Rage for me. I like a challenge, but not masochistic levels. And this is coming from someone who played and beat Super Mario Bros 2, the real one, the one that wasn't sold outside Japan in an unaltered form until the virtual console because they thought it was too hard.

Rage. Mainly for the reason's of it being id's first game since Doom 3, has a new engine, and they know what they're doing.
Now if Rage hadn't been pushed back I would have gotten both but I have priorities. And besides, I could take a break for abusing myself, what with Space Marine's laggy-ass, but fun, multiplayer and the BF3 Beta, which is also amazingly fun, because I might tear my own head off with frustration.

Edit: Dark Souls isn't on PC either, and I have a PS3 but that takes back seat... waaay back, like, a month back, haven't touched it in so long and I don't intend to start playing anytime soon.

I'm going to have to pass on both and save my money for Arkham City.
The choice between the two is difficult, however.
While Dark Souls may ultimately be the better game, I still think Rage would be better for me.
I tend to dislike games that are abusively difficult, BUT I haven't played Demon's Souls.

Rage feels so alone in this thread.

Difficulty is not something that draws me to a game, I've never enjoyed being frustrated and I long ago got my fill from N. Also hack and slash has never really been my thing, whereas I've really enjoyed all the gameplay footage I've seen of Rage.

I have to admit, these games are so far apart in audiences I'm surprised to see them compared (or at least talked about in the same thread)

Dark Souls.

Dark Souls has no online pass and half the content isn't chopped out for DLC.

Rage is looking for new ways to screw customers over. Especially the ones that don't line Bethesda's pockets.

Between these two, you should be getting Dark Souls on principle.
I agree with this sentiment. I'm trying to discourage everyone from getting Rage, but I can't really blame them for letting the hype get the better of them.

I'm not getting either, personally, but as said above, I'd shy away from Rage anyway.

Bah, some people just can't be discouraged. A guy who works at a Gamestop near me said that he was going to buy RAGE because it had Bethesda's name on it. I was like, 'You know that Bethesda isn't the developer, right?' and he said that he knew that, but didn't care. He'll buy anything with Bethesda's name on it. And since he works at Gamestop, he recommends it to everyone...including clueless parents looking for a game for their kids but have no idea what to get. Thus insuring more undeserved sales.

Oh, my rage at RAGE is showing.

If I were going to get one, I would get Dark Souls. I'm already buying enough games this fall so I'll probably pick up Dark Souls next spring or something.

I'm not going to buy either of them and I agree totally with this guy, hence QFT. Also, it'd probably be better to make sure some competition and niche games get the recognition they deserve rather than just playing a game that's almost exactly like every other game coming out this year.

Dark Souls, eventually. I'm still having words with Demons Souls. When I finish having words with it, then I'll probably have words with Dark Souls. Not nice words, ones not used around children.

Neither :D

But I am going to try and get Dark Souls around Christmas. I haven't played all of Demon Souls but I love it. Plus, I am pretty jaded by new IP these days...

I'm not into fantasy RPGs that much so I'd personally lean towards Rage. After all, it is made by the grand-daddy of the FPS genre. Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake are all produced by them. It's hard for them to not make a brilliant game.

If I were going to buy either, I would choose Dark Souls. I may even pick it up from a bargain bin a few years down the road.

Considering you buy the game new, what are you missing out on if you buy Rage?

OT: Rage looks fun, but they're two completely different games. If you want to buy one of them now, and want one for Christmas then I would buy the one you're least sure about, during Christmas you will have all the time in the world to play. Honestly I would go for Rage though. Though that's probably because Dark Souls is a console exclusive.

Demon souls was really fun, but mostly just because I had my friends to play it with me. If not for that the game wouldnt have been nearly as exciting.

Rage looks interesting but I was thinking Christmas as well.

If you dont have a buddy to play dark souls with, one with good patience preferably, then you might want to wait a bit.
It really is worth the wait to play it with friends.
