Poll: Why the Hell would you buy the new Pokemon game?

Because I like collecting stuff. Not obsessed with it though. Probably why I can avoid the whole "OMG, there's like, a gajillion of them now with this new gen, I'll never catch'em all!" thing. Usually I just focus on the ones I like the most (and maybe put a little effort in getting their shiny version if I like the colors), and figure out how to make them an effective team. (the sword ghost and the new fire starter already have a spot.) I'll catch whatever ones I don't have as I'm going through the game, but I won't make an effort on getting every single one. I probably have 2/3 of the Pokemon throughout the series, and I'm cool with that.

I went from red to diamond and found my interest in the series waned over the years I didn't play it. Can't really pinpoint why, to be honest.

However, I remember hearing about a turn based strategy Pokemon game that looked interesting, anyone know anything about it?

Pokemon... is already turn-based? If not, I'm thinking you mean Pokemon Conquest. =P

OT- Why will I get it? Because I really love the multiplayer and the sense of adventure I get from playing them. It's a game that forces me to act like a kid and go on a adventure and take it like a kid, which is fresh for me in today's games.

I was really thinking about picking up the new X Pokemon up until today when I had a realization. How many games have there been? Have I played them all, well yes I have for the most part. Blue, Red, Yellow, Silver, Fire Red, Crystal, Soul Silver, Black, White 2.

Goodness that's a lot of Pokemon, and you know what? I'm sick of it. I guess I have just gotten over the nostalgia of it all but any pokemon game now feels like I've been there done that.

So why are you going to get the "new" pokemon game?

Well the answer is simple, I am not you. We have different tastes, I am looking forward to it. You could apply this to almost anything. Me and several other people know that Pokemon has added new mechanics to every single gen. Just because the game has stayed turn based, doesn't mean it is the same thing again and again. The story is usually more of the same crap, they could spice that up.

But why are people still buying new Pokemon games? That's because the world isn't running out of it's supply of little kids anytime soon.

If I were to buy it it would be the same reason I would buy, say, new booster packs from the next MTG card set. A major drive to the pokemon games really has been its competitive scene, which works much like a standard card game. Along with that, with the single player aspect of it, people also enjoy building strong teams, even if they don't really use them, and collecting the pokemon just to say they have them, which is also very much like a standard card game. I don't find pokemon gameplay to be that great, and dueling wise, it seems rather simple(though I know there's more depth, it just isn't by a giant amount in comparison to an actual card game). It's basically the JRPG equivalent of CoD.

I'm buying it because I've enjoyed every single Pokemon game and toy I've ever owned, and even I can recognize a pattern that blindingly obvious. It's probably the most consistently fun franchise I've ever played. I've been looking for a good enough excuse to buy a 3DS, and now I have it.

Rock Solid (albeit simple) RPG mechanics

Large variety of pokes leaves both ample room for imagination, and thus keeps even capturing creatures from past games fun.

The trade/battle system is one of the most balanced and impactful ways of social interaction I've encountered in gaming; easy friends through trade, easy enemies through battle (can be vice versa, almost unfortunatetly)

I have not played a pokemon games since the original. not because they're bad in any way (i would have no knowledge about this) but i'm ignorant about the new pokemon types and a creatures. i feel like if i picked up the game i would have to spend hours on a detailed pokemon site figuring out which pokemon does what, is what type, is weak to what and what the new powers are. this might sound dumb, but i just feel like that's a lot of work for me at this point in time

I played the original pokemon games waaaaay back when, and I have not been "bit" by the pokemon bug since. This new one looks like it could be fun so I will pick it up.

On the other hand, I am super wary of getting Animal Crossing: New Leaf, as I hear it is like crack

Okay rpg games in their own right, but also a license to milk and print money, especially with kids. Pokemon is Nintendo's secret weapon of sorts, transcending every console gen since the 90's. Always sells and hardly ever disappoints. Across games, anime, manga and much other merchandise, its kept their coffers full nicely. While I don't play the games myself, I can't fault the genius of Pokemon's overall design.

I can understand some being burnt out on Pokemon games as the series has been running for so long, however the true cunning is that in marketing Pokemon to kids at large, there's always someone that wants to buy it. Kids will always want what their friends have too.

Its okay to skip a Pokemon game or two, as much as a gamer might skip a Fifa or CoD game. There's other cool rpg games you can invest in if that's what you like, its just a matter of seeking them out.
