It's fine. The PC version patches the annoying stuff (For instance, it upped the weapon limit).

That said, did end up deleting it for space on the HD before actually beating it.

Unless they show up to my house with a cornetto and a loaded revolver intended for my forehead, I wouldn't get it.

But then again, considering they went ahead and pulled that mummified corpse of a property creaking out of the coffin anyway, I wouldn't be too surprised. Desperate times calls for desperate acts.

Just one Cornettooooo
Give it to meeeeeee
Delicious ice creeeeeeaaaammmm
From I-ta-leeeeeeee!!!

Seriously, why would I want to play a sub-par shooter with a side order of turd flinging and rape jokes? If you don't want to play a game, even twenty pence is too much.

I personally hated Duke Nukem Forever.
Simply put, it kept old FPS components that don't make sense when viewed in the context of new FPS components.

Take some of the jumping puzzles.
There are in general two penalties for making a mistake in a jumping puzzle.
Health Damage and Instant Death

Instant Death is the most annoying, without warning it just kills you dumps you to the absurdly long loading screens. This can be made tolerable by quick saving... but wait, FPSs these day operate on a checkpoint system.
LOL you have to redo the whole level.

Health Damage is much more tolerable, you don't have to play perfectly and it tells you specifically on you health meter how dumb you were... Oh wait... Health Regenerates.
Making this entire thing, entirely pointless.
Most hilariously there are portions where you can shoot an obstacle to save on the health hit.
Why would I want to expend non-regenerating ammo to save on regenerating health?

It makes perfect sense if health were a more valuable commodity than ammo, but they left that puzzle in anyway.

Really this is just the biggest example, the entire game is rife with contradictions of this type. The game play just does not make sense.

Also, I wasn't put off by the sexist content, It was bad, but I was more bothered by the game portions of the game.

I would rather spend that $5 on a nice claw hammer to beat my dick with because that would still be more enjoyable than DNF.
Which is sad because with one minor adjustment the game could have been fucking awesome.

Duke Vision!

Imagine that instead of it being a crappy heat vision it was actual Duke Vision. You turn it off and you see the world how it really is, turn it on and you see it how Duke deludes himself into thinking it is.
So his twins and mansion are instead two 50 year old hookers and its a crappy studio apartment.
Duke in the mirror is really fat and balding with it turned off.
The 3 boobed alien is exactly the same just missing the boobs.
The soldiers constantly mock Duke under their breath and only tolerate him because he is good at killing shit.

Shit like that would have bumped DNF up to my top 10 list.

I spent that much during the Holiday sale just so I could say "I played a game that was in development for more than a decade". it's worth it just to play it ironically.

I paid $17 AUD for it on release and I enjoyed it (probably a lot more than I should have). Play it for the "comedy", I found the jokes/one-liners funny in how lame and misogynistic they were.

DNF is $5 on Steam....
...and it's still overpriced. There's much better on Steam for $5.

Indeed. Some thing's you just need to be paid for in order to waste your time doing it.

Going on a tangent, this film. You'd have to fucking pay me to see it again. It was a piece of shit.

I'd say no. Because Duke laughs at rape and makes jokes about it while watching women get raped by aliens.

I can't really recommend any game where the main character does this.

The shooting was alright, the "humour" was horrible and I hated a fair few of the parts. Rape jokes, really Duke?

Eh, if I were you I'd spend the fiver on something else, even just another game.

Hey, funny this thread came up.

When DNF came out to less than welcome reviews, I'm glad I didn't fork out $50 for it. (I had the choice between Duke and Alice; I'm glad I chose the latter.) However, I still have the Duke nostalgia factor. Duke 3D came out when I was 16 and I have fond memories of that game. About a month ago, Duke had already be knocked to to $20. This was still too much, but I told myself that if DNF ever got down to $5 on Steam, I'd buy it.

So yeah, I'm getting this, if nothing else but to play as his Dukeness, with his cheesy one-liners one more time.

Now where are my rose-tinted googles?

The game could have and should have been better, but for what it is it's a decent trip. However, I'd only recommend this if it were bundled with The Doctor Who Clone Me, the far superior expansion to DNF.

Love it or hate it, it's your choice. In the hands of Gearbox and 2K I'm fairly confident Duke has a bright future ahead, something we can all look forward to.
