Well for one it's always kinda interesting to me to see what new things they throw in....only to discard into the next game. But I think one reason I still like the Pokemon games is because well...they're lazy games. Wait wait, lemme explain.

Most Pokemon titles are largely simple RPGs, turn based too. So unlike other games I can pop it in, know where to go, what to do and so on and so forth. Clear easy progression. Feels good to see that level bar fill up, grab that gym badge, etc etc. It's a game you can pop into your handleheld, turn on an old movie or tv show, and lounge the rest of the day.

It's not hard or punishing like Dark Souls, or even has an interesting monster/battle system like SMT. But I just find it a fun little series to kill time with.

It's nice knowing something so gargantuan can have absolutely no impact on me whatsoever.
That's literally how I feel about Grand Theft Auto. It's kinda nice to have that one super popular game series that you can say "I've never played it before."

OT: It's because I have lots of fun with the games, it's just that simple really. I can understand that many people would find it odd that others like the games so much, but you could say that about anything.

As for X and Y, if I had a calendar I would be marking every day off in excitement for the game. It probably won't beat Black in terms of becoming my favorite Pokemon game(out of my sheer stubbornness), but I'm very hyped for it.

I'm getting the new Pokemon because I've been yearning for a 3D Pokemon game worthy of being a successor to the ones on Gamecube.

I mean, a 3D Pokemon game? On handhelds? With gyms and everything? Sign me up.

Also, Mega-evolutions and picking from two starter Pokemon are some of the biggest innovations the series has seen so far. Are they big innovations? No, not at all, but it's one more step to making the games more enjoyable. Plus, mega-evolutions add another realm of strategy to online battling. That is, if they're allowed.

Still, I can't wait. I've played every main series game (Excluding B/W2) as well as most of the spin-offs on DS, Gameboy, and Gamecube. I don't see myself ditching the series anytime soon. They're great games and probably the most fun you can have on a handheld.

For me I love the Pokemon games. I started by playing Pokemon Red back when I was little on a GameBoy color and since then I've gotten most main Pokemon game that has come out. The only ones I never got were Diamond, Black, and White 2 because the changes were so minimal when compared to the costs.

I'm personally getting Pokemon Y, but I will say that I'm not too keen of these "Mega Evolutions" at all. I'd like it if they were only being given to Pokemon that could use the stat boosts really, but from what I've heard they wanna give a Mega Evolution to all Pokemon over time, and I'm not a huge fan of that. Mainly because you're still gonna have the same problem that there was before, the Pokemon with the pseudo-Legendary stats get Mega Evolutions and then get used even more.

Yes I'm kinda miffed that Garchomp is getting a Mega Evolution because Garchomp doesn't f*cking need one!

Also, I just want there to be no more damned Fire/Fighting type final forms for the fire starting pokemon. It was awesome with Blazekin because then Swampert was also a Water/Ground type. But then come Generation IV and V we get the same type while water goes to having a Water/Steel type for Empoleon (honestly not one of my favorites), a Grass/Ground type for Torterra, and then back to just plain water type for Sarumot and a plain grass type for Serperior. But fire type just stayed with Fire/Fighting type, and it got boring. Plus I've not chosen a fire type in a Pokemon game since Gold/Silver/Crystal/Heart Gold/Soul Silver because none of the other generations have had a second form of a fire Pokemon that was this cute!

For the record I think Furrets are adorable as well. :3

I am not a fan of Pokemon because I appreciate a story with my gameplay. Yes, I understand how deep the gameplay of Pokemon can become but I'm tured off by the fact there's just no damn story to it.

That says "Fuck you" to Fighting types

Not to mention that it's a fucking sword!
Is that thing version specific? If so, I will totally change my current choice to get that one creature.

And yes, it's just because it's a floating sword with an eyeball. Also, that scarf-thing looks baller.

People getting sick of Pokemon? What madness is this?

Also, there looks to be a whole lot of innovations to Pokemon in the new X and Y games.
So, that's a good reason. X and Y should be pretty fresh.

That's how I feel about 90% of things.

OT:

Pokémon are fun enjoyable little mini-RPGs for me. They're the pinnacle of portable gaming for me. They're pretty much system sellers for me. The day I lose interest in Pokémon is the day I stop buying Nintendo.

I've never liked Pokemon, even going as far back as the first game. I just find them to be monumentally boring. Get a single Pokemon, beef it up like crazy, tons of cookie cutter and rock paper scissors combat. An insane encounter rate of boring Pokemon on the field. Eh, it just never did it for me. The concept of collecting monsters and training them had such promise too.

To my knowledge, Honedge is not version specific. It'll fit right in with my Skarmory, Bastiodon, Empoleon, Metagross and Scizor.

Well I mean I havent played one since the gameboy color, specifically for that reason. This one is the first one thats been in 3D (not like 3ds 3d but the not top down... you know what i mean) so it's probably the most different one that's come out in a while. Not to say it won't be pretty similar, but honestly you could have levied that criticism at any pokemon game before this one and it would have been much more true. Just seems like a weird time to draw the line if you haven't before this point. Personally I havent played one in years so I'm not nearly as tired of it, so I'll pick it up.

The last one I liked was Red on the GBC, and the newest one I own is one of the Platinum twins. I prefer my classic team to anything else, and the world is big enough in the GBC one as it is.
Honestly, I wouldn't turn down a copy if one was offered to me, but I'd rather stick with Red meself

Because I enjoy the games, and have in the last few years found great appreciation for the competitive side of the community. There's nothing in gaming as satisfying to me as planning out a team, breeding egg moves into the family, getting my natures bang on and EVing them to their optimal power.

And then going and stomping people with them.

As a casual player its tough to get into cause its so easy, take your op pokemon mash A a million times on whatever move is your go to and win. It gets very in depth when you try to get pokemon with various stats but i don't have the patience to do that. So for me ones enough. Though I do try various new ones on the emulators before i get bored in 15 min.

I will probably pick it up. Sure the core game is the same but there are enough improvements for me to justify a purchase. I have only played yellow, gold and black 2. Just got my 3ds this year. My main concern is difficulty. I remember yellow and gold really made you work for those gym badges. You had to prepare for fights and grind out levels. Pokemon black 2 was way to easy. I was beating gym leaders with pokemon several levels under theirs. It made the game kind of boring. If it turns out these are the same way they will probably be the last pokemon games I buy. At least give us some difficulty options.
Black 2 has a harder option for it just a fyi

Well, as much as I hate to be that person, there's pokemon fans being born every day every year, and the new pokemon games might be their first as previous games were made before they became consumers.

Personally I would get them if I had the cash. It'd be way easier if they'd just get some console releases. :p Oh well.

Anyhow, Pokemon's evolving. even having fallen off the pokemon radar but even I can recognize the evolution of the series. Gender select, time related events, new pokemon, new team options, enhanced graphics, and so forth.

There's the sense of exploration, too. I'm sure the regions are different.

Plot might be light, but I bet there's some here and there that's new?

There's reasons to invest in new pokemon games.
