It's the crappy end, right?

So, screw it!

Smoke, drink, play video games as the fake foods you shove down your neck clogs your heart and poisons your blood.

Yay.

Unless it makes me age quicker, then I'll keep playing. I would die a happy man if I died before being so old I had to go back to diapers.

Well judging how people smoke, drink, and do drugs knowing the side effects...

I'd be fine. It's worth it.

No, but I'd have to wonder why. Odds are it's not video games, but computers, electronics or something related in general.

To not use ALL electronics around me would be a tough thing to do.

Yes, I would continue playing, for there is no benefit only loss here in this equation.
However, if I gained 4 hours for every 1 hour I didn't play video games, I would never play video games again, and live forever. In one hand I'm immortal, in the other I would live to be roughly 40, which is a pretty fair life.

I wouldn't. I mean, playing game is fun, yes, but it's hardly worth dying for, even if it's about as slowly as a chain smoker.

My game time is pretty damn short so yes I would keep playing them.

I like how every 3rd post in this thread has been about how terrible our lives are outside of videogames, so I propose an idea. We all take a shot of tequila, drink a beer (whatever measurement you'd like, pint for me.), put on our favourite game, play it until 6:16pm then all commit suicide.

Hows about it guys I'm in if you are ;)

I'd light a smoke and have another drink and then fire up some more Thief fan missions and get busy stealing everything that ain't nailed down.
But drinking and smoking can cause you to die *a certain* way (lung /liver disease, cancer etc...) so there's more reason to not over-indulge in those when you're younger.

I'm starting to think if this were true then I'd *start* playing games in my later years. As I currently plan to start drinking heavily when I'm over 75.
True though drinking and smoking only increase one's chance of catching something... The fact that we know flat out what this does... eh... makes me like you. I plan on doing various drugs when I hit that age.

I can't say knowing that ratio I'd bother to play games in youth, honestly. It makes it just as risky to actually do in the games to do in real life.

I'd put my gaming on hold in order to pursue my writing career. Once I had a few best-sellers under my belt, well, then I'd indulge.

No. There's far more to my life than video games. Video games are a nice bonus and a source of entertainment, but I have a family, a career and an interest in non-video game activities. If I knew for a fact that it would kill me, I'd stop play video games at the drop of a hat.

The first thing that comes to mind is, what's killing me? Hours of sitting on my butt? Maybe I could start playing motion-oriented games. We always suspected oversized CRTs but now we have oversized LCDs.

The other thing I've noticed is that longevity is an inexact science. The old people I'd want to be like are the ones who smoked, ate and drank to their hearts' content, and thrived off happiness and enjoying life.

That said, I'm pretty sure that gaming is prolonging mine.[footnote]If my phone is giving me cancer, maybe it'll all balance out.[/footnote]

Yeah no. At least not as much as I do now. Perhaps a couple of hours every week. This is also how I deal with the fact that smoking is trying to kill me.

Enjoy but not too much.

Human beings are barely meant to live past 40. Around 50 is when your body slowly starts to deteriorate while you're still using it. I'm sorry if arthritis, Alzheimer's, cataracts, wrinkles, osteoporosis, liver spots, balding, hearing impairment, incontinence, erectile dysfunction, retirement, any other late onset illnesses, watching my friends and family pass away, and the inability to comprehend modern technology don't sound appealing to me. If I can avoid a large chunk of that by doing what I love most, then this is a win/win situation.

The rest of you can have fun with your senior discounts at drug stores and movie theaters.

No. I've been looking for a reason to spend less time playing games for a while but that'd have to be the one that'd break me out of it. It's not that I don't like games. I just realize that all I do is work and game. It leaves little time for a social life and I find myself less and less enthused to actually move and be active like I used to.
