If they kept it to themselves and didnt impose it on regular players(my friend was invited to a game where he got reset back to lv 1 but kept his prestige)
I'd pretty much expect it on PC, but i don't think it has a place on consoles

When I hear "modding" I think of a good thing.
HL2 mods, skins, and a devout fanbase creating more content for other fans to enjoy.

So I love that modding.

I would call what you described as hacking. And I. Hate. People. Who. Hack.

Hacking I don't care about, because non-offline multiplayer can go fuck itself. But actual modding has given me some of the best experiences of my gaming... career? Hobby, I guess. To give it a name: Dear Esther. Even better than Half-Life 2 itself, methinks.

Hacking is not Modding... Hacking is used by assholes who need to cheat to do well in online games, modding is an expansion of the original game used for one's personal enjoyment.

Don't start calling 'hacking', 'modding'. They have been separated years ago for good reason. Dictionary definitions of these terms mean fuck all in gaming slang.
That's the jist of it.

I may or may not have just tweeted:

Dear world: Words can be redefined by usage. Origins of a word often place no part in it's current meaning. Get over it.

Yeah, I find it a lot.

Hackers/sploiters change code or abuse code weaknesses to "cheat" or unlevel the playing field, whereas Modders create content, often including new games (Team Fortress, Red Orchestra, Counter Strike, etc etc etc)

Well that was an unexpected definition of modding. I thought it was going to be about stuff like source mods or StarCraft scenarios, or about mod chips in consoles to play backups/pirated/import games. I don't play online games very often, so stuff like that doesn't affect me.

I don't really understand this thread, I've played many counter-strike (Prison-Break, Gungame), Half-Life (Gmod, Pirate Vikings and Knights) and Unreal Tournament mods (Strangelove, Monsterhunt, Bunnyhop) and they are all fantastic! Why would anyone select 'Yeah. It pisses me off?'

Do mods like pirates, vikings, and knights really piss them off? Really, what the hell?
The OP is quite misleadingly using the term "modding" when talking about cheating in online games. S/he's not talking about actual mods, like the ones you mentioned.

But yeah, everyone obviously hates cheaters..

Modding and Hacking are White Hat and Black Hat. Quite frankly you've picked the wrong hat.

I've never really cared about modding. Never really got into the practice of downloading and installing mods to change my gameplay experience, just never really saw it as an necessity or worth the time it would take me to make sure everything was working.

Is this modding as in making a game better (etc.), or modding as in cheating?

Certain mods that dont effect me directly are fine by me (talking strictly CoD MW2). Like name modding. Things like controller mods and aimbots are straight up cheating. And 10th prestige and titles/emblems? *sigh*....Whats the point of having them if you didnt EARN them?! Its like stealing a trophy for a running marathon, yeah you have a big shiny thing to have in your living room and show off to your friends, but there's no honor. I actually had a private chat with one of these habitual modders. He was trying to convince me to join a modded lobby and I told him my statemnet from above...

Me:"...and its not like im afraid of getting caught or anything, its just the principle of it, you know."

Modder:"Principle....what the fuck are you talking about 'principle'?! Psh!."

...granted this kid was 13-ish.
