movies = subs; animation = dubs.

Why?

Das Boot and Der Untergung just aren't the same movies if they're dubbed.

Didn't vote because my answer is two parts. Subs for live films, dubs for some anime and subs for others.

Serious anime gets subs, pokemon etc get dubs.

Subs

I want to hear the original voice actors the way the director intended.

That said I've gotten used to the american cast for cowboy bebop and inu yasha.

But I've seen really bad voice acting in the early 90's (I'm talking about you dominion tank police!) and preferred subs ever since when available.

Probably another bad example but Sailor Moon. The first time I heard it in Japanese I was shocked that Luna didn't sound like a schoolteacher but actually a girl Usagi's age and Rei sounded like a cute girl not a *****.

Also just in case anyone forgot, the first movies were all subtitled (actually intertitled).

subs if the dub sucks. a dub can sound good like the one for Cowboy bebop.

Subtitles cuz then I can then still hear the emotion in peoples voices
some dubs out there keep the emotions.

Overall, the whole failed lip syncing thing ruins dubs when it comes to movies for me. But I prefer dubs when it comes to anime. I just like being able to pay attention to what's going on in the screen.

I like 'em both... though I prefer dubs on the grounds that I can a) understand what they're saying and b) don't have to keep watching the screen all the time.

Subs. The voices can be ruined, crutial parts could be cut because they're "violent". Speech could be added or removed, original jokes could be cut, stupid stereotypes could be stuck in. They could add terrible humor. Or, in general, 4Kidz could dub it.

EDIT: The original context could be changed and some parts may come off weird because of having to lip synch. This is why Funimation won for uploading Subbed anime onto their YouTube.

With anime I prefer subs but I do watch dub on dvd (so I can hear the differences) and if it's on TV (I can't switch it to sub can I?).
When it come to live action foriegn films I always watch it in sub since I find the dubbing to be weired even if the lip syncing to be good.
