When you follow your own rules. That, is decent moderation. The escapist mods however, most of the time, do not, and are far to opinionated on when the rules apply, and apparently being in the publishers club or working for the escapist gets you a free pass to say and do what you want. And to be fair, that comment was an insert considering who most sites basically have no mod system beyond one guy with a keyboard and an attitude problem, so yes, The Escapist has got a great system of moderation comparitively. All I am saying is, if you are going to impose rules RE: banning and reporting, then you need to enforce them where they occur whenever they occur without fail rather than letting shit slide because of your own personal bias.
I'm in the Pub Club and they watch what I say pretty fiercely. Can you give any specific examples of Posters, any Posters, getting away to say and do what they want?

I don't wish to come off as confrontational D:, but I remember the sour poster who had such a hang up against "Forum Celebrities" but he/she just ranted, and when someone else asked for examples he/she got nasty and spoke in generalities. I don't recall who it was but witnessing the whole exchange left a bad taste in my mouth.
I'm not talking about forum celebs, Arguably a couple of people in the banned list where in fact, forum celebrities. No, I mean once you stat giving the escapist money, the mods look the other way to a lot of stuff. Just because YOU are responsible and adhere to the rules does not mean everyone does likewise. I can't name anyone specific, but the number of times someone has come out with something that was either directly insulting or offensive in a wider context and gotten away with it because they were in pub club (Although only ever on R and P, that is the only vague example I can give, sorry, I haven't been active recently and therefore can't link anything recent) is staggering. And selective moderation is something that tends to pop up a lot between randomers, in what I would imagine is either laziness or MOD bias.
Okay, first of all OF COURSE staff have special exceptions made. If we were banned from the site, how would it be run? It is our job to work here, and therefore it would be logically impossible to do said job and ban ourselves at the same time.

Note: That doesn't mean that we don't make it an in house policy to strictly adhere to forum rules ourselves. We do try our best to follow every rule. Additionally, in the case of staff or content providers, conduct problems are addressed in ways that are not visible on the forums themselves.

Second point, we don't make exceptions for publisher's club members. If there's a post that you feel deserves more attention then you need to make someone aware. Don't assume that because something has gone unnoticed that we're consenting to it. The moderators are volunteers, and they simply can't be everywhere at once.

Let us reflect upon who put them there when some of them never deserved it.
Ah yes, the mods. Can we not just have robot mods who have to stick directly to the terms of discussion or whatever? Nine times out of ten, reporting does nothing because the Mod fins it funny or something. There are plenty of people who've been banned for minor stuff whilst talking to people who were being far worse. Whilst the moderation on this site is probably better than any other site like this, it's still not great.
Well, I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt. Susan attacked people for defending ME, and that includes the friendliest user in the whole Escapist, Caramel Frappe. One or two of 'em got banned from that, and I got both punished and called a dick for saying the site was ugly. I'm not defending these people.

If you don't mind me asking, what happened with Hubilub and all them? I joined when they were still active, and then suddenly they were gone
It's a bit of a long story. Essentially, after Teddy's banning they decided to migrate from The Escapist and make their own forum. After that they slowly got banned from here for a variety of reasons, usually to do with either mod sass or for trolling the forums under the idea that since they had their own forum they didn't care what happened to their accounts on this one.

If it helps, I can name over 100 accounts that are Pubclub and have a ban level higher then 2 currently. :)

I feel really old now, having watched people rise to forum fame and then get banned (Hi Max!) over and over, and seeing most of the people mentioned here at one time or the other, and sometimes laughing at their shenanigans coughcoughzeelcough.
But I can't say I have any fond memories of them, really, because I never had an urge to interact with them. Actually, I seem to be kind of...if not an introvert then at least someone who's not into making friends here. Which is weird, 'cause I love people, especially IRL.
However, that's getting off-topic, so I'll quit while I'm ahead. I do get warnings now and then, wouldn't wanna end up in this thread.

Unless the report button does not work, I believe there have been times I have reported without commenting on a post and nothing has been done. As for staff members, Is this some form of "Who watches the watcher?" situation, where there is no internal moderation whatsoever? Not neccesarily for Mods, but for contributers, the video makers and article writers and such?

That fantastic little emotional mini series taught me to cool off the kindness a bit. Some people might take it the wrong way. T^T

Wait, porn? And I missed that? D: Not fair. >~>

Perhaps you were incorrect about the posts you reported being in violation of our Code of Conduct. In the future, you're always welcome to post in the moderation team user group if you have questions about moderation.

As to "who watches The Watchmen?", if you'll review my previous comment you'll see that we deal with it internally. There's no reason for us to post a forum comment to someone sitting in a desk next to us. Usually I or Susan will lean over and go "Hey you jerk, stop breaking forum rules!" and the post in question will be updated.

I mostly lurk now-a-days. Saw a poster get a warning the other day for using the red and black mod notification.

*looks away and whistles*

Luckily, I've never done that.

Anyways. I was searching for the Ban Game the other day and was I was like, "WTF!? Shit must've really gotten out of hand." Since it was your game... What Happened? I loved that game ;_________;

Favorite Comment: (my old name was XcrossX, and I was either commenting to you or Scde2)

mParadox: They can't BAN me!
Me: But you can be suspended for a really long time. (I think you'd just came off a suspension.)

I think I remember you. Yeeees, that avatar. Unmistakeable! Unless I'm thinking of someone else, I apologize in advance for that.

And the Ban Game? It isn't locked or anything. Nope. It's disappeared. Like any good old fashioned threads, it's still there. Just beyond the radar.

I remember Mortai. I was the guy he was debating when he got banned. That was a moment that shook a lot of people's worlds it seems. Can't say I'll personally miss him though. That debate is still fresh in my memory.
Was it that debate that was more of a three way thing involving yourself, Mortai and.....Kerplunk if I recall correctly? Assuming we're talking about the same thing, it was an interesting thread alright until Mortai when whining to the mod group about being insulted while "forgetting" that he was calling people idiots, sexists and liars in the same thread.
It was me debating ResonanceSD, then Mortai decided to get involved after that was basically settled by trying to pick at my earlier quotes in the thread.

He proceeded to make personal attacks and a paltry attempt at debating. All while reporting me for anything that he found offensive. I think he got banned for his overuse/misuse of the 'report' button. I don't know for sure but it was far from a graceful ban and wasn't anyone's fault but his own. There's one thing a select few forum members on this site tend to do and its act majorly pompous when they don't need to.

Yeah that's the thread I was thinking of, was just combining it in my mind with a different thread in which he was doing the exact same thing.

One of them in particular really disliked me I believe, but I hold no grudge. He was seemingly nice to people he befriended, but to me .. it was sort of harsh lol. I don't exactly remember his name but it had Raptor in it and the Avatar was of a disturbed but smiling guy. If I actually saw him on again or on another site, I wouldn't mind saying hello and catch up if possible.
Pararaptor [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Pararaptor]? It's possible he's on Mellow Leprechauns with Furburt and Hubilub, but I wouldn't know for sure.

...shit, this thread makes me feel old and miserable.
Pararaptor is banned? Shit I actually liked that guy a bit.

Fucking hell so many old names. I am going through some sad nostalgia.

So many sent to the basement. So many.

Also I have not seen the Escapist greeting in AGES. "Welcome to the Escapist. Stay out of the Basement."

Where has that gone?

Do you spend so much time in the Forum Games that you didn't lurk out to notice this thread? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.395758-Whats-the-community-like-here?page=1] It spawned the recent thread about the Escapist's Basement. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.395819-The-Escapist-Basement]

Much of my BEST work was done in the Basement Thread. Read it to the last page--it was a BLAST!

I remember seeing you call Kross a troll in one of his joke threads (The red button or something related, I think. It's way too late and I'm waaaayyyyyy too tired to bother to look it up). I figured that since it was a Kross joke thread and you--the Escapist Community Manager--were calling the Escapist Server Administrator--rather than a Poster--by the "T" word it fell within unwritten guideline acceptability.

Apparently not everyone feels so understanding or dismissive so...

[footnote]So...what? Darn right I loved The Sound of Music! I happen to be secure with my masculinity, thank you all very much![/footnote]

Very well, Nasrin: You have been found guilty of having once violated the Escapist Forum Guidelines one or two years ago. You must redeem yourself according Classic Escapist Tradition!!!

Monsters girls? o_O How odd. <.<

I should do a poll! If people like me being suave and sexeh. :D The alternative is being TDR. Tall, dark and handsome. It also means alot of weird ass brooding about pancakes and waffles.
