I go to uni five days a week from 9:00am to 6:00pm with 2 hours travelling each way (five 13 hour days a week is a killer, and then assignments when I get home leaves me with on average 4 hours of sleep a night before it starts again. In fact, I'm posting on here in one of my rare half hour breaks) so I have very little time to make money. But as soon as graduate in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology, the money will start coming in (once i pay off the uni fees), but until then, I am fairly poor (and extremely tired)

I just got laid off from my job, so I'm not doing terribly well on the money front at the moment.

I'm a physician. Working through residency. Not making a lot now, but as soon as I'm done I'll be doing all right, as long as future health care reform doesn't make me a federal employee.

I don't really know what to click on in the poll.

Put it this way, I'm generally unconcerned by the financial impact of spending about £300 on two pairs of sunglasses and if I decide I really ought to own a PS3 this weekend, I can happily go and buy one without even bothering to check my bank balance. But I'm not going to be buying a shiny new car any time soon.

Thanks to the recession and the fact that I live in America's second-worst state for unemployment (my current hometown looks better in Fallout 2 than it does in real life, and Jet would be preferable to all the meth addicts around here), I've gone back to college and I'm living a lifestyle that would be instantly familiar to any single 19-year-old.

Once I've got my degree I'm going to move back home to Boston and make my money as a CPA and wealth manager. I've also got a little media-production business I'm starting up, so hopefully this impoverished state won't last too long.

My family is relatively well off, but I don't have a lot of money, I'm a student at the moment. But I am studying medicine, so hopefully in a few years I'll be quite wealthy.

Living with my parents, and I blow all my money on bass equipment
My new cabinet and head.

Although my father might be considered rich, he owns one of these
and one of these

Is that enough bragging for today?

I'm sure we've all heard that "People who play video games will never amount to anything" of something along those lines. I know I have.
So I got to thinking: How many Escapists did amount to something?

I myself have a very low income.
I don't like the correlation between "amounting to something" and "being rich" that your thread suggests. I'm extremely poor, yet in terms of what I've wanted to achieve in my life I've definitely "amounted" to a hell of a lot. I have a job that I love, I'm self-sufficient, have been able to do amazingly awesome things (like going on tour with rock bands, and having the most amazing girlfriends) and am pretty damn happy with life in general. Sure, I can barely pay bills and have to count coins occasionally but I've never felt as if my life so far hasn't been a "success".

Sorry. I'll change it. And yes, you are right.

I still live with my parents, but I manage pretty well financially. I've got a pretty stable, 20-30 hour job, I can save a good amount of cash each month and still have enough money for a game, maybe a few books or a comic or a nice Blu Ray. I own a couple of consoles, an ok-ish gaming PC, a laptop, a pretty damn nice Full HD LCD TV (which my parents lack, hurhurhur, no HD movies for them!), quite a few books and games and a savings account that not many people of my age have saved for themselves (which is about 6.500 euro's, should be 10.000 at the end of the year).

My parents aren't exactly rich, middle-middleclass or even lower-middleclass. I've always had to pay for the things I wanted myself, barely got presents even on birthdays and Christmas and my parents never saved up for me, which is apparently a normal thing to do around here, to set up a savings account for your kid when he's born and donate him the cash when he's 18 or moves out.

Then again, it makes me proud on what I have and thanks to that treatment (and WoW, seriously) I've learned on how to manage my money properly.

On the other hand, things aren't showing to get any better. I have no idea what I want to do with my life, never amounted to anything, ain't got a diploma (other than a worthless high school one, can't do anything with that) to get a proper career with, heck I don't even know what kind of job I would want. Kinda stuck in a rut right now, I manage pretty well, but I'd like to be able to live on my own.

I just wanted to say this, and that's that I really have a great deal of respect for you, knowing about your recent history and all that crap, yet you still work yourself up so well.
Kudo's, and lots of em, hope I can be like you some day.

I don't make a ton of money, but I also don't have a ton of expenses; rent is really cheap for Vancouver, I don't spend a lot on groceries or food, the only bills are power and cable, and I don't really make unnecessary purchases. Scholarships almost always take care of school fees, and when combined with the paycheck I usually have a couple hundred to put in the bank at the end of every month.

I'm certainly not ballin' ? I basically live in low-income housing. But I've got financial stability and substantial savings to fall back on if anything horrible happens, so in comparison to most people that I know, I'm doing pretty well.

My family is rich and are about 50 grand of millionaire status.
Me just starting my GCSE's so not really earning anything except £10 a week.
Sadly I'm very childlike with money, I end up spending it on sweets.

I'm 17 and therefore still depend on my parents but I'd say we're a bit above average. We're not living in a mansion, but we're not in a fridge box. There's enough money for nice sparkly things but not loads.

Some of my friends however are insanely rich, some have Ferraris, Bentleys and HUGE houses, always with names, which makes finding them annoying.

Poor college student from a poor family so I'm in the whole before I begin. So I don't actually buy video games or new consoles. I just play when I can with friends and stuff.
