Yeah, my parents and family live in the Lehigh Valley in eastern PA, so they're more or less flipping out at the moment. I'm in Texas, I wish I could teleport them all here. :C

Yeah Sandy is expected to hit upstate New York at 3 pm tomorrow and we are probably going to get flooding in my town but hopefully it won't be as bad as when Issac hit past year since they drained the river that goes through my town.

School got cancelled for tomorrow for me, giving me time for Legends of Grimrock and Cry of Fear, which I picked up yesterday.
Classes got cancelled tomorrow and the day after for me :D

Let's just hope by tomorrow we still have electricity to play our video games...
There's a going theory that we may have school cancelled Tuesday, but nothing's for certain.

What part of the East Coast are you on, perchance? I'm up in Northern VA, near DC.

Live north of Baltimore city, so I'll probably get some rain and wind. University closed Monday and Tuesday...unfortunately all of my classes are online now, so that doesn't affect me at all :(

Sweden here, no hurricanes*/tornados/earthquakes or any of those sorts. I guess that's all good.

Whoever gets hit, good luck to you.

*Okay, rarely we get some hugeass storms that I guess could be classes as hurricanes, but seeing as our costal line to the ocean is mostly covered by mountainous Norway, we don't get hit that bad.

(latest one I can recall was 2005, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclone_Gudrun , but then again that was apparently a cyclone)

Western Canada is fine, as always. Just a little cold outside, as always.
Hope everyone gets through this OK.

Okay, that brightened up my day...as much as it really shouldn't have. I live in NC, it's been rainy, windy, and cold, which is a different kind of miserable.

My grandfather lives an hour from NYC, but he's tough as freaking nails...I talked to him a little bit ago and he pretty much asked me why he'd worry about it : )

Northern NJ; I think we lost electricity for a few days after Irene. Thankfully we had a generator, but it was mostly used to keep the refrigerator and a few lights working.

Yes.
Oh, wait. We're talking about the HURRICANE Sandy. Not my mother.

Then maybe. I live in Toronto, and it's supposed to start raining heavily tomorrow night. I have to go to school tomorrow due to 2 tests, so hopefully it doesn't start until I get home.

lol I doubt anything will come of this except a little bit of wind blowing through the city. When I was in Europe 2 years back in December, they were predicting the worst winter for a thousand years or something like that lol. Of course nothing came of it and it was just a little colder then usual

If this is supposed to be a supposedly strong hurricane, color me unimpressed. I've had the fringes of category one hurricanes do more than the fringes of this hurricane could do.

I live in Michigan so I won't be affected. Well, nothing considerable I would think. At most it may rain a bit more, unless the hurricane decides to turn West instead of North, in which case I will be affected. I certainly am curious to see how things play out.

If by fine, you mean just had the third largest earthquake of the past century, sure (depending on how far west "western" is).

They've declared a state of emergency here in Boston and asked everyone non-essential to stay home tomorrow, but other than right on the coast it doesn't sound like it'll be too bad next to some previous ones. It'll be windy and rainy, but we'll be fine compared to New York.

This IS a category one hurricane.

I think what's making it such a big deal (aside from the fact that it's a hurricane and thus must be the most terrible storm in the history of ever) is that it's HUGE. It's one of the largest hurricanes on record for the Atlantic basin. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Atlantic_hurricane_records#Largest_in_diameter]

My parents just landed in Florida. -__-

I think the hurricane mostly misses Florida.
