I can't even remember the last time I bought a game for full price so if the price were to rise to $70 that wouldn't chnage. I always just wait for a used copy because it's not like I'm hurting for games to play. There are hundreds of games (PC) that I've missed over the years so I just wait for the price to come down.

I'd rather that than having the last $10 sucked out of my pocket through various subscription services, DLC additions, sharing of personal info for marketing purposes, lack of innovation due to having to play it safe for every title, and overall getting a shittier product with more intrusive marketing measures attached.

Games are getting more expensive to create, and as there's no such thing as "free" on the market, the cost will be paid one way or the other. Better the old ordinary way.

I don't understand why some games are the same price digital as they are as retail? The middle man is taken out (retailers make between $10-$20 per disc) and there's no shipping or a pretty box to make. Wouldn't lowering the price of games to $40 digitally switch more people to downloading instead of buying retail? Wouldn't it also make buying used games almost moot? Slightly cutting out the middle man would also cut down on administrative duties/costs. Also, more money would theoretically get to the developer. I keep hearing that Sony and Microsoft want digital distribution as the way of the future, but they're not making the most obvious move. Anybody know the main reason they don't do this? Hard to justify to shareholders, previous deals with retailers preventing moves like this, or other bullshit? Enlighten me, please.

Only if the DLC is included, otherwise that's a bit steep.

Considering the exorbitant cost of games in Australia, $69.99 would be a marked improvement.

I do. I recently picked up Dark Souls for $70 in fact. Not sure why its still so expensive, possibly because of the PTD edition.
It sucks that we have to pay a lot, but if you can't afford it then you probably have better things to do then playing games. $70 will not ruin your life and its not as if you need to buy a new game every few days. As a luxury developers should be entitled to charge whatever they like.

"mr. steamy, will watch dogs be on you?"
*he nods and i throw my 'team PlayStation' pin under the couch and fallow him to the magical land of low prices*
the end. what a magical tale.

honestly though, i don't really care. prefer pc gaming, i'll still be cling to my ps3 but i highly doubt i'll upgrade to 4.

Steam.

So I fail to understand your pricing models.
Well Steam isnt that cheap really most games I can buy cheaper elsewhere than Steam on release sure they have good sales but so do other places and in many cases better than Steam as well it pays to shop around.

As for if all games were 69.99 next gen well thats just over the standard price here at the moment and some games push for over that and then some (if for some crazy reason you want to pay 20 pounds extra for a digital copy from the ripoff PSN and Xbox live store).

I remember games from the SNES generation costing 59.99 GBP in some cases here so about 90 USD which continued and even went higher in a couple of cases with the N64, damn cartridges were expensive.

I rarely buy games new so assuming they continue to drop off in price as quickly as most of them do now higher initial pricing wont affect me. But lets say games stayed at 69.99 forever in that case I would just go back to my buying habits of the SNES era and just get 2, 3 or 4 games a year. It would deter me from taking a chance on a game but it wouldnt stop me buying one I really want.

People have been trained by the standard 39.99 GBP price around here for so long that if they tried to raise that most would fail imo (unless you are Call of Duty it seems).

hahahaaha! Another Australian here, if prices were like that down here on first day of release just about anyone who plays video games would cream their pants then proceed to cream the entire bloody room (including the ceiling).

What'd you mean?

Mate, in Australia, new games are in the three digits. Real fun.

That is why I love Steam.

I'm not buying at that price now, and I like in Australia where you're expected to pay about twice the price. eBay and used all the way.

I would probably buy games at full price a lot less and just stick to either used games or wait until they drop in price. $60 is the absolute limit of what I'm willing to pay for a game unless I'm buying a special edition or something of that sort.

This speculation of increased game prices certainly makes me feel sympathy for Australian gamers.

If prices rose that high I might just have to *ahem* go... sailing. So to speak. On the high seas.

Nope. Everything else I get when it's rock bottom cheap, or on Steam Sale, which is basically the same.

In the past 6 or so years, I think I've picked up a total of TWO games on release. Duke Nukem and Dead Island. Both were worth it. No sarcasm.

I don't even buy at the prices now. Haven't even had a new console game in quite a while, especially from nintendo.

If that is what the price of next-gen titles are going to be, then I'm sticking with Steam and probably branching out to other online services.

Voted "R3v01uti0n!!!!," because it was the closest option to "start buying more indie games and watch the AAA industry go into another crash." Because seriously, they were reaming us at $50 a pop. $60 each was worse, adding DLC was just highway robbery. If they go $70 and still do DLC (which would happen -- there's no way the majors will give up on paid DLC just because of a price hike), I'll sit back and laugh as they go out of business, while my money goes to bedroom coders who actually treat their customers right.
guess what the best part is, games have cost $69.99+tax in Canada for God knows how long! they've only recently dropped to a reasonable price of $59.99.

I could care less. Games are still amazing entertainment value, and plus I am an adult with a big boy job.

I pick yes, because I assume those extra $10 are to cover the cost of all the extra content we're getting, as well as pirates, because how else would they release games without all that nasty, old DRM of yesteryear? Now, if they're just raising the price because "roflroflrofl, peepz want t3h gaemz!" and don't actually plan on including $10 of worth to the product, I probably wouldn't pay it for very long... I've got plenty of games with many hours of content that I'd probably rather play more anyway...
