For genetic diseases, sure. I have none buy poor eyesight so I am not sure I would bother, but if I had genes coding for Huntington I would jump at the opportunity since that would mean I would get it for sure and there's a 50% chance my kids would get it too.

I'd like to fix my eyesight, remove any possibility of getting diabetes (thanks dad), beef up the chemicals that remove bad cholesterol from my blood, maybe grow in that fourth wisdom tooth that never showed up, annnnd maybe give myself camo skin like an octopus.

I'd use it to fix any genetic defects I have, but I wouldn't go so far as to change my eye-color or make myself a freak. Especially if it were to pass on to my children. I'd hate to have to explain to my children why they were born freaks just because I thought it'd be fun.

I would change nothing about myself because
1) I am awesome
2) Trans-humanism is not my thing, whats up GATTACA

I'm built well, so I don't need no body mods. But I have no friggin stamina anymore thanks to cigs (heed ye, children and non-smokers!).
I don't know if you still smoke or not, but quitting will let you regain some of your stamina. Your lungs will still be fubar, but the nicotine in cigarettes binds itself to the same receptor cites on red blood cells that oxygen binds itself to, which is one of the reasons smokers will give a false reading on a pulse ox test. What that means for you is that about 10-15%(for an average smoker) of your RBCs are bound to nicotine and not oxygen which means your body is getting less oxygen. If you quit smoking, your body will be able to filter out the nicotine; and after awhile and you will have a noticeably larger amount of energy than you used to have.

we don't have the genetic code for cat or snake eyes.
actually, it is possible that we already do.

also, splicing is possible.
Thank you for the articles, its helps to prove its quite possible that we have more animal features locked into our DNA.

I also like to point out that 50% of the genes that are in a Banana's DNA are also in Human DNA.

I'd be a little taller, shorter face, shorter nose, super-straight teeth (my teeth are actually pretty good now...I'm just really anal when it comes to...oral? o.o), remove whatever gene it is that makes men grow an abundance of hair around their arse, and I'd also like to put in some unique little 'mark' that any later members of my family would have - like a streak of different-coloured hair, or a unique birthmark. Weirdly, a straighter penis...I don't understand this curve business, no matter how slight.

Fixing my family's short-sightedness, likelihood of developing cancer, and chances of having issues with their thyroid would also be nice, if we're not going purely for the cosmetic.

While I do support genetic modification, I have never supported it's use for aesthetics, we only know so much about genes and how they affect us, so I think we should just keep it to curing genetic disorders and doing stuff with fruits and vegetables

I'm pretty damn sure that changing your own DNA is impossible.... changing your kids though :p
If I could change my genes: perfect 20/20 vision, or better. No asthma, faster muscle build, and maybe some sci fi stuff if possible! :D

If there was something I didn't like about my body, I would definately use it.

But I feel fine the way I am, so I guess not. I would not want to use it for vain conditions.

thanks for this article. this cool image was in it too:

Humans and mice are closer related than you thought:

EDIT: On a side note, the girl pic in the OP is supposed to be a werewolf.

I'd rather not be a human Guinea pig. Also, who the hell will hire someone with cat eyes that glow red and elven ears?

This shit is permanent, make your decisions wisely.

Also, what are your thoughts on Genetic Manipulation? what do you know about it, is it possible, what are the limits, etc? 'cause i really want to learn more.
Perfectly acceptable to be used, Its mainly introduced through either an ecoli virus with the gene implanted, electricution of cells to insert a gene, or shooting gold pellets inside of the cells.

All three known methods to genetically alter something are very annoying, and very low-percent of working.

Personally, yes. My family has a history of poor vision so I'd get genetic manipulation to improve myself, and my future generation's eyesight to 20/15. instead of 20/40

Yeah... I don't give a damn about cosmetic changes, but I'll take a blanket disease cure plus a super-soldier package.

The reason species can't interbreed is chromosone counts, which would not apply to genetic modification. You would even be able to pass the new traits down if you had the mods applied to your gametes as well.
Some species can interbreed, and there are widely documented accounts of it. Chromosomal differences are particularly important in producing seedless grapes, but aren't the end all be all determining factor. There are a host of other factors to take into account. Have sperm and egg joining proteins diverged too far to recognize each other? Are the chromosomes, even if of the same number, homologous enough to pair up during meiosis?
