I'd side with England. We may have a small military, but it's training is one of the best in the world, and we do have (some) of the best equipment in the world. We'd give the US a run for their money and eventually, depending on whether or not the US uses it's numerical superiority we'll probably end up beaten.

It's best not to rile us up. Especially when our tea and biscuits are stake!

[Edit]

Having said that, I completely forgot about the defence cuts the Government (see: assholes) made. Yeah, we're definitely fucked. Still...

"I say...those rotters mean to kill us? tally ho!"
I'm guessing your not familiar the U.S Marine Corps, I would fear for the devil himself if he picked a fight with one of them.
Meh, I'm not going argue as to which [country] has the better forces because I'm very much biased and have a great deal of pride in my country's military heritage, achievements and so on.

However, I will giggle at your remark.

Being Scottish (England =/= Britain) I'd most likely invite Canada down the pub and wait for the whole thing to cool down. As for the fight, we could call it Battle of the Beards.

Hooray for semantics!

Although If I weren't being so needlessly picky, I'd side with England. Your attitude towards sport is annoying, but you guys are alright.
I like this idea. As a Canadian I highly doubt we would go to war with either side and would prefer to just do our own thing.

If it were up to the government, assuming Harper is still there after the election, we'd probably end up siding with the Americans due to proximity and for our own welfare since it'd be a lot easier to get US support from a British attack than British support from a US attack.

...who do you think your country would side with? Assuming both countries are equally at fault for the cause of the war.

This is a question that actually kinda plagues me as a Canadian. We're kinda naturally obligated to side with England because we're still under their power, but we're also right next to the United States and we rely on each other way more than we rely on England. And I also know that Canada wouldn't just sit there neutral, because that'd just piss off both of them.

edit: added another option to the poll
I'm tired of seeing the Queen on my coin when she hasn't really done anything other than pay an occasional visit. I side with the states simply because they will crush any opposition, especially an island nation.

I'll redirect any bombs headed for Dunsfold Aerodrome to whatever airfield TGUS is stationed in. Standing orders are that Top Gear is to remain un bombed and able to function as they currently are.
The top gear team remains dispersed around the country to prevent any such attack. If you want england, you have to nuke top gear. And then you will be in for a world of shit [sub][sub][sub][sub]television[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]
anyways, i will of course be siding with england, from the secret moonbase

Would like to remind you that this isn't a question asking "What would you do," so much as a question "What do you think your COUNTRY would do".

ie: What do you assume your country would do in a situation like this given their history, relations, and proximity with both nations?

Being American I'd just go limp whenever any discussion or incident of this "war" war came near me.

Remaining neutral in the most amusing way I can think of.

Since I am English and I live in England I would support England. However that said I think we would lose bad, we may have better trained forces but the US military just has a ridiculous amount of manpower and resources.

I'm English. Truth be told I am surprised to see more people say they would stick with us over America. But then again, I guess where else would the world get self depreciating humour, Green Wing and Top Gear?

Eh, being American, and ex-military, I'd side with the US, but...how the hell would a war between two of the strongest allies on the planet start, anyway!? Did the UK suddenly realize how much they miss us as a bunch of colonies? Did one (or both) countries undergo a radical regime change? Did Obama make one to many "your mama" jokes?

Eh, regardless, depending on what other countries sided with whom, the US would still have one hell of an advantage. We have the best Navy on the planet, by a large margin, and against an island nation, that's pretty damn game winning. Assuming that it isn't just going to be a bunch of nukes flying....or that China won't just swoop in and decimate all parties involved after they've been weakened a bit. Really a lose lose situation.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to start learning Mandarin to appease our new overlords.

I mean, we invented the atomic bomb, with some scientists thinking it could ignite the earth's atmosphere, and we said, "Meh, lets go ahead and do it."

So yea, we got this war thing pretty figured out. As for EU rising as one and winning, the logistical nightmare that would raise would seriously undermine its effectiveness. I mean, what language do you give the orders in? Whose orders do you follow, your own officers, or a foreign officer of higher rank?
-You got war figured out with friendly-fire and you lost Vietnam and the Cold War shamble and the problems in Cuba and now Afghanistan/Iraq. War can't be figured out as war never stays the same. There are just 'general' rules in a war. Read 'The art of War'.

I'm English and I say America would completely crush us.

We have some very good pilots and some very good seamen. But America have got several times more people, a lot more money, and better techology. Not to mention over the last few years our defense budget has been cut a lot and they've probably got just as good pilots/seamen as well.

We wouldn't stand a chance.

EDIT: I know it's not the point of the topic, but whatever. Whoever would side with us would lose.

Kind of off topic but as an American I've never really understood the high esteem Canadians place in Britain. Sure I suppose you're still part of a semi-integrated government and you have a shared history and culture. But all of that you share or else could share with the United States as well. And it's not as if the British ever treated you as equals. After all they never allowed Canadians into the UK parliament to make the real decisions with the big boys. Nor would they ever as Canadian MPs would probably represent a majority. If Canada joined the US on the other hand you'd all have representation in Congress on day one.

I think that if push came to shove the leaders of Canada would (or at least should) realize that their country's destiny is inextricably tied to the US and would join with us. Of course the most likely response to such a conflict would be neutrality.

I'll side with the nation that has the largest air force in the world, the infrastructure to put those planes over any patch of dirt on this planet within 24 hours, men and women capable of getting them there, and the ordinace to level whatever the fuck is underneath those planes.

In short, sorry England, you're the 51st state. We'll leave Top Gear alone, though.
Quoted for truth.

With the way the UK is, they would never try to wage a war against the US because of the simple fact that they rely on America for large scale engagements. And for a similar reason, America would never attack the UK b/c whenever we go to war, we tend to bring them along so we can call ourselves a Coalition or the Allies.

In the end, we go hand in hand. Like two somewhat disfunctional brothers.
You bring us brits along so you have something to shoot at :S
No one twisted your arm to come along. You guys started that whole "Special Relationship" thing and we were all like "Why not?"

I'm sorry, I'm usually quite good at this kind of thing but in this case I have to ask: are you joking or do you genuinely believe that is how Canada works?

I don't mean to be rude if this is what you think but I also don't want to waste time correcting a joke.
