Poll: Would You Rather Lose...

This is a rather heavy question, in a sense. It's probably going to make you evaluate your life in general and question your moral beliefs.

Disclaimers aside, I ask you:
Would you rather lose a member of your immediate family (i.e. parents, brothers/sisters, grandparents) or a close friend?

Please be sure to include an explanation for your answer.

Immediate family. I don't care much for them and I'd much prefer to keep a close friend.

It depends which friend and what immediate family member.
I am closer to some then others, so I can't choose when it is that vague.

For me It'd be Close friend, I've already lost one immediate family member. I don't think I could lose another.

Depends on the friend. If it is someone I am deeply in love with, then I'd choose the family member, otherwise I'd choose the friend. Honestly though, I am unable to create a preference for one or the other, since I want neither to die.

Close friend. I value the camaraderie in my family and I can always make new friends. It would still be terrible though.

.... I really don't want to think about losing either. If I HAD to choose, I'd say a family member because my family and I aren't very close, but my boyfriend just lost his sister-in-law, and even though I didn't know her at all it was pretty gut-wrenching to see him so broken up.

My close friends are practically the same as family, so it would be an extremely difficult decision. It really depends on the situation.

Close Friend. I don't care too much about my immediate family, but the effect of losing one would have on the others would be enough for me to choose a close friend instead. It would be much easier to deal with in the long term.
