The wii has inferior hardware so all of its games are naturally inferior to comparisons on other platforms. The most fun you can have with a wii is when you have friends around but all other platforms are just as fun with friends. The wii relies on motion technology used on wii fit and wii play but those just make it a glorified treadmill. (Been improving your bmi and balance on wii sports?) This makes it an intersting purchase for people who don't want games. "Hey I can get fit and have something to do in parties." but they don't buy games so the wii has the lowest attach rate and devs don't want to spend on triple A titles for the wii.

This scares off everyone that isn't trying to release quick shovelware and gives the wii the stigma of being a shovelware machine. Which it is.

Ok i am honestly confused. While the Wii has some good exclusives, most are made by Nintendo with a couple made by 3rd party, but they cannot compare to the exclusives offered by other consoles.
Xbox 360: Crackdown, Fable, Gears of War, Halo, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, to name a few.
PS3: God of War, Heavy Rain, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, Uncharted, again for example.

also the lack of any real hardcore titles like Final Fantasy (on both the 360 and ps3 but not the Wii). The only good thing about the Wii is its backwards compatibility where you can play decent games sans crappy wiimote waggling. but the ps3 and 360 are also backwards compatible to some degree so it gets beaten there too,

and to be honest very few people have done motion controls right besides the nintendo made games. so that is another reason why they suck.

I love Nintendo too and it was my first video game love but you sir are just an unrelenting fanboy. to be honest the only games in my wii library are zelda and mario titles and wii sports and wii play. that should show you how good the games are for the wii.
Well, if we want to get a bit nit-picky, a few of those 360 games are available on PC.

Also, the Wii does have a Final Fantasy game: Crystal Chronicles. And Silent Hill: Shattered Memories comes out tomorrow. In addition, there are titles such as House of the Dead: Overkill, Dead Space: Extraction, de Blob, Boy and His Blob, Deadly Creatures, The Conduit, Little King's Story, Zack and Wiki, Boom Blox, Muramasa, LostWinds, NyxQuest, Mad World, Rabbids Go Home (before you start complaining 'casual', this isn't a minigame collection. It's a platformer, and a very good one) and Klonoa.

2010 is also looking very promising, with the releases of No More Heroes 2 (which so far seems to be exclusive), The Grinder, Gladiator AD, Red Steel 2, Monster Hunter Tri and Tatsunoko VS. Capcom.

There are many many games that are great that are only available on Wii, and quite a few of them are third-party.

Actually, the attatch rate for the Wii is more than that of the PS3. http://gamer.blorge.com/2008/04/27/xbox-360-leads-software-attach-rate-even-the-wii-beats-ps3/

The games are either too childish or remakes. And if they're on other consoles then there's no point in getting them for the Wii as they have worse graphics and horrible controls.

The following post is an opinion. Thanks.

FF:CC -> Just as terrible as the gamecube version; just as bad a slap in the face
DS:E -> Essentially a sub-par rip-off of Dead Space
HotD:O -> Fairly simplistic and pooring with unintuitive controls (like the entire system)
The Conduit -> Widely lauded as a pathetic rail shooter
SH:SM -> Considering it's a silent hill game, it might be worth looking into, but I can't say I've heard much good (or bad, admittedly) about it

Even owning a Wii, I've never heard of any of those other games, which leads me to believe they probably either suck or didn't receive any good media attention because nobody cared enough about them. In regards to the 2010 lineup, likewise. Actually, on second thought, I did hear about Red Steel 2, and if it is at all comparable to it's predecessor, it's not going to be much more than generic trash either.

Admittedly, I'm a hard-to-please gamer here (the majority of PS3/Xbox games by far are garbage as well) so this may just be me but the Wii stands out as the only console to spew out absolutely nothing worthwhile in it's entire life. Including Brawl, Mario Galaxy, et cetera not mentioned here.

In my experience, most of the proper hate comes from the imature teenagers and purile fratboys who mistakenly call themselves "hardcore".
I'm not too keen on the Wii myself, but I don't have any issue with others enjoying it, I just think it's not for me.

Casual gamers are people who probably wouldn't be gamers otherwise, so I fail to see why the Wii catering to them when there are other consoles for other gamers is such an issue.

The following post is an opinion. Thanks.

FF:CC -> Just as terrible as the gamecube version; just as bad a slap in the face I haven't played the GCN version, so you could be right.
DS:E -> Essentially a sub-par rip-off of Dead Space A game in the same series using some of the same elements while otherwise being completely different?! Say it isn't so!
HotD:O -> Fairly simplistic and pooring with unintuitive controls (like the entire system) It's point and shoot, it doesn't get any simpler than that. If you're talking about throwing grenades and such, use the nunchuk: it improves the experience greatly.
The Conduit -> Widely lauded as a pathetic rail shooter It isn't a rail-shooter. It's a normal FPS, and it actually was pretty well accepted by most review sites.
SH:SM -> Considering it's a silent hill game, it might be worth looking into, but I can't say I've heard much good (or bad, admittedly) about it

Actually, on second thought, I did hear about Red Steel 2, and if it is at all comparable to it's predecessor, it's not going to be much more than generic trash either.

And here's the problem with the third-party support on Wii: Nobody knows that these games exist. Despite all of them being critically lauded, the companies keep silent about their launches. There aren't any TV ads, hardly any magazine articles, and the only ad I saw for Extraction was a sidebar on IGN. Game companies: Advertise your Wii titles, otherwise people won't know how great they really are!

What part about being "hardcore" makes you superior? Why is there so much hate directed at people who game "casually"? Some people balance gaming with a broad variety of other hobbies as well as maintaining an active social life.

PEOPLE GAME FOR FUN. If they don't they should seriously reconsider their hobby. If somebody finds motion controls and games consisting of 50+ minigames enjoyable (which when with a group and intoxicated they are) why shouldn't they play a Wii?

If you are turned off by the control system, thats fine, but to claim that the Wii is worthless is ignorant. All claims that "there is nothing worth playing" are highly opinionated, different people enjoy different things.

Hardcore and Casual are just silly terms, what defines a hardcore gamer? Their platform of choice, their devotion and skill level or their gamer score?

I don't hate Wii, but it annoys me how some fanboys keep declaring it the unquestionable number one console of this gen. It might sell the best but beyond that...

It's just no good because it has no games. Yes, of course it's an exaggaration, but that is not to say there's not some truth to the statement. I'm sure you can list your favorite Wii games into a neat little top 10, but how many hyped games does it have a year? Now compare that to how many PS3 and 360 have.

Now, I don't usually buy the hype anyway, since this gen is pretty bad at hiding how shallow it is, but at least PS3 and Xbox 360 constantly have a lot of stuff going on for them. I haven't seen anything remotely interesting coming to Wii for months.
Believe me, I'd buy one if I had more reasons than Metroid Prime 3 and Twilight Princess, but there aren't any. Besides that the controller seems unneccessarily gimmicky for conventional games, I have nothing against Wii itself, but I just see no point in buying a console that has only two or three games that really interest me, all of them a few years old already, and still almost nothing worthwhile in the horizon.

It's a lot of bandwagon hatred by idiots who want to seem cool.

It's not a bad console and a lot of it's exclusives are pretty damn awesome in their own right. For a fun exercise, read through this thread and see how many sheep just quoted Yahtzee's opinions on the thing rather than have an opinion of their own.

[edit]Oh, and for the record.. I own a 360, a PS3 and a Wii. All have their merits, all have their flaws.

Alright, so the main reason I see people complaining about the Wii and saying it deserves the hate that comes to it is the library of games. But for every Modern Warfare and Dragon Age that comes out for the Xbox, there are about 50 games that are just as shitty as the third party games for the Wii. All consoles tend to suffer this issue, so the whole hatred of the Wii for this reason is pretty irrational.

Not saying the Wii doesn't have its weaknesses though.

I think people just really hate the Wii's success. I have a Wii, it only gets used once or twice a month, but when it does I have a lot of fun with it. I can also practice my golf swing in the winter time without putting holes in the ceiling.

I also got to re-live some of my childhood with downloads of Shining Force and River City Ransom.

Wii is a win in my book, I just wish I hadn't paid over $300 for mine because we don't use it all that much.

Ah right, hence the Metacritic score of 69% [http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/conduit?q=the%20conduit].

That's pretty backwards reasoning from yourself right there. The number of bad games either Wii, 360 or PS3 has is pretty irrelevant. It's a question of have many good and great games each console has, not the ratio of bad:good games.

I don't care how many more bad games Wii does than PS3 or 360, what puts turns me away from the console is that the lack of good ones.

69 is greater than 50, meaning that most people thought that it was decent. Plus, many of those reviews on the bottom of the spectrum are absolutely ridiculous: failing to mention the control customization, for example.

Yeah, there is a hatred that people have for the Wii. Some of it, I will admit, is undeserved. But it's so much fun to have a scapegoat for the world's problems. :D

Hah, where have you been living the past decade or two? 5 out of 10 is pretty much the lovest a game can get, and while 7 or even 8 is usually mediocre. Everyone knows this well already. It's been a subject of complain and jokes for a long time.

This is starting to reek of denial...
