Depends on your age a lot. Older you get, more responsibility you'll need to take of your actions, but you should also have more freedom. In our high-school there was a certain amount of hours you were allowed to skip for any reason, after using them you needed to give a reason.

I myself spent most of my junior high and some of my high-school at home or a library, and still graduated on top of my class.

I was bullied a lot, and a restricted environment like a school was not pleasant for me anyways. At times I got physically sick at the idea of going to school, even, so I guess I had a real reason at times.
That being said, it would have been better if those problems I had in school were dealt with, instead of avoiding them, although it wasn't for a lack of trying from the part of my mom.

At the moment, I'm a student at a university, and we are expected to choose for ourselves what to do, and which lectures to participate. Usually several of the courses you want to take will overlap, and you'd be unable to attend all of them anyway. Some basic lectures I never attended, just read the books about the subject, and went to the exam.

Some practical work you'll need to attend to some extent to pass, but if you drop off, it's your bussiness.

I'm pretty sure I've never skipped school. I say "pretty sure" because there were a couple days I probably could have gone to school sick and didn't.

Anyway, I'm not strictly opposed to it, but I'm not sure I can endorse it either.

I only ever skip school on snow days, because the teachers won't be in and so there is no point. Other than that, just copying up the notes from the people who were actually there doesn't really constitutes as a productive substitute for actually being there, because actually being there, you can get more insight into the topic, and learn some useful facts.

But then again, I like (most of) my lessons and my teachers anyway, and so there's no real incentive to skip school most of the time (except having to get up at 6:45 - that's hell).

Only ever did once in compulsory schooling.

Now I'm doing A-levels I'll skip a few lessons now and again when I've got better things to be doing.

Go for it, its only your education you impact, if you don't want to go you'll most likely not learn anything anyway and probably negatively affect other's learning, so if you really don't want to go then, don't.
I've never had any negative experiences with it, always turned into good days and alot of fun with mates.
However, having said that, don't pressure someone else to do it if they don't want to, its fine for you to behave as you will when it impacts your education, not someone else's.

Only if you are feeling really ill is it okay to skip school.

I have a friend who regularly skips school when he can't be bothered or he has homework in that he hasn't done. He always misses weeks at a time, with the latest one being the whole week before Christmas. He isn't bothered in the slightest but what he doesn't know is that when he skips school he misses out on masses of work. This coupled with him doing no revision whatsoever and our GCSE exams coming up in May leads me to believe he isn't going to do well.

And the funny thing is that he doesn't care and takes it as a joke.

I only days I took off school was 2 days when I had Stomach Flu, and on the Thursday that has just been because I had been coming into school with a cold, hadn't been taking medicine, and it was getting worse so I took a day off. Which I felt I needed.

Even if I did like to skip school my parents wouldn't let me because they are responsible and make me go to school (which I like).

I can't see any other reason why you should stay off school other than physically being unable to go into school. I mean it's your education and your future you only get one chance at it and if you choose not to take it then it will effect the rest of your life in a bad way.

I find education to be unimportant anyway, so I skipped a lot in school and college, not so much now in university because I pay for it, but I do walk out if I just can't be bothered. I passed my GCSEs and A-Levels without revising for them, and skipping a lot of the classes. I didn't get A's, but I never wanted them to begin with.

I don't have a problem with people doing it, and apparently my college didn't either. I skipped up to 4 lessons a week at college, and my tutor didn't do anything, she just put on that worrying tone and was like "Jameeesssss, you shouldn't be like this", but she never rang my parents or anything. Basically, chances are you're gonna pass your GCSEs and A-Levels without revision, and if you're happy with C's and the occasional B, you may as well just skip loads of the lessons because education is fucking boring.

The search bar sort of approves, I didn't see this as a poll thread so.

I've been thinking about this lately, and I myself think it's okay to occasionally skip school - but what you have to do is then take responsibility for your actions. If you can cope with the consequences, then I think you can skip school if you feel it necessary. If you can't however, I think you probably shouldn't, since you're obviously just messing stuff up for yourself.

But there's a lot of factors that come into the decision of skipping school or not.
<spoiler=I skipped school this friday, the last day, because>The assignment we were supposed to do I was already done with, and I had recently been in an argument with a really thickheaded, irresponsible and respectless twat in my class that I did not want to see at the last day of school because he pissed me off so much. So what I did was I met up with one of my good friends, we went to his place, I cuddled with his lovely pets, we played some Minecraft, then we ate lunch at Subway, I met another of my friends there by coincidence, then we met up with our friend, bought tons of coke and chips, went to his place and had a sleepover, playing loads of Half-Life 2 and Minecraft. We ate the leftover chips and some waffles for breakfast the day after, then played some more Half-Life 2 and Minecraft.
tl;dr I had a fucking blast skipping school, and not one iota of me felt guilty for doing so.

So, what do you think? Is it okay, stupid, fine, bad, good?
Depends, if you are a slack jawed nit wit who can't get his grades higher than a D+ than you should stay at school and study like hell. If you can keep straight C's and get higher sometimes than I wouldn't be to angry.

Also it depends on what school you go to, at my school we have to always be working on assignments until the last week of school, we don't ever get a break. SO basically if I skip school I better study really hard at home to finish my assignments on time. I'm guessing your not in a school similar to my one, so I think it would still be okay to skip without having to do tons of work at home.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, you can tell me off anyway, skipping school is never without it's negatives, although at some points it can be outweighted by the positive.

The only time that it's actually worth skipping school is when you have something completely pointless going on all day. Y'know, like a diversity seminar where they 'teach' you how to respect people who are different and such. If you have a doctor's appointment or something then you'll also need to go to that, health is more important than education.

However, if you're skipping school because of something as trivial as not liking a teacher or a lesson then you don't deserve any education at all. Get it while it's free.

Just don't. Seriously.

Get straight A's through highschool and then be done with it and get on with your life. You don't want poor grades because you skipped school and missed something which you needed to be closing doors in your life later on.

If you can't survive in school for 6-7 hours with really nice lunch breaks and all your friends around you, how the hell you going to survive working 8-9 hours at your first full time job that last longer then summer break with people you might hate?

Put it in perspective... its not that bad!!!!!!!!!

I'm actually at the top of my class, which is just because I, well, do my assignments and rarely skip. Also I try to work hard on the lessons, while also making my buddies stfu when the teacher is speaking, which is more difficult than it sounds.¨

However, skipping has only impacted one of my grades, which is gym. I'm having some issues with it, partly because I feel uncomfortable showering/changing in front of a lot of people, and because I'm a woman and once a month, gym is the last thing you want to do. So I have avoided it, since it's also my last class on the day we have it. I stopped doing it after about 2-4 skips, though, because I realised how stupid it was.

... shrink? So in Texas skipping school = you're crazy? That's a little harsh. Sometimes students just don't feel like coming to uni, no big deal. I've heard a lot of teachers say that they'd love to be able to skip classes.

Skipping school can, on occasion, be forgivable if you have a good reason. I remember a time in which I skipped school to visit someone who was very close to me (Name withheld for the sake of privacy) but had been assaulted in a very brutal manner the day before, and no one else was willing to see her or help her recover as she didn't have many friends.

I also skipped once because I was sick as a dog, I was vomiting, sneezing, and could hardly get off the toilet but my mother insisted I trudge through the snow at 5 am anyways to at least "Try and go." I didn't want to make myself sicker by walking that far in the cold, so I popped over to one of my neighbors and he understood the situation; plus he actually had some cough syrup.

If you don't have a good reason for skipping though, then I don't think you should. I valued my education highly and I actually enjoyed learning (Unless it was math.) because so much of it fascinates me. I love books, I love languages, I love history, etc. It really irked me when some students would skip just to go bouncing around town or because they were afraid of a test, then came back and whined about the fact that they didn't have the lesson proper for an upcoming test.
