The answer is (and I suspect will be for quite sometime) STEAM SALE!!!

Unless it is a really good game I just wait for the inevitable Steam sale and get it then, and considering the current AAA crop isn't really to my taste I don't mind the wait.

Nope, Having a PC and being by bundles 5-10 games with only 5 dollars or less, made me a cheap-ass gamer.

If what I read is true in there it says a Commmodore SS (Australian made car) is sold as the Pontiac G8 GT for $15,000 less than here. That doesn't even make sense!

A day one, high profile PS3 game can cost $110.00 at some retailers here. And yes, our dollar is worth about the same as the US dollar.

So yeah, personally I wouldn't be all that fussed. Besides, between Steam sales, GreenManGaming and other such sellers, I rarely pay full price these days.

Go to JB Hifi; relative to everywhere else they're cheap as fuck. The new Tomb Raider only costs $69 there. Bioshock Infinite is $79, etc.

Pretty sure I've made this suggestion before in retrospect.

The thing is it is mostly on the government with all their ridiculous taxes on cars that most other countries don't have. I really hope this changes in the near future because I love BMW's and want to own a decent one in the future.

Then again, if a game comes along that I happen to really, really like, I have no issues buying it several times.

I bought Dark Souls six times. Three for me, three as presents. And, behold, the world got a little bit better.

I'd still buy games if the prices go up again, but less than I used to.

Not a chance. My only console is a PS3, I have bought only one game for that for full price. The others are either PS+/PSN or Platinum (or whatever its called now) games.

Mostly I PC game, I passed up a few games last year because they decided to breach £30 and go for 35, or even 40. This year/gen will be the same for me. I'll pay no more than $50 for a brand new game, and with such a large indie scene delivering games I actually want to play, more often than not for $20 or less (alpha funding - best idea ever imo), rather than games the big publishers try to tell me I want, the need to waste big bucks on inferior gameplay is non-existent.

Add in to that Steam sales, Amazon, GMG coupons, GOG.com and Desura, publishers over charging for DLC, macro transactions and the rest to recover their over inflated marketing budgets can go swivel.

I'd pay the $70 for a new game. It's been $60 for a console game since 2005. Prices go up.

But! This is going to be a very odd generation. People (including me) are hooking up all sorts of devices to their TV sets. Android games they are incidentally downloading to phone are making it to tablets that can be hooked up to the TV and played like a console.

STEAM and sellers like it (Gamestop is getting into the game) keep having crazy sales. My best was paying $1.27 (odd figure) for Velvet Assassin which I can play on my desktop using a 360 controller. Not a bad game, but if it were, what the heck. That is a soda or Snickers bar.

That is the sort of world in which the PS4 is going to have to sell its games. It is going to be interesting.

I mostly play on PC as it is, and will probably stick there. We already get games for cheaper than the release prices. I even preordered the new Tomb Raider for about $33. I may still buy a console game here or there at full price on release (already do), but for most, I'll probably get used after a while.

Well I did 20 years ago so it wouldn't be something new. But I don't think it would be warranted because I don't think that such a large budget should go to marketing and eye-bleeding graphics.

I would probably wait for a sale or something. I have enough backlog to work through. I rarely buy a game when it comes out anymore. The market is super-saturated already.

I tend to buy games well after the price drop anyway, but I would like to hearken back to the old inflation argument. In 1995, your average new RPG on the SNES would run you $50 (Chrono Trigger, on the other hand, cost $80)... now, according to the inflation calculator, "What cost $50 in 1995 would cost $74.41 in 2012."
In other words, prices have come down while production costs have skyrocketed. They still make money hand over fist thanks to the exploded size of their markets, but I'd still call $70 a fair price for quality games (which, I admit, are still few and far between... as per Sturgeon's ever-present law).

I haven't bought a new game in years, actually. I'm fine with the price increase, since it'll mean all the PS3 games I want to play will get a lot cheaper.

I can buy games at $70. I thought it was a bummer when they went from $50 to $60 but I still bought them. Same thing now, except I have quite a bit more disposable income than I did at the last price hike.

Aren't the next generation of consoles going to have a registration feature to prevent games from ever being played except on the registering player's specific, individual console? Each time you boot the game, your XBox/PS4 will query a server to make sure your PS4 is the one that's authorized to play that particular disc. If not, the game won't play.

That could completely eliminate used games (it could also, incidentally, prevent anyone without Internet access from playing consoles, period). Our choices would be to pay full price or wait for the price to go down. No more trading, no more lending to friends, no more saving money by buying used games.

I live in Canada, most of the new AAA releases are about that price anyway. This is why I am mostly a PC gamer, because my average PC game is between 15-50$ and even less thanks to Steam and GoG.

I will be a cheap fucker and revert to buying all my games during Steam Sales. I don't care. Those bastards already sell sliced up games with on-disc DLC that should have been in at release. Fuck 'em.

Honestly, I don't remember the last time I paid more than ?20 for a game. (Portal 2, maybe). I almost exclusively buy fairly old games from e-bay.

I just never need to play a game enough that I can't wait a few months.

If games suddenly became worth 70$ then I would buy them.

But if games cost $69.69 that would be a whole different story.

This gen, or last gen depending on how many of you have PS4's preordered, games got more expensive and had less content (In general) As of now I only buy games I feel are worth the money, and I've only payed full price for 11 games this whole generation(And only 8 were worth it). Which is down from buying pretty much all my games at full price last generation. Finding enough games worth the price to justify buying a new console probably won't happen if the price goes up.

Especially if all this bullshit about micro transactions, multyplayer and GREY! comes to be. I'm not looking forward to the next gen.
