Portal 2 Screens Feature Return of a Cubic Companion

The whole companion cube thing was a joke, some got it some didn't...

Portal 2 will feature a new karma system all based around how you treat your new companion cube. If you kill it you will get the bad ending and no cake, but if you do succed in protecting it you will get your own bonafide cookie and cake dispenser, thereby dissolving the lie.

You remember when Yahtzee points out how using a Portal reference at this point is kind of like a bloody ten minute fart?

Not even the original game and developer are exempt from this rule. I don't see why people let stuff like this off just because it's Valve. Using an internet meme now three years old is not the way of progress. I wouldn't be surprised if they continued the cake joke either, and we all know how funny that isn't.

Seriously, the more I hear about this game the more I am convinced it can't be good, and I'm almost looking forward to the fanboy rage when they realise that it will never live up to their expectations.

QFT. I remember all the companion cube love before I got Portal. When I did finally pick it up I played through it and after the one (count 'em 1!) level featuring the companion cube I was like "Wait... did I miss something?"

Funny thing, I stopped caring about graphics right after playing HL2. I wouldn't have minded the slightest if they used the 5-year-old engine (with no updates) now. Except for maybe making it compatible for DirectX 10. The Source engine is here to stay...

Just so you know, the Portal dev team has promised that they're not going to bring back any reference of a certain cake. Coulton is also writing up a new song and has promised not to bring back 'Still Alive'. Apparently they're even more tired of the memes than you are...

I'm pretty sure valve said that the cake joke is not going to be used.
