The pose was a bit cliche, uninspired and made me roll my eyes a bit but it was far from egregious. It's removal is a perfectly legitimate way to respond to feedback if the developer felt the criticism was valid.

This is one of the biggest non-troversies since... erm damn these things happen all the time but they really aren't that memorable... Oh yeah the lack of localisation for DOAX3, it's the worst one since that.

#buttgate!? No no no no, not again, no more -gates! I'm getting flashbacks to the start of gamergate, why does every little thing need to be a huge controversy these days?

I don't really care about the game at all though, this controversy is literally the only thing I know about the game. The pose doesn't really bother me though, I think the bigger problem is how her spandex is giving her a wedgie. It always bugs me in games how nearly every female character seems to have their outfit glued to their buttcrack, even when male characters can wear the same clothes and suddenly they aren't so form fitting.

Batman, Ryu Hyabusa, Solid Snake, Raiden, Deadpool, and Spider-man would all like words with you about their fabulous booties.

I agree. We need to unite and put a stop to this nonsense.

Can't say I care too deeply about it. I will say that its funny as fuck watching Blizzard faceplant into a controversy, when they tripped over themselves by removing the butt shot in order to (wait for it) avoid being dragged into a controversy!

Meanwhile, this is something from a PEGI 12 game that I am playing right now, and nobody gave a shit:

I learned something new today: according to a Dutch guy at another forum the dutch word for butt is 'kont'. I suggest dubbing this and all future ass-related controversies 'kontroversies'.

Good god. How desperate is this forum for controversy that it dedicates not one, not two, not three but FOUR concurrent threads adding up to 15 pages about a butt?
Four threads about not being able to see one butt when there's an internet of butts (and probably that butt too in fan-art presented in a significantly more risque manner).

To paraphrase WTFIWY 'there's plenty of people out there happy for you to see their butt, whats the obsession with the ones who aren't?'

In all seriousness as the gentlemen above have mentioned, 4 damn topics as of this topic guys....that really says alot. But if I had to pick one of the options it'd be the "Don't give a frag"

I mean honestly this whole situation seems annoyingly cooked up judging by how even though they KNOW this whole thing has exploded and turned in to quite a big deal for some reason, they still pretty much just ignore everything as of yet and don't tell us what's up with Tracer then.

There wasn't anything remotely "sexual" about the pose as far as I saw, it's the outfit that does it for people. I mean it usually always is the outfit. When I was playing Mass Effect 2 I thought it was Miranda herself entirely that was causing the sex appeal in the conversations but right after I put that full armor DLC costume on her she suddenly looked like she was competent enough in combat to take along, and all that sex appeal kinda just washed away. It also helped me focus better so that's an added bonus.

Similar to Tracer, that spandex wedgie is the only thing remotely sexual about that pose, or her in general in my opinion.Seriously, within a minute of hearing her voice my ears exploded, I mean she sounds fun and all but her voice also makes her sound like the kind of person I'd need hearing aids to properly talk to without my eardrums going on shark week. For a year.

As for the whole "Buttgate" thing. I think we're all just hoping this doesn't explode GamerGate style completely.

I swear to God it's like there's a new pisstaking contest like every time I think that everyone is relatively calm and we can all start enjoying things slightly more normally. But nope, someone, somewhere, somehow does something and the internet goes back to smelling like the urine flooded cesspool that it is.

While I may or may not buy Overwatch but I still can't stand against for the removal. People are so danm oversensitive these days. Also I'm fine if a male character does it.
Sure I can get the pose itself probably add fuel for Anita claim but still, plenty of games used that pose!

While I don't disagree with and generally approve of the high salt levels here, it doesn't take a "True Believer" to suffer from confirmation bias. If nothing else, at least we have April Fools come around once a year so people have an opportunity to think critically about the shit they see and read.
Indeed, we've pretty much evolved along the lines that a false positive is more beneficial, so our minds tend to favour them. Seeing patterns in noise isn't just for conspiracy theorists in poorly-written movies.

I try not to judge/assume what others want to do to butts! Some want to crack them, some want to blow them, I embrace your lifestyle choice! (even if I think you might need lots of chapstick if you're blowing butts)

But yes, I did notice the remark, and I hope this post has rectified any possible confusion about any assumptions made previously.
For a moment, I was worried you'd tell me to butt out, Not only am I cracking wise, I'm sort of back seat driving. Wouldn't want to be too much of a ass. Now I can put those fears behind me, though.

I just don't like their reasoning. The whole basis of "It doesn't fit her personality" is bullshit, because it does.
At that point, you might as well say you know their character better than they do. Because they disagree. It's their character and their game. You don't have to like their justification, but you can't reasonably say they're wrong.

Not just a butt, its the butt. Its a time-travelling butt, don't you know? Which great power comes great responsibility and all that jazz.
Tracer's butt was our last, best hope for freedom of speech. By the end of 2016, we knew it had failed. But in so doing, it became something greater. As the war expanded, it became our last, best hope.... For memes.

Including this one. It's still in this game for other characters.

I don't much care about it, but let's be fair about this the real reason they removed it is because it's a place-holder pose that several characters have and they were already planning to replace it at some point down the line, people forget that it's a beta and it makes sense that stuff like that would be subject to change until much later than in-game animations or balance.

I mean it's not like Blizz is against sexualizing the character otherwise she wouldn't have that skin-tight suit and Widowmaker still exists, so it's a non-issue, it's a typical change for a beta and nothing more.
Then all they had to do was say so.

You know, instead of making a big deal about her fantastic fanny.

Nah, if you were bothering me, I'd just tell you to leave by the back door. But, that is an issue I've passed without much issue. And....um....butts....yeah I'm out of witty anal puns, at least not without way more mental effort than this should require. xD I'm straining to come up with any others that would work.

You know what? You're right, I don't know the character better than Blizzard. Especially since they can change her personality at the drop of a hat if they wanted too.

However I can say that based on the personality we know about her from what we have been shown of her in-game and in cinematics. Tracers "over the shoulder" pose DOES fit her personality. Again, from what we know of her character right now...it fits.

They can change whatever they want, under whatever excuse they want. And they did. So that is really the end of it right?

However I will insist to the end that the excuse of some personality quirk wouldn't have Tracer striking that pose is utter nonsense.

Far be it from me to suggest that Blizzard should have done this from the beginning: put it to a vote. You're supposed to be getting fan feedback, not looking for a voice or two to justify decisions you wanted to make in the first place.

Myself, I'm not attached to the thing, but as someone tired of this always coming to controversy as much as anyone, I get that people aren't going to quietly sit back and let things they like be chipped away bit by bit for the few going "I'm offended" so in the name of peace, maybe those that [claim they] don't care should let the pervs have one and vilify the idea that a few "I'm offended" should overwrite a thousand "I love it"s.

I am sitting firmly in the "don't give a shit" camp. The controversy surrounding it is manufactured and pointless. Par the course these days, I'm afraid.
It's also really funny how the people who are "for" this "controversy" are actually doing the exact opposite of what they think they are doing. "CENSORSHIP!" they claim, while literally wanting to censor the other side. "FREEDOM OF DEVELOPER EXPRESSION!" they cry while berating Blizzard for exercising said freedom. "WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE POSE!" they would repeat over and over again like a mantra while pretty much manufacturing this "controversy" over it by expending far too much time and energy on it.

It's almost like "pot calling the kettle black" situation...only the pot just imagined a kettle being there in the first place. I don't know if there is an accurate saying for this in any language.

I think the reason that it is gone is stupid, but as someone who did not like the way the pose looked anyway, it means that they will have to replace it with a better pose, so that is cool.

If they aren't wrong, then they are doing a phenomenally bad job of showing us her personality. The "Alive" trailer makes her seem like the cocky type that taunts opponents, so why wouldn't she use that pose?

Well, I mean, you can protest all you want. You can not buy the game if it's meaningful to you. However, it's still their call. They can decide to ignore people who say that this is relevant to her character and so far, that's the way things are going.
