Poll: Subs or dubs?

Not entirely sure,but subs I guess.English speaking nations are much better at voice acting than Japan,but have to work around the lip syncing,and write awful dialogue because it has to match up with the animation.This leads to awesome voices that fit the character perfectly,but saying things that make my ears bleed.Is it really that hard to redraw or edit the scenes so the lips sync up?

I watch dubs unless they are unavailable or they prove to suck. Often I'll watch the show in both languages and make a decision form there, it usually ends up being dubs. The dubs most often fail in regards to characters that are either cute or funny, i.e shows like K-ON. Action or drama the english actors often do a fine enough job as far as I'm concerned.

It depends on the quality of dubbing. Anime like Outlaw Star and Yu Yu Hakushou had great voice acting that matched up the action on screen.

Dubbing for other shows like One Piece, was akin to shoving barbed wire in my ears.

Dubs for anime, subs for films. I can't stand monotone japanese people or helium japanese people, so if i need to, I listen to monotone english people or helium english people.

Now films where the lip syncing is actually good is a different story. I hate watching movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with the dub.

No matter how bad the dub is it always seems to fit the characters better because I DON"T UNDERSTAND JAPANESE.

Subs for live action, just can't see films like City of God being as good dubbed, but dubs for animation (usually anime) as long as they aren't terrible but I will watch subbed from times to time. Subtitles usually requires me to focus less on the action and actual animation.

I really don't understand how people feel that the subbing is ALWAYS better, I'll probably get a lot of hate for this but it's probably because people don't understand a word they are saying thus can't really judge their accent or voice acting. Of course the original VA (in this case for anime) can sound good plus being the original VO is probably better but I just think people would think differently if they were fluently.

So yeah:

Films/tv - subs due to lip syncing
Animations/Games - dubs unless it is noticeably bad.

Subs, definitely. Especially when I take her and... oh wait, anime? translations... right... >.>

Yeah, subtitles are often better, but there have been pretty good sound dubs too. Its really a case-by case basis. I've seen really good and really bad on both sides.

At first i only watched subs. Yet when i re watched death note i did the dub. Enjoyed it 10 times more. I could actually watch what was going on instead of staring at the bottom of my screen lol

Subs. Besides the usual, "They just are better at conveying what they want to convey," my Anime intake would be -severely- cut down. Hell, I wouldn't know half the ones I've seen and loved even even existed.

Dubs, I don't like reading text the whole time. I feel like I'm missing parts of the film. In anime, I like dubs because Japanese voice actors are just terrible.

Subs all day erryday. Be it in anime, film or video game. Although, sadly very few Japanese video games (i.e. Zone of the Enders, Catherine, Asura's Wrath[??]) ever come with an option for the original voice-overs. Which wouldn't be such a bad thing if the dubs were good.

That's only for the anime and games anyway. Having lived in both Finland and Portugal, where films and TV are subbed, it's what I'm used to. It's also very useful when it comes to learning languages.

Not having the words match the mouth really takes you out of the experience. I know you said you weren't talking about anime, but still, in that case the mouth matching isn't quite so obvious. It really depends on what anime though. For FullMetal Alchemist I felt the english actors were far superior, for Naruto . . . not so much. Japenese were far better (though not all of the english actors were terrible [Kakashi]).

Depends on the specific thing in question. Generally, I actually prefer dubs, but sometimes I prefer subs.

Subs, definetly. I could go for a good sub sandvich right now. With hard salami and pepperoni and chedda.....oh, you mean anime? I hate anime. And now I'm hungry.

Much more information can be supplied and the Original voices/emotion that the director intended can be heard.

Dubs should only be used for the blind.

It really depends.

Some dubs are just amazing and I hate the originals.

Some dubs are horrible.

I vastly prefer subtitles on most of my anime, but I do enjoy watching FLCL the Hellsing in english from time to time.

Depends. For the most part, subs. For Cowboy Bebop, FMA, DB/Z/KAI/GT, IGPX, etc., dubs.
Case by case basis.
