Please tell me we don't really have names for the camps now. Please tell me this is some sort of joke.

Either way, I'm on team "don't give a crap," and here I'll stay. Blizzard wants to remove the pose? Fine. Blizzard decides to bring it back? Fine.

Blizzard wants to give Tracer a lapdance victory pose? Fine.

Personally, I don't give a shit. It's Blizzard's game, so Blizzard can do whatever the fuck they want. They could've claimed they're removing it because they 'Hate that Wrex Brogan fuckhead quite immensely' and I still wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
See, I'd call BS on that. Because who could possibly hate that Wrex Brogan fuckhead? :p

I am sitting firmly in the "don't give a shit" camp. The controversy surrounding it is manufactured and pointless. Par the course these days, I'm afraid.

I don't care.

I did think the pose was silly, but for very different reasons. She looks as she's trying to check if there's toilet paper sticking out of her clothes.
That is silly. You'd think she'd check before she went out to fight in a deathmatch. Could you imagine how awkward it'd be if you were killed with toilet paper stuck to you?

It's a little silly considering her character, but I've seen much worse. I can see why people say it cheapens her character though, I won't deny that. But it's mostly in the silly-category than in the awful-category. It's dumb and I like that it's gone, but if it wouldn't be I'd just shrug my shoulders.

The entire controversy feels bloated anyway. Someone did a semi-serious, semi-trolling complaint regarding it. Blizzard thought it looked kinda dumb anyway so they removed it. That's all of it, I mean come on. There's not censorship, there's no crusade, there's nothing big here people.

I support it on the basis that Blizzard made the game and they said they wanted to. And that I don't think it's censorship...can I support the change AND not give a fuck about the change because its so utterly inconsequential? Because that's what I think. It's their right, but dear FUCK does it not really affect the game at all.

Don't blame her. She was preoccupied with the whole deathmatch thing. Atleast she remembered to check once she had a spare moment. Better late than never.

I don't really care but I still think it's a character design issue rather than a posing issue.

I dunno, it's pretty easy to do. I mean, he's got 'bro' right there in his name. Gotta be maximum douche to try and pull that off.

Plus he's not even in the Pub Club. 's just shameful that is. :p

Didn't care about the existence of the pose, don't care about the removal of the pose, wouldn't care if they added the pose back in.

If anyone ever gets curious as to why "click bait" is the primary form of "news delivery" in this industry and others, one need look no further than hot button issues full of dire import such as this one.

In the end I would say I care about the removal, but after I saw it spawn a Buttgate hastag which of course don't give a sh*t about anything, I give up. You can do whatever you want people. I don't care.
Just don't change the hairstyle of my waifu Zarya, you despicable people.

Well, you can't argue with that logic!

Honestly, I think #buttgate is the best part of this whole thing.

I thought gaming news had been largely reserved (well, comparatively) on this one. Maybe I've just missed it.

I don't know what gaming news you've been following. The one I see has an unhealthy preoccupation with butts. Are they being slapped or tickled? Can you see the butt? How many butts? Was a butt removed, or added? The public needs to know.

I am not saying it isn't funny as hell. Seeing Buttgate is only dedicated for Tracer's Ass, it make me question humanity.
In the meantime, there is a AssGate hastag. Thanks GOD is deticated for a big variety of asses.
In other words, couldn't they had found a better name to name this.......thing?

I find myself most dejected by the realization that the people 'swept up' in the nontroversy are fully aware of its manufactured origins, but don't care out of a desperation for any wave to ride, however rank with sewage that wave may be.
Without wishing to derail, people were passing around fake tweets that tried to frame a cultural critic celebrating a prominent figure's death even when they knew they were faked because it helped in spreading hate for her. Any ammo they can use in their cause will be used.

We need to blow buttgate wide open!!
You mean crack it right open, right? I mean, hindsight is 20/20, but still, how did you not catch that cheeky remark?

I don't know, my sample size my be limited by apathy. When I typed in other controversies and nontroversies into Google, I got more actual news hits. Hell, when I look for this specifically on Google News, #buttgate seems to have been used for multiple things and top search results are confusing.

Buttgate has apparently described controversies involving the Real Housewives, Kanye West, and Marc Jacobs. Not sure if any of them are more hilarious than this one, though.

Instead of sitting here snarking, we could be using our energy to devise a metric by which we could quantify and rank the various Buttgate controversies and determine which and how many are most essential to the perpetuation of our freedoms and way of life.

I didn't like the removal of the pose because the removal was baseless. The original request said that Tracer's personality doesn't support her striking a pose like this, when we don't have enough information of her personality to make that claim. Mere one-liner interactions in a combat situation does not constitute enough personality to fully judge a character. Especially when you consider that in combat, adrenaline and stress cause different reactions in people that might not fit their everyday lifestyle and normal personality.

Not to mention that the pose is a stock pose used by several characters in the game. And it completely mundane and such a none issue, that by removing the pose Blizzard created an issue where there was none to begin with. It was quickly removed as a knee-jerk response to appease people, and was not justified.

It's a pretty common thing you find with any type of True Believer, religious, political, or other. They're convinced that they're right and just, and that their enemies are liars who conspire to make it difficult for them to support their positions. Any lie which conforms to expectations then, is acceptable because of the a priori rightness of the cause. Sometimes though, it's a lot more cynical, and just a matter of bad faith.
While I don't disagree with and generally approve of the high salt levels here, it doesn't take a "True Believer" to suffer from confirmation bias. If nothing else, at least we have April Fools come around once a year so people have an opportunity to think critically about the shit they see and read.

It's true, you see this a lot in old WW2 and Vietnam photographs of the front. Full of adrenaline and the stress of battle, soldiers were constantly shooting their hip out and doing an over-the-shoulder butt pose. John McRae detailed it after his famous poem "In Flanders Fields" with his lesser known work, "Pop Dat Ass".

Oh my sweet summer child. This is Blizzard. "Knee Jerk" is by definition "a sudden involuntary reflex". Blizzard has never done anything "sudden" in the history of the company. This is the developer that trademarked "Soon" to mean "A number of years not to exceed 50".
