3 way tie between Delta Force, SAS, and Israeli Commandos.

All 3 are super badass

Why only the British SAS? The New Zealand SAS and Australian SAS Regimen are usually held in higher regard.

Hell the New Zealand SAS trains other special forces units.

The SAS. They train half the other special response units around the world. That and they do tend to get captives/missions sorted out with no loss of life

i gotta say that i support my home country (USA) but i gotta say imo Israeli commandos are probably the high ranking elite
considering they're trained in a country that is always in a state of war and that other countries send troops to train under them.

I'm going to say Russian Spetsnaz not for any historical or current reason but simply because Russians are crazy in general.

Plus, as it has been mentioned they train in Siberian Winter, sometimes naked. You can't get more bad ass/insane than that.

I'm going to go with the israeli special forces, they're batshit crazy and get given a lot of brand new tech for field testing.

Maybe the Danish Huntsmen Corps.
Where many special forces often boast how awesome they are, the Huntsmen try to remain unknown.
Their motto is "Plus Esse Quam Simultatur" or "More to be, than to seem", meaning that the soldier's capabilities do not have to be widely recognized or boasted, they are only more effective if unknown.

It takes about a year of training, in addition of the mandatory any soldier get, to join the corp.

Nothing else is really known about them, soo they could be the best... Or they could suck ass.

Only 1 death of a Huntsman have ever been officially reported.

Israel FTW! Seriously, most of Israel's exports are military tech. That's what we do.
These guys, because I vaguely remember hearing about them doing some pretty bad ass shit back in the 70s, though I don't know if they still are active.
They are still active. I think the operation you are referring to is this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Entebbe

Well Denmark has two of them, Frømændene and Jægerkorpset, which are basically our versions of the Navy SEALs and the SAS, except with viking blood!
you forgot the opklaringsbataljonen their whole job consists of going on suicide missions on short notice, because of this most of our casualties come from this division.

on a side note the frogmen dont even compare to the SEALs or the SAS. they have little or no recognizance training at all, and have never been used in proper military operations. ill grant you that their training is difficult and demanding, but they are hardly an elite force comparable with the even our own huntsman corps(jægerkorpset) which BTW are truly badass, and have trained with the SAS and the SEALs, as well as having been deployed in numerous engagements and spec ops.

OT i am going to give it to the SAS... because of modern warfare
That wasn't exactly my belief but if you say the frogmen arent as elite as I believed them to be, I have no real arguments against it, so I guess I don't really have any reason not to believe you (other than the fact that I'd still be scared shitless if one of them took offense).

British SAS.

Not to knock the Seals but they broke into a pensioners house and killed him. It's not a contest.

You're forgetting that the UKSF have many departments. SAS, SBS, SRR, X1, UKSFSG.
SAS are the "Airborne". The land based counter-terrorism unit. that specialises in air assaults.
SBS are the Navy unit, dealing with amphibious assaults and other things like that.
SRR are so bad ass, little is known about them. Apart from they are a recon regiment.
X1, has been denied by the British MoD of existing, which pretty much says they do. Nothing is known about them.
UKSFSG, is the Special forces support group, men from 1 PARA, The Parachute Regiment and from 3 Cdo Brigade, serve with SF units from time to time. Whilst not "SF" they are the most badass of each of their respective units.

In all, the British Special forces ARE the best. They are the originals and nearly all SF training courses in the world are based on SAS/SBS training and for the most part, will have UKSF instructors on hand.

Dude, when you get to the level most of these chaps operate on, this kind of dick measuring basically disappears. In a combined forces environment, if the British have a task that they think can be best handled by those well trained fellows in SEAL Team 6, they'll ask SEAL Team 6 to do it. If the Americans encounter a situation best handled by the arse kicking SAS or the SAS-R (Aus/NZ) then they'll hand it over and let the best expert for the job do their job.

As a mere mortal, to be counted among the ranks of these men would be as close to Godhood as I can imagine. S.A.S., S.A.S-R., Delta Force, SEAL Team 6.....Jesus I should be so lucky to be able to qualify as a member of the rank and file, never mind these guys.

Although, I would like to give a shout out to the Royal Australian Navy Clearance Diving Team, who are Underwater Mine Disposal experts....who occasionally moonlight as Australian versions of the Navy SEALs, and borrow their American brethern's tradition of 'Hell Week'.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clearance_Diving_Team_(RAN)

They also recieved the Meritorious Unit Commendation from the U.S. during Vietnam, and that doesn't come out of the bottom of a Weetbix packet.

Spartans. Not even joking if they had guns they would be the elite.
They wouldn't use guns ... they didn't even want to use bows and arrows because that was considered "Cowardly" ... the reason they got fucked over by the Thebans was because of this ... they ran into battle and pretty much got bullied by front line archers and surrendered 3 days later .. that was the beginning of the end for sparta.

Spetznaz.
Nazy Seals have 8 months training, and a 50% pass rate
Spetznaz have 5 years and a 10%pass rate and a 20% chance of being critically injured in training
It is practially a Phd in war
