No.
Defiantly not.
Nintendo is a company that are bringing New Ideas to the table of Video games consoles. Sure many of us aren't fans of motion controls but it was something very new & interesting and we will look back in 20 years and appreciate the pioneering of the wii. If it was down to microsoft & Sony, all we will get is 'cheap PC's for home use' That is all they are. Sure they are wonderful things, but the only advancement will be in the hardware.

The Wii-U is going to be another pioneer for Video games. I feel in 10 years or so, we will all have out Consoles Portable. In the sense that we will be able to carry around out consoles, play games whenever and where ever we want. Then at home be able to enjoy the graphics by plugging it into our TV at home.

Nintendo are the few creative minds left in the Video game world. I find it sad people don't support them anymore :(

No. I love Nintendo and I will always support their production of consoles. I love my Wii, in fact, I play it more than my 360. Yeah, it has a lot of shovelware on it, but if you sift through the crap you'll find a pretty damn solid line-up of games. Deal with it.

Although I personally don't have any interest in the Wii, and would love Nintendo to focus on xbox/ps3 games... No. It's the highest selling console, so there's actually more interest in that then there is xbox/ps3. Why would I want to deny others fun, especially when it barely impacts me.

Plus, I love their 3DS. Not to mention most of their classics wouldn't work well on the other consoles.

Nope, they should keep going. Nintendo for me is often the saving grace for keeping me interested in gaming.

When I get bored of grey shooters, muscle bound men, being called a ****** by 13 year olds, apocalyptic cities, I throw on a zelda, kirby, mario or okami game and remember why the hell I started this shit in the first place.
This sums up my feelings on the subject very nicely

No, absolutely not. I love Nintendo, its what I grew up with, its where I started my gaming career and where I intend to finish it. So what, they had some bad hand-helds and consoles, but lets not forget that they had great ones as well. Besides, without Nintendo coming up with new ideas, where will Microsoft rip-off their ideas from?

Hmm, should the only one of the big three concerned with making games stop making consoles and leave us with two companies who have never developed a major title in their existence to duke it out? I think not. Sure they have no clue what a lot of the western audience wants and sure they are terrible at dealing with third parties but at least they actually know how the development process works. That and they're the only one of the big three not obsessed with the technical attributes of their hardware. Sure this is the root of many of their problems with third parties, but I still don't think graphical horsepower will ever be as important as simple aesthetics and game developers and producers need to understand this.

No. Saying Nintendo should stop making consoles is like saying all companies should stop making consoles, and everyone should move to PCs. Nintendo reaches a different market to the PS3 and Xbox, who reach a different market to PC.
Nintendo is for the very casual gamers, and families, and includes gimmicky fun things that are fine if you don't play very often, or play with others so that you don't concentrate on them, but for those who play regularly and/or alone will soon become tired of the gimmicks.
PS3 and Xbox appeal to a less casual crowd, but a more casual one than the PC. They don't care too much about the system, only that it is easy to use and will run the games they want it to. They also usually appeal more to group gamers than PCs as usually only one console is required to play together in the same room.
PCs are the least casual platform, with many of the users putting emphasis on their rigs and how well they run. Higher standards are expected of PC games, as they are capable of much more than consoles, and certain games that would appear daunting to a very casual player are abundant on the PC (Civ as an example. Not a casual sort of game, it will take a long time to finish one game and requires some deep thought on the higher difficulties). Not all PC gamers are 'hardcore'. There are varying degrees of causality on all platforms, and you will get overlaps between all three platforms in this matter. These are just generalisations based off the opinions I hear most often about each platform.

Each platform has its place, and if you start discriminating against 'Lesser' platforms, you start providing more fuel flamewars against your own console, due to how 'casual' it is compared to other platforms. Nintendo has its place in gaming. It is not as much with us hardcore gamers as it used to be, but it still has its place.

I honestly wish I would so I would not have to buy a whole console just to play 5 games. If they were put on ps3 that would be a dream.

I love my 3DS, and the motion controls to control the slingshot and first person modes in Occarina of Time is awesome, and i'd consider myself a hadcore gamer... I also have Kinect... So what the Wii doesn't play to your tastes! Don't buy one, and leave it to the people who do like it! I for one do enjoy some of the games on it! Although its more for social playing, I prefer to sit at my Xbox for the larger gaming sessions!

I'm currently enjoying the heck out of Skyward Sword, a game that is far better on the Wii with Motion Plus than it would be on another console. Granted, the Wii isn't perfect, but Nintendo makes games that use the hardware very well, and not just party games.

So, no. Don't assume all hardcore gamers hate Wii controls.
Hey, I know this sounds off topic, but does Skyward Sword require motion controls or can I use a classic controller as an alternative?

It's the reason I couldn't stand Twilight Princess on the Wii, but loved it on the Gamecube. It's just that I'm used to having my controllers having a precise and immediate response. Is the response any better than it was for TP or does SS have the same problem?

No. No they should not. In the interest of the corporation, they should continue to produce and sell consoles for as long as it remains profitable. This is simple business sense and no amount of people who kill flies with sledgehammers can change that.

"I dislike their console, they should stop making them altogether!" What is this I don't even

Why does their releasing the consoles affect you in any way? If the console appeals to you, then you'll buy it. If it doesn't, you won't. This is like saying "I never sit at one specific table in my favorite cafe because it's beside a window that's always too bright for me, they should take it out." Why the hell would they do that? Ever consider that other people sit at that table/play that console?

Plus, it's the most successful console by far. So not only do you inexplicably want your favorite cafe to remove a table, you want them to remove the table that MOST PEOPLE SIT AT because you just dislike sunlight.

If it's exclusives that you're worried about, then I say this: "Sony and Microsoft should just screw off and stop making consoles, so their exclusives can be on PC." Or, if you're a PC elitist like me, "Game devs should just stop releasing games for PC and focus entirely on console markets". To either of which I would gleefully reply "Please go soak your head".

The question you SHOULD be asking is "Should I buy their consoles?"

The answer to which is "I dunno lol"

I never was a Nintendo customer, so I can't really say.

As someone who grew up on nintendo, and owns a wii, its just the most damning feeling. I got all the games like metroid prime 3 and twilight princess and they were really good games. But thats just it, within a couple months the well dried up, and there was nothing to look forward to, so back to halo i went. Then the next wave of games just kinda went to crap. Do i need to say how metroid other m took the most badass bounty hunter, and remade her into an emotionless shell of metal. The only thing at the moment that i see it 'has' so to speak is the virtual console and the new zelda game (have yet to try). I mean come on, the whole retro nintendo libray, all up for downloads, you can get like five games for like twenty. Verus buying the hard copies which seem to be going for 15 a pop.

Just give nintendo some time. We will see how it goes from today.

Not only should Nintendo keep making consoles, but SEGA should also get back in the game. Now, Sony could quit, for all I care.

No way.

The day Nintendo decides not to continue making consoles is the day gaming innovation comes to a screeching halt or at least a major slow down. Nintendo has been the constant pioneer of new video gaming styles and taking huge risks in the field. Sometimes it works, like with Wii (whatever your thoughts on motion controlling, you can't deny it turned the gaming world on its head). Other times it doesn't, like with the Virtual Boy. However, they have never shied away from trying to explore uncharted ground with risky ideas. Sony and Microsoft's innovations in their consoles have usually been media quality-oriented; enhanced graphics, better audio, faster load times, etc. All important things, mind you, but very safe and all about making existing norms slightly better. Most of the major gaming innovations of the recent years (motion controls, touch screen, glasses-free 3D, etc) have been brought to the mainstream because of Nintendo and their deviations from the hardcore gamers norm.

Once Nintendo leaves the console race, you better be prepared for a straight-up graphical quality dick waving contest for at least the next three generations.

Nintendo should absolutely keep making consoles. I, for one, think that the Metroid Prime Trilogy is the best $50 I've ever spent on a game. Methinks Sony and Microsoft completely missed the application of the Wiimote when they developed the Move and the Kinect. It brings point-and-click and/or mouselook to consoles. In fact, if anything, I think Microsoft should stop making consoles and make room for another differentiator. Everything they're doing with XBLA and their in-house studios could be done on the PC without needing to hemorrhage cash from the Entertainment division. They could even continue charging people the price of a low-end MMO for the privilege of hearing white trash hurl racist, homophobic, and sexist epithets at them.

Nintendo makes great consoles, and what's more, because of their development process, they make killer software for them. Their history of platform launch titles includes such mind-blowing gems as Super Mario Bros., Tetris, Super Mario World, Ocarina of Time, GoldenEye, Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Advance Wars, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime Hunters, and Wii Sports, all of which were expressly designed to show that not only did they have cool technology, but they could do cool things with it. Microsoft has had Halo, Halo 3, and Wii Sports. I mean Kinect Sports.

So basically, Nintendo has earned their keep in full and the game industry would be in a much sorrier state without their hardware.

Even this isn't true, methinks. As processors have started topping out, graphical quality isn't going to get pushed much better by improvements in the consoles. More RAM might help but it'll also drive up our power bills, and ultimately the responsibility is on developers to improve graphical fidelity in a meaningful way *cough* Oblivion *cough*.

In total fairness, I jumped on Microsoft a bit harshly here, but ultimately I think the technology in Kinect is better suited for the massive list of miscellaneous applications it has, like Minority Report UI design or intuitive 3D modeling. Gaming is probably the *last* thing I want to do without a controller.

... usually something like "Terrible-Average sequel to a popular Franchise like Mario" or their common route of "GOD AWFUL ONE-SHOT GAMES".
What the hell are you smoking? Did you ever even see a copy of Metroid Prime? Or Pikmin? Or Battalion Wars? I think the popular conception that "Nintendo doesn't do anything but Mario and Zelda and Pokémon" is a classic case of Cowboy Bebop At His Computer, as TVTropes would put it. They take tons of risks. They're giving us Xenoblade, for crying out loud. Fire Emblem hasn't had a score below 75 on Metacritic since it hit the States. Nintendo is a hardcore gamer's game company through and through. Just because they put out a Kirby title every so often so that four-year-olds won't be put off by the punishing difficulty of Mario Galaxy 2 is no reason to blow off their entire catalog.
