I find "manliness" to be a societal concept that discriminates against men by attempting to paint them in a specific manner and asigning roles to them, effectively encouraging gender roles.
Bravíssimo, I couldn't agree more.Feralcentaur said:Some the things I do are considered masculine some feminine and some gender neutral by others. Some might consider my tendency to violence is masculine, some might consider me Singing to be feminine, I don't really identify either of these things in such a way, I don't consider violence to be manly as there are plenty of violent Females (You know meat eater Ants? Those things that charge into battle and eat their enemy alive? They're pretty much all Female) and I don't consider singing to be feminine because there are plenty of Male singers, that and I've never sang in high pitch, always low.
and like you said, whilst having Rainbow Dash saluting as your Avatar!SPARTANXIII said:Real men aren't afraid to do, say or watch ANYTHING.
Like my uncle said, right before climbing Everest in only his pants!
I would consider the smaller guy more of a man than the other guy. The other guy sounds more like the frat guy douchebag that some of us try to forget exist.Radoh said:The smaller guy retorted however, that in order to be Manly, you can't allow yourself to be restricted by anything, Man law or no. That to restrict yourself from anything is to be considered a sign of weakness.
Not that both are connected, mind you. I watch it and I didn't win female tendencies with it. But that's just something I'm adding, nothing more.SuperNova221 said:Well, there are specific things that I can think of that are masculine in nature that I wuold consider, maybe not essential, but would add towards a mans manliness. Overall though, unrestricted is manly. If a man admits to liking MLP and dressing up as a woman on the weekends, then he has a lot of balls. So I guess I'd consider that manly.
Wasn't implying that they were. Was just the first two relativley common non-masculine things I could think of that some men chose to do for the example.gabmed said:Not that both are connected, mind you. This, pretty much.ziggydk said:i say 50/50. to be manly there are som somethings you need to do, one of them it to not restrict yourself.
MLP is a quite manly show, thank you very much. Because only men with real balls can admit to watching it.SuperNova221 said:Wasn't implying that they were. Well, can't really argue with that for two reasons. Would contradict what I first said. And I've never actually watched it.gabmed said:MLP is a quite manly show, thank you very much.
