Alright, I know this has been done to death already, but I'm putting a little spin on it and I'm using it to settle an argument between my friends. Ignoring powers and stuff like that, who do you think has the better character. This includes personality, backstory, and relationships. Please post why you think what you do as well. Thanks.

I thought this was a fight thread. To which I was about to use a potent argument.

Batman, by far. Not only does he kick ass without being a superhuman allergic to quartz, he also has an excellent disguise and has more brains than superman.

Also, Batman is willing to give up morals for the better good.

I like nolans version of the bat (BB and TDK)

But superman was created just to be a "Good " charecter, and so was bat man at heart (never kills if he can help it)

Personlly i like iron man... he blows stuff up and laughs...we need more supes like mr stark

Superman, unless batman some how figured out that superman was weakened by that rock.

In that case, batman.

You know I would think to say Bruce Wayne. but I will go with Superman.

They both have tragic childhoods, but where Bruce Wayne's obviously impacted him in a dark way, Clark Kent(Kal L, Kal El, whatever he calls himself these days) has always strove to represent the best in the people of his adopted home.

Maybe thats just the tiny sliver of optomist in me, but thats my choice.

He did after superman went nutso with red kryptonite, I believe. After that, I would imagine Batman keeps some just in case.

I'm not really a comic book reader, so from films, fan fics and other things I still give Superman my vote.

He thinks hard about how to overcome his enemies where as darn near every single one of them knows his weakness and has access to it. He goes against his weakness for the greater good. He never crosses the line, he always fins a way not to and still save the day. Although Batman is cool, I'd still rather be superman.

Batman of course. Batman has real emotional depth and scarring that makes him a more empathetic and understanded character. Supes is a wuss from Krypton who always complains that his planet got blown up. Boo fucking hoo.
This. Brilliant, exactly how i feel about super tights man.
yeah also reading superman comics is practically a guessing game "who'll bring our kryptonite (spelling?) this time?" Or he just goes around being invincible

Whereas Batman's foe's have much more depth and I like Batman as a character, constantly using his own fears to strengthen and improve him, he changes a lot more the Superman and the fine line between hero and vigilante, superman is just too clear cut.

Batman, because Superman is just too perfect. Batman has the flaws that make him human.

I did always wonder why superman didn't make himself some form of lead armour... I mean he did the whole secret identity thing and thats cute, even if he would've realistically never gotten away with it, But... wait he wouldn't be able to see through lead because his x-ray vision doesn't look through it. I've destroyed my argument.

Well, I've read (at least some of) the comics, and from those, I'd say Batman. I've always preferred his backstory, it always seemed more realistic.

Although, to be fair, that's to compare to Superman's backstory, which is an infant alien from a destroyed planet landing on Earth.

Yeah, I like my heroes to have a vaguely realistic background, which is why I like Tony Stark, and his alcoholism.

Even the movies make out Batman and his backstory, hell even his relationships, including one with his "sidekick" that we won't go into, to be cooler. Well, except him and Robin, that relationship in the movies they appear in is still plain scary.

Batman. Too many of the Superman comics just turn into big cosmic slugfests, while Batman stories tend to have a more grounded nature.

Batman, a man with NO superpowers, has beaten superman again and again, even in alternate universes (see red son) Batman has been able to defeat superman, the worlds greatest detective shows that normal guys can do anything and beat the big headed douches

I've read some of the comics, and I think Batman, just because he's a normal guy, and also because I saw, after Dark Knight came out, that "Tech of Batman" documentary, which showed that most of the stuff he uses could be made (or already has been, it's just not fully complete yet). Also, in an actual fight, well, Batman does always carry some Kryptonite (SP?)on him at all times in a lead lined pouch on his utility belt, just in case.

Superman is Bruce Wayne times infinity.

Bruce Wayne lost his parents when he was a kid, Superman lost his planet when he was a toddler. He never knew his real parents. Bruce Wayne's a playboy millionaire, he could at any time retire from being a vigilante. Superman is Superman; he can't hide from the fact that he's not human and he can't ever live a normal life. Batman's a rich guy fighting acid burnt mental patients, while Superman routinely takes on cosmic threats to planet Earth.

It's not really a fair contest.

Two words: super speed. Superman's comparable to the Flash. Sometimes favorably.

So long as Superman lands a diamond shattering first punch, Batman's dead. No matter how many green rocks he's got safely stowed away in his utility belt, they don't help if he can't get to them in time. It all comes down to who gets the drop on who.

It wouldn't be easy for Batman to do. Doesn't Superman also have super hearing?

Superman is only vulnerable to two things besides Kryptonite (and other yellow sun blocking things): mind control (which he's still fairly resistant to) and magic.
