Generally I only buy games that have replay value. I mean If you cant replay them, then what's to stop you from just renting them and saving 52 bucks? I only buy games with limited single player replayability if they either have a damn good multiplayer (COD4) or I really really like them (the Halo series).
Off topic: Can you believe the prices for game rentals these days?!!! I know it's still a lot cheeper then actually buying them, but 8 bucks for 5 days?!!! WTF?!!!!

As far as I'm concerned, all "great" games (i.e., the ones not just worth buying, but still worth buying two or three or ten years down the road) have replay value. Even if it's a fixed, linear experience (Half-Life), if it's fun enough, I'll do it twice. Although my favorites are the games with lots of choice available (Planescape: Torment, Fallout, Deus Ex), I'll admit that in all honesty, these games go above and beyond what is worth my cash, but having great replay value tends to mean that the game is just a higher quality of game in general.

He took the words out of my mouth. Because of this, I tend to ignore replay value (unless it's a multiplayer game, of course) comments and just buy games based on how good they are.

Any game where you can collect items. Especially Card-Based games if you're the TCG junkie or just a friggin pack rat. Just simply collection.

Some games, like Modern Warfare 2, I know will only serve its purpose for me for the length of the campaign, so I'll rent that one sometime soon. But for the most part, I buy games for story: in that case, it doesn't matter how much I play it, just that I experience it. So I usually buy a game if I think it's worth it, regardless of how much total time I'll end up putting into it.

Not exactly on replay value. More on general longevity (normal game time and replay value if applicable). If it's a damn fun game, then those don't completely matter though. Lots of fun kinda translates into replay value anyway.

Not necessarily replay value, but definitely lasting appeal.

No game, no matter how good the combat, how intuitive the gameplay or how captivating the story is worth my precious time and hard-earned money if I can beat it in five hours with nothing else to do.

Kirby Super Star Ultra is a prime example of this. I love the game, it's wonderful and fun to play, but I was finished with it faster than I was finished with my previous girlfriend.

If a bad game has replay value, I don't care. It's a bad game, why would I play it again?

With a good game however, having replay value is awesome. I kinda hate it when I beat a god game, because I don't want it to end. If it has alot of replay value, that isn't as much of a problem (although playing a game the second time isn't ever as "magical" as the first time).

It really depends on the game and more importantly, the LENGTH of the game.

Say we have a 60 hour long RPG but it has no replay value. Well that's fine, I got a lot out of it. Now say we have a shooter with like a 5 hour campaign. There SHOULD be some more there, even if the game is multiplayer focused.

Also, putting hidden shit to find in corners of levels, especially in a shooter, is not replay values, it's pointless grinding for no fucking reason. It's just boring, tedious and annoying. They should really stop doing that.

Voted "yes", because a game that has a great story is also re-playable to me, thus most games I buy (except for when hype and a rare abundance of cash confuses me) are re-playable.

I have pretty stringent requirements as to what exactly replay value means to me. I don't play games online (that aren't online only) and I prefer a strong single player experience. Even games like Fallout 3 have no replay value to me. It's going to be the same game the next time I play it too.

Actually, I guess I voted "somewhere in between" but truthfully I make purchases on average game length. These days I'm content to rent most games, regardless of quality. Sadly, for PC games this isn't really an option so I have some different set of rules for that.

You know what? The more I type the more I realize I don't have a system, I just buy whatever sounds good.

Personally I want a game where I can do everything I want in just one play throught cause I usually dont have the patience to play the game again.

I think if you like a game enough you will play it again. I don't think it makes much sense to have replayability as a criteria.
