A murderer shouldn't learn his mistakes in prison. Prison will just make them angrier, and they might get out and kill again. I say a quick shot to kill them. Torture would make you a worse person. If they so easily killed someone, then they should learn what it is like to be on the other end of the gun. Justice is justice. Killing someone shortened the person's own life. You reap what you sow.

EDIT: To all saying "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind", I say I would rather everyone be blind if it means more justice and less crime.

I would not kill him, I would let the police find him.

will that work?

I have two moral scenarios that I was wondering about what you would do. This is not the normal train tracks scenario, but is different.

1)
Someone in your family has been murdered. You are brought into a room where the killer is tied up, and a handgun is given to you. If you shoot him, there will be no repercussions for you. The only repercussions will be the death of that person, and the sorrow of people who may care about them.

2)
The same scenario, except now, the person murdered somebody you have never met. Still, no repercussions to you, only their death and the sadness of their loved ones will result.

Would you pull the trigger in either of these scenarios?

I would in both.

note-

When I say "murdered", I mean in cold blood with no reason behind it.

It's justice, and why force someone else to do it who may be affected by it? I could do it for them and not be affected. I'm one of those people who believe a leader shouldn't order someone to do something they themselves couldn't do.

First case, no but I would keep them there for the rest of their lives and beat them with the pistol whenever I felt like it, which would probably be a lot.

2nd, I might give them a bit of a kicking but then I'd hand them over to the cops.

Both yes.

Then the person cannot kill again, and is therefore unable to have the chance to kill me.

Also for the experience.

I said also for the experience!
Dammit.

No, he may be suffering from an illness, suffered a moment of insanity, etc.
I would also like to add that life in prison is a terrible fate itself.

sure, i've always wanted to kill somebody, but going to jail is lame so it would provide an excellent opportunity to do it with no adverse effects to myself.

No I wouldn't kill him in that scenario, I wouldn't want him fed to me like that. If he's already caught there's no need to kill him. If he was still running free however I'd dedicate my life to hunting down and killing him myself.

I would bring them to justice an do my best to be sure they were convicted and punished by the state. It's dishonorable to kill an incapacitated prisoner and more so to put myself above the law. Though they're guilty, they have a right to a fair trial.

1 yes, 2 no.

If he killed someone I care about, I would off him in a heartbeat with no hesitation.

If he killed a random person, I have no reason to kill him; no anger toward him. Who knows, there could've been some strange situation where the person deserved to be killed. Plus, that's a lot of guilt I don't want to deal with. Not worth it.

I know I would stand there for like 10 minutes before I pull the trigger on both, I don't think I have the kind of heart to do that and not feel a little bit bad, but in the end I would do it.

That's not something I intended as an option when I made this thread, but considering the sheer number of people who've responded as such I suppose my intended hypothetical failed a long time ago haha.

1) I would kill them.
2) There's a small chance that I wouldn't kill them.

The judicial system is a bunch of bullshit, I believe in an eye for an eye.
