Poll: Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy,who wins?

I think you're underestimating the power of a god.

Did I say the nukes would kill the gods? Sure, the gods may survive, but the planet won't. unless you suggest that the gods stop the missiles, but since they aren't omnipotent, they could only stop so much. plus there is the consideration of whether a god could be hurt by a nuclear device. It's possible, since in several fantasy stories gods have been wounded by normal people.
Of course, I'd be more interested in a "good science fiction and fantasy versus bad science fiction and fantasy" simply because that at least makes some sense. chaos space marines and space marines would never work together after, just like how the covenant and the UNSC would never agree to fight together.

The idea of a god is that it is by definition omnipotent, and once they transcend to earth they give up their full god power (if they so choose) to be more mortal. More often then not, the god is hurt by its own creation, made specifically to kill a god that a mortal finds that has ties to the gods (whether being chosen or birthed by them).

So yes, Im going to say that by definition of what it means to be godly, they are omnipotent and could not only stop the missile, but also negate its effect and destroy its sender.

And thats before we even add magic into the mix. and I'll just say, I've seen POWERFUL magic before, that nukes and even the force of the big bang itself would quake and fear before.

This is pretty simple, if we're talking hard sci-fi vs low fantasy, hard sci-fi would win (hard sci-fi being realistic stuff aka no Q no gods no replicators etc, and low fantasy would be like Game of Thrones, the first book). Hard sci-fi vs high fantasy, high fantasy would win (aka marvel Thor). And with soft sci-fi which is anything like Q, gods, replicators etc, is just magic that is instead of chanting you hit a button so against low fantasy it would be people with "magic" (soft sci-fi) vs low fantasy, people without magic, so soft sci-fi would win and soft sci-fi vs high fantasy who can tell the difference, they both use magic it's just who chants and who push's a button.

They both have powerful allies, warriors, powers, etc.

Superior technology, limitless races from limitless amounts of worlds, Giant Fighting Robots, FLT travel, Space Colonies, Planet-destroying weaponry, Planet-Sized weaponry, Genetic Engineering (which can result in Dragons and, clones), Advanced Cybernetics (which can also result in Dragons and, human-replacing cyborgs), Laser-guns, Laser-Swords

Multiple races, Magic, Dragons, Purebred Mythical Creatures, Gods, Goddesses, Mythril, Fate/Destiny

Despite all of the advantages Sci-Fi has, you really can't beat the power of Fate. Sci Fi has The Force but only in Star Wars. Fate and Destiny are always huge in fantasy whereas Sci-Fi don't seem to use that as often (or maybe I'm just missing it). As for Gods and Goddesses, they can always be killed, beaten, defeated, etc. Thanos, Galactus, Zeus, Hercules...All beaten by supposedly lesser creatures at one point or another. It's a really close call.

Personally though, I prefer Sci-Fi. I loves me some Fantasy but Sci-Fi is my favorite.

Not Daemon thingys they are dark chaos gods, representing the 4 horrors of the universe! they will crush you just with a glance. and yes they do have a various assortment of gods that they can pull the 'god card' on.
Sci-fi winss because the only thing fantasy barely has going for it is the god card and that is very losse. And there soldiers numbers are either couintered withthe technology or countered in numbers as well as with the technology bonus. The sci fi armour can be near impervious from the fantasy weapons, not to metion the ability to scare the enemy into submission in just a few battles. I could go on and on with this but that would be long.

Due to the limitless number of people in a Sci-Fi universe, advanced tech that can destroy worlds, access to some of their own gods, and the fact most rain hot lead from the sky against people with swords I'm giving it to Sci-Fi hands down.

Warhammer 40K is not the 'definition of sci fi'. Just because something is set in the future and has laser guns and ftl travel does not proper sci fi make imo. Warhammer 40K is a soft as sci fi ever comes. Don't get me wrong, I love it to bits, but it is not a proper deep sci fi, and certainly doesn't define the genre.

Game of thrones against starwars and there would be a lot of dead swordsmen.

Firefly against Warcraft and it would be a little more evenly matched.

Fantasy uses magic. Magic isn't bound by the law of physics and science is. Thus, fantasy would win by default.

Well, fantasy can pretty much call the God card depending on the setting, so they would clearly win.

Yes, then think to many books where gods are SUPPOSED to be a big role, but its just the person doing it.

I think Sci Fi, simply for pure power, arrows can't pierce space marine armor, so I doubt they can stop a chainsaw sword.

OT: Neither. They are both equal, and thus are most powerful when they work together. Perfect example of this: Star Wars. It's got both a sci-fi setting and mystic fantasy mumbo-jumbo(read: the force).

I vote fantasy to win, because science fiction had to deal with the limitations of their technology, battery/ammo limits, physics and other tangible issues. Magic doesn't have that problem. It's magic, it doesn't have to explain shit.
On the other hand, technology to it's utmost limit is indistinguishable from magic. Also, who's fantasy world versus who's sci fi? Jedi's v. Armies of Mordor, G.I. Joe v. Last Unicorn? Are they of comparable level? There would be alot of determining factors.

I'll hand this to sci-fi, because seriously, dragons and magic is all well and good, but that just doesn't compare to the power to destroy a planet. because that is the ultimate power in the universe. jk, but sci-fi anyways

I honestly don't know which to pick, Sci-Fi has Space Marines, the Enterprise, Lightsabers etc and Fantasy has Gandalf, magic, Andúril etc...it's such a close contest. I guess I'll side with Fantasy, solely because I prefer it over Sci-Fi although not by much.
