Poll: If games cost $69.99 next gen?

I'll just wait for a Steam sale. There's no way I'll buy a new PC game for more than $50 (Which I would only do if I'm really excited about that game), unless I want the collector's edition of that game (Which has only happened twice in my life).

I really wish more people would do this, so that we can get our games at a fair price on release day.

Of course. Same as everyone else on this board, despite protestations. The problem is, you're asking the wrong question. The real question is, how MANY games. I expect that I'll drop 1-2 of my yearly limit. Instead of 6 awesome games, I'll get 4.

I don't usually buy games right off the bat, I usually wait a bit, and the price tends to dwindle, I'm not really compelled to constantly be up to date with the latest and greatest

I wouldn't buy as many, and I wouldn't buy-on-release unless I really cared about the studio, but I'd still buy games at a higher price point. I'll never buy used, so it'd hit me quite hard, but I wouldn't complain about the injustice of it all.

I buy DVDs for £12,99 that entertain me for two hours.
Most games entertain me for 24 hours minimum.

Even at £40,00 it's not a bad deal comparatively.

Games drop in price so quickly now and there are SO many of them to chose from that unless I MUST HAVE IT NOWZ! (maybe once a year), I don't ever buy at full price. So they can do what they want with the price for I will just continue waiting to buy the game until it gets to a price that I find reasonable.

So I suppose "Other" would be my choice since I wouldn't say Yes or No because I don't care. I also don't buy used games all that often so that wouldn't matter and I don't think we need to overthrow the gaming government because the prices of our games have gone up

Exactly how I feel. I almost never buy anything for maximum price.

I get it when I want it and usually by then its 20-30 bucks tops.

It's not just games that cost more here, it's pretty much everything. Electronics and media just get the spotlight because it has the highest margin. I'm not saying it balances out, but the price difference shouldn't be as much as it is, even considering the wage differences.

OT: I'm assuming you mean "What if prices go up?". In that case, unless quality goes up (not talking about graphics), then I'm switching to PC or just doing the 5-year lag option.

same goes for some high end adobe software. it would literally be cheaper for me to fly to the U.S than to buy it in a store here, NVM the fact that i could instead fly to indonesia for a shit load less and buy a pirated version... or you know just download one.

They'll probably try pulling this off. I mean, if you can charge more as a standard and get away with it why wouldn't you. They do it now with certain AAA games for Christs sake (Pretty much every CoD game for instance is £5 more than normal at launch. why? Just because)

Hopefully gamers will actually show that there are certain lines you can't cross, who knows. There's no way this could happen with PC that's for sure.

I'll keep buying the majority of games used*, and pick up new ones from trusted companies as my funds allow.

*from reputable eBay sellers and local shops, but not Gamestop. Never Gamestop.

I haven't bought a new AAA game in 5 years, and a shift up in price will just mean that trend will continue. I appreciate that prices aren't as outrageous here as elsewhere, and that maybe they are low compared to other times but I can't bet $60 on hoping that a new game isn't a complete pile of ass when that could easily go toward multiple used titles or multiple indie titles. I guess as a PC gamer for the most part I just don't want to part with that much money at once on something I'm guaranteed to be unable to return barring some really limited circumstances. As for console, I don't plan on buying any of the new ones so the price jump there isn't an issue for me.

I can wait for prices to go down, and if the industry makes moves to make that not a viable option then I can definitely just refocus to continue supporting indie titles.

No need to add that at all, not unless you choose to add it. Why bother paying for it if you dont want too? Most of the time a good game is still a perfectly decent experience without it, there are exceptions of course but most of the time you miss almost nothing. Its only a problem when people have some kind of 100% collection impulse and feel they need all the pokemons or something.

You claim its a scam, sure it could be considered so and just like most scams it only works when people willingly step into it.

A day one, high profile PS3 game can cost $110.00 at some retailers here. And yes, our dollar is worth about the same as the US dollar.

It doesn't cost 40% more to get the games here, so you think that people should be charged based on how much they earn and can afford? Sort of like a "From each according to his ability" to pay?

OT: If games went down to $70 I'd be buying more of them, but if you meant went up by AU$20 then I'd only buy them if I really wanted it on Day 1. We go much further past $100 for a standard version and they'll be costing more then my half of the weeks rent.

If what I read is true in there it says a Commmodore SS (Australian made car) is sold as the Pontiac G8 GT for $15,000 less than here. That doesn't even make sense!

I have paid RRP for a game twice in the last few years (Borderlands 2 and Ratchet & Clank Collection, if you're wondering) because, ever since I bought Guitar Hero 5 on release and finished it on expert in a day, I realised there are very few games come out that are worth the full price.

I can always find other games/activities to bide my time while I wait for prices to drop.
