Maybe you missed the part where this wasn't asking who would be involved, but who would likely be the ones to go at it first, triggering other nations involvement and starting a world war.

But since there are plenty of wars between two nations that don't lead to world war, wouldn't it be more appropriate to blame those taking sides?

It's not hard to point out how limited and presumptuous it is to ask this question and expect only 1 vs 1 answers, but to comtinue pushing this point, I would be a giant troll. teehee

I just can't imagine WWIII when the US has nuclear weapons. Sure, there will be small conflicts, but the big ones are forever off the table.

Also, I would have voted for EU versus the Balkan States. Why is the only European country the UK, and why in the world would they start a world war with Argentina? Is that a soccer thing or something?

30 years a go or so, we fought over the Falkland isles. The argentinians to this day want them to be part of their territories because of the oil thats in the ocean there.
Trouble is, the people who live there are happy under colonial rule, and the UK if nothing else, holds its territories if they want to be kept.
It has been hinted at in the past that they'd try again. Makes no odds, we hammered them the first time, can probably do it again.

that aside, i reckon it'll be china or russia that get arsey with some of their neighbors and america will decide it concerns them for some unapparent reason, escalating the vietnam way with advisors sent in to train ground forces.
in some respects it happening already, especially in twain where the us have just retro fitted most of the airforce their to bring them above the combat capabilities of their chinese counter parts. look further back when we have america trying to set up a balistic missile shield in europe and russia throwing their dummy out of the pram

It'll start off small, you know like Canada discontinuing the RCMP. Which will lead to the Sasquatches overrunning most of Canada by mid-July, at which point we'll either have to evacuate to Mexico or South America to save ourselves from the Sasquatch hoard. No doubt this will cause great tensions and small conflicts will spark as people try to get across the border and deal with drug cartels. To make matters worse a couple of internet geeks with too much free time will come up with a brilliant scheme to put bullet proof vests on the bears of North America and Europe. And because America has wasted all of their armor piercing rounds on the Sasquatches and Drug cartels, and European police forces don't even have armor piercing rounds. So now we will be faced with invincible bears who will no doubt be raping churches and burning the women. Finally it'll all boil over when Russia accidentally releases their Yeti's from Siberia.

I pray to God every night that Canada keeps the RCMP.

The US is already in a war with China. It's an ongoing conflict not on the battlefield, but in our economies and through the interwebs. The Chinese "Cyber" divisions have been going at it with us for years now, and our economic ties are a struggle in co-dependency.

None of the countries listed have enough conflict to start another world war, but I'll admit, it does seem like quite a few countries need to be knocked down a peg or two...
