When it comes down to just basic, if they were to actually fight, it would be Batman.

Of course if it was based on Character and everything else about them, It'd actually have to be Superman.

Batman, yeah we get it, you're parents died, you're broody about it, so you fight crime, boo hoo.

Superman lost his fucking home world, he was raised by a farming couple, he then found out his parents aren't really his parents and that his actual parents are dead (or something).

He then has one nemesis that despite all his best efforts always manages to not only escape from jail but come out almost completely on top alot of the time unlike joker who only wins if he screws with your head first.

Superman is also in love with the possibly the stupidest woman alive, I mean any woman who can get to the point where she's actually FCUKED Superman, knows his exact personal details like weight, and height, and NOT notice that he's actually Clark Kent, simply because he WEARS GLASSES, then I'm sorry, Brucey, He's got you licked on that too.

Your relationships only fail because you're a dick and always choose being a hero over having a girlfriend, either that or they're always the fucking villain of the moment.

and even when regarding all this, does Superman eevr truly let it get to him?

No, he continues fighting for justice completely.

What does Batman do? He fucking broods in his cave and then reluctantly goes out to smack the shit out criminals to vent his frustration over his life issues.

Superman doesn't bring that shit to work with him, Batman, pick up the pace, yeah?!

---------------------

That was mostly bullshit ranting, but it was fun to write xD

Also, it's a bit pointless to discuss who would win out of Batman and Superman, 'cos they officially killed Batman already. xD

Superman was totally clueless that his parents even died until way later. As far as Clark is concerned, his real parents are alive and well (or whatever version of the DC universe it may be where they could be dead, cyborgs, or something else equally goofy). It would be like you finding out you were adopted and your real parents died when you were 2 months old. You're unlikely going to get all upset over people you never met.

Superman is too lame, he can beat up all the super powered guys but regular dudes give him a ton of trouble.

Supergirl has more problems than Superman, she actually REMEMBERS her planet and got stuck growing up on an alien world she had no clue about.

Superman, unless batman some how figured out that superman was weakened by that rock.

In that case, batman.
He did after superman went nutso with red kryptonite, I believe. After that, I would imagine Batman keeps some just in case.
Don't remember seeing it in the comics but I remember in the TV show Batman had said he always carried a shard of kryptonite in his utility belt.

Anyways Batman all the way.

Batman: Criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot, so I will dress up as a bat to deal with my abandonment issues!
Superman: I am basically a god!

Iron man is the best, at least Ultimate Iron man. Ultimate iron man: I will use my brains and money to build myself a robosuit cause super heroing is fun, chicks dig super dudes and I want to do something nice for the world.

Ive read a good amount of them, admitantly they are the more modern ones so I cant say Ive read ALL of them. But Ive read some.

I personally like Batman better, mostly becuase he is more human and I find I cant relate to him (at times). Unlike superman, who I cant relate to at all (unless both of us having ten fingers and tend toes counts as "relating").

Took them almost a month to catch up with this one then.

But...the point still stands Batman is the better character.

They're taking their time, I'll say that.

OT, I think Batman has a more interesting personality than Superman.

I think it's funny that we're having "Batman has Kryptonite so he wins" conversations as the poll was supposed to be about the two heroes personalities. Batman having Kryptonite on his belt at all times seems to me like a sign of paranoia and cynism.

The whole "Being prepared for everything" frame of mind that batman seems to have seems to me like a very poor outlook on humanity. He expects his friend and lifelong inspiration to fail the planet to the point that he feels it essential to carry the one thing that can kill him with him at all times. I'd put my faith in the personality on the guy that had crystal coaching in the north pole over "eternally seeking revenge because of his messed up childhood" man.

In the Fortress of Solitude Jorel spent years teaching his son the reasons and ways of helping people when they are in need of help, being an inspiration to a whole planet and being instructed on how to use (and not abuse) his powers. His "Truth, Justice and the American Way" catchphrase has kinda dropped off in the last 20 years, mainly because the "American Way" has changed to the point that it no longer fits Superman's idealogy, however even though America has changed Superman refuses too. He is still doing the right thing.

Batman in his latest movie incarnations is shown as an answer to what happens when the government grows through corruption. Batman doesn't follow any moral code about what he will do to catch a crook (apart from not killing people) and resorts to invasion of privacy and many crimes himself. Superman's latest movie incarnation shows him in more of the "people protector". Someone about to be in a car accident, or being shot at, or mugged, etc. Moments of instant injustice. He will show up long enough to stop the person from being in any danger but assumes that people will do the right thing having been shown the error of their ways.

Batman's personality is hopelessly depressing. Superman's is hopelessly optimistic. If it were not for Lois Lane's existance this contest would be an easy one for me to decide... but sheesh Supes, what's wrong with you?

Superman is a person with incredible physichal strength and abilities who, even though he could do it with a thought, refuses to kill anyone. He carries the burden of coming from an entire civilization he can never know outside of second-hand information. It's like being adopted, but times a million. He is weak to kryptonite, but he is also weak against magic and mind control, and red light will make him equivalent to a human. He is seen as boring because his writers are lazy or bad or don't quite understand their character. This trend seems to have been turning lately from what I hear.

Batman's superpower is immense psychological trauma. He's generally far too serious for me to like, and he doesn't really deal with other people well. Batman started as the world's greatest detective, but eventually it was decided that he had to be the best at everything. <I have never been comfortable with that point. He usually doesn't kill anyone, but I think he has killed before. If he has not, he is at least very willing to cripple and maim the criminal population to achieve his ends. His moral boundries seem to be flexible, but this may be a failing of the writers. He is seen as exciting because he has good villains to play off of, and because at heart these are still detective novels and so nothing can happen for great periods of time under the pretense of suspense.

Any superperson could handily defeat Batman. Superman need only pick up a suitibly sized stone and throw it from anywhere. He could easily defeat Batman from another continent. The little green rock has a surprisingly short area of effect.

I'll admit I haven't read the comics, just seen various films, but I think it's pretty much a given that Superman would win.
I think Batman is cooler, but he's only human, where as Superman is, well, Superman. He's pretty much invincible isn't he? Unless Batman has some kryptonite up his sleeve.

I'd say Batman. He has more emotional depth, and he doesn't seem like a God, whom has to up against other godly villains *cough cough* superman *cough cough*

As with everything, as usual, it: DEPENDS!!

In this case it depends on who's writing for them. There are some excellent Superman stories, and excellent Batman stories. And there are stinkers a plenty for each, although, from personal experience, the are far more good Batman stories then there are good Superman stories.

Most of this comes from the problem that as someone mentioned, Superman is a practically an immortal flying brick with a key weakness. A lot of writers seem to struggle with him because, half the battle is coming up with a plot whereby Superman can be reasonably challenged and engage in some dramatic tension. Very often this results in: Friend of Superman/Humanity get's kidnapped/held hostage or someone finds a chunk of Kryptonite and attempts to subdue Superman, often in combination with each other. The rest of the time sees Supes beating the snot out of his opponents with little conceivable thought that he could actually lose even -when- a fight is played out so it -looks- like Superman is getting his ass handed to him.

This is why I prefer Batman. Because he's human, he's resourceful sure, and in most of his stories he prevails in the end, but, you never get the feeling that he's invincible, and indeed many Batman stories play up this aspect where, he -will- get broken bones and a bloodied face, or worse. And it is awesome when he regains the upper hand. Even in stories like The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, a retired and going on elderly Batman -still- manages to keep going despite overwhelming odds, and yet, you never get the feeling that he's 'overpowered' or that he couldn't at some point die (though obviously, the writers wouldn't do that ^^').

IMO. Of course.

"CAPTAIN!!!"
"report!"
"We are at nerd factor ten captain, the engines cannot last!"
"Is there anything we can do?"
"NO... BRACE FOR IMPACT!!"

Will the crew of the Starship Forum make it out of this one find out next time!!

Okay okay, little joke sorry.

I say Batman, just because he is actually cool and his costume actually gives off an impression that he wants to keep his identity hidden. Plus he's nice and realistic.

In a fight? Superman. Batman has no powers, just his money and acrobatics. Just like ironman has his brains.

Superman has a bit less depth to him, probably because he's a totally different race than humans (He LOOKS the same)
Whatever Batman just makes Kryptonite bullets and shoots him in the face

My problem is Batman has been pretreated too differently. The goofy 60's Batman, Morison's sci-fi world saving Batman, Miller's psychotic ninja...
His personality is never constant either.

Superman is slightly better about avoiding this but even acts very different and very bizarre based on who's writing him.
