If you can alter a clone's dna to not develop a frontal lobe and consiousness, why not alter the clone to not develop anything but the desired organ?
Supplies!

Don't worry sir, we still have a 0.6 you left in storage. Just keep that liver, heart and colon healthy and you'll be fine

Totally new body.
But I prefer cybernetics... replace weak fleshy parts with beautiful steel...
sorry, I'm doing it again, aren't I?
This is definitely the better option but the other seems more likely to happen.
Direct Conscience Transfers or Cybernetics?
'Cos we already have some pretty good cybernetics... hehehe...
The Conscience transfers. Cybernetics will advance pretty far but it will be a while till they are available for widespread use.

I don't think the situation would end well. So I'm gonna have to say no. Its a bad idea.

It's a matter of doing it correctly, I believe staying away from Genetic/Eugenic technology is a mistake as it can correct a lot of problems, and do a lot of good, despite the potential for it to go wrong. One of America's great weaknesses has been our Technophobia, it seems 90% of the stuff on technological development you see out there even in fiction is cautionary, or a vague retelling of "Frakenstein".

Also with sick organs and stuff people are going to want transplants. If they can't get them legally, they will consider other means. Tons of horror stories and urban legends about it, but the bottom line is that there is a black market for organs out there. Either that will continue and benefit only the rich, or we can find a more "humane" way of dealing with it and benefit everyone.

So, spend millions on cloning people while to save some useless people, while other useless people are running around with their organs? Lets take organs from criminals. (just the ones that have good organs)

Yeah... Direct Conscience Transfers... Imperial Technology at its Finest.
Ok, not its finest, but it's still one of the better things they made...

It's unethical no matter how you alter them. Hell, intentionally degrading DNA,be it human or anyone else's is not too ethical in itself.

Why won't we just clone organs outside of body? Sure,it's not as efficent, but it's not as Squicky as well.
I agree with this.

Altering dna to remove sentience does not make them animals, it makes them people you fucked with.
now that I disagree with. I think that a human is only a human if it can think independent thoughts

Excellent idea. There's no need whatsoever to clone the entire organism, either. As everybody else has been saying.
No doubt the religio-nuts are in an uproar about the whole thing.

I would pose that it is probably a huge waste of time to grow a full scale body, and faster progress will more likely be achieved by growing individual tissues or organs ex vivo.

I <3 he Escapist community. Only here would people agree with this, thank you for being less narrowminded that everybody at my college.

OT: Its fine, but it seems a little over the top, why not just make the organs themselves? cant they do that now... and if that fails then grow them on the back of a mouse!
I was told that's it's actually easier to clone a human than to grow an individual organ

For, in theory. I am all for the advancement of science and medicine, as long as these new humans don't, you know...

Erm, I'm pretty sure that you can't remove an organisms conscious thought processes just by altering its DNA. Hell, you need to find where consciousness and self-awareness actually coes from.

But in all honesty, it would be much simpler and easier to just clone back-up organs and\or bone marrow. Creating a body without a brain conveniently neglects the fact that a brain and brain stem is necessary to maintain bodily systems, i.e. heartbeat and breathing.

On paper, it sounds pretty good, but there's always gonna be some ramifications to an idea like this.

Sorry, I watched the 6th Day last night...

I'd prefer cybernetics because "conscience transfer" doesn't really work. Watch the Sixth Day, basically, it's a copy. A person with your exact memories and personality would exist but you, the real you, would still be dead. The copy would not feel the difference but I, the original, would, so why would I want that?
Give me cybernetic replacements instead, I want me to survive, not somebody else with the same memories.
