Oh no! Now you'll tell me they changed the Windows blue screen to another colour! Noooo, that was a staple of Windows design for years! I just had one a few days ago for no discernible reason, and I shed tears of melancholic joy saying to myself, "Please, Microsoft, don't ever change this."

Was that a joke? If so, I'm not laughing.
Ah well, I suppose I could've done better. Twas just a try to transfer the same logic to a completely unrelated subject.

I wasn't saying it wasn't funny, I'm just a little offended by how stupid most of the world thinks the U.S. government is. Yes, we did have Bush for eight years, but that doesn't mean all of our presidents are dumber than dirt, and people do make dumb choices about several things in politics, but so does every other country.

To bad it still scratches discs :(
Only if you're silly enough to try and move it when its spinning. Hardly a problem unless you plan on playing on a trampoline.

OT: The problem that caused the red lights was fixed apparently so it doesnt matter what colour they are.
Actually there is always a chance of it happening, and when you live in a house with animals even the slightest tap can send a disc to it's death...
Hmm maybe use a tv stand and keep the console flat then?

Haha! Brilliant. This gives me a great idea!

Come one, come all! I have the foolproof way to stop heart attacks! Just come to my one stop roadside shop and I remove that pesky beater for ya! This heart removal comes with a money back guarantee that you will never be struck by a heart attack after my upgrade!

In other news, Microsoft has finally created a product that will last as long as you hope it will.

Introducing the Microsoft Wooden Block set!

Seriously though, there has got to be more to this than it sounds like. This is a bit of a silly way to combat the phrase RROD.

I do hope the new 360 is more stable than my previous 4, since my Halo Xbox is starting to make the heavy breathing sounds that mean it's on its way out. Since I just lost my PS3 to the YLOD and had to operate on it to get my game out, I am not ready to dish out another $300 to replace a system. I need a few months in between system breakdowns.

Sorry mate.
Because, obviously, that picture is not doctored or tailored to resemble a predicted outcome at all.

OP: Microsoft has stated that the RROD is a thing of the past, but the problem still persists in the newer versions. (Albeit at a significantly lower rate.) The 360 slims will have a new way to tell the user that their device has become inoperable.

Well, as a safety precaution, I'm never playing with three people. Only one/two/four players for me!
Oh wait, I have a PS3, not my problem!

Well, since the survivors of this would be the best people to have breakfast with, and able to survive losing all their blood, yeah, they would be immortal.

So... they didn't eliminate the problem, just tried to cover it up with a new color?

Thats like covering large cracks in a building with paint.
snip

It's how they do it in China.

OP: So now we can call it GROD? I think that sounds like one big mofo with a club used to beat his enemies!
Pay no attention to the hill side going GROD. Repeat, pay no attention to the hillside going GROD. Or fake RROD. Or failing. Now, who wants to see the Xbox manufacturer who STOLE OUR IDEA OF COVERING FLAWS WITH BRIGHT COLORS!

... then having to install every game like you have to with the PS3.
Urm, what? It's a few games, not all games on the PS3.

On topic. They release a brand spanking new slim dinted console with the exact same problem, although probably less likely to happen? Is thou shitting me? Why not find out how to 99.9% eliminate the problem THEN release the console, seems to be the best idea.
Saying you where forced to install every game is an exaggeration, but the option to install the games exists to speed up the loading times, you have to install them with some games but it is recommended with many more, and yes not all the games have the feature. It's not a necessary with the smaller games. Having had the opportunity to try Fallout 3 on the PS3, the 360, and the PC I must say that it does play a bit nicer on the PS3 but the loading times are hell.

Edit: Oh and before they released this version, they already had significantly reduced the failure rates in the consoles. This should reduce it to pretty much nill.

You can't stop a hardware fail, it's inevitable. Every device can break, just depends on the conditions.

So to prevent the Red Ring of Death... Microsoft's solution is to pick another color?

So the new 360 will give us the GREEN Ring of Death?

I don't know what to say except.....

Maybe it's just me, but did anyone think that maybe they could just have the green lights flash? Like 3 green rings that start flashing over and over to indicate a problem?
Yes, it is a large and massively stupid oversight to not put a different colored light to show a fault in the system, but I'm sure Microsoft has a way to show your console is having technical difficulties.

The Time of RROD is NO LONGER!

<Applauses worldwide, tickertape flutters through the streets of every major city ... replaced by fireworks that mark the Heavens in nations experiencing nightfall>

Prepare for the *NEW* Era of GROD!!

<Applauses flicker to nothing ... collective sighs from the unimpressed masses as they infiltrate their domiciles once more with bitter tears streaming their faces>

So let me get this straight...they are eliminating the red ring of death, but not the problems that turned on the red ring of death. That is stupid. I don't see how that's an improvement. It's really quite the opposite. The Red Ring of Death helped easily diagnose problems on the XBox360. Now you're just gonna have to guess.

I'll pick the news article [http://consumerist.com/2010/06/microsoft-took-red-ring-out-of-redesigned-xbox-to-prevent-red-ring-of-death.html] the OP cited, thanks. The pic was a joke obviously.

Urge... to go postal... rising!

Seriously, why all the hate for America? Is it because we kicked the United Kingdom's ass when we where still forming a country? Is it because we had nukes and threatened Russia? Is it because we helped in WWII and want some of the credit for the thousands we lost to the Germans and Japanese? Or is it just normal old Xenophobia?

That's hilarious, but still, I'm sure it has lower hardware failure rates.

Even if it doesn't, the 250g HDD and built in Wireless make it an unbelievable price drop in the 360.

So even if it has the same failure rates (I doubt it does), I still have to applaud Microsoft on what is basically a $200 price drop.

Yeah, they're just trying to eliminate the RRoD from history so all the casual gamers will buy one. 'Cause right now, the console is forever linked to the Three Red Lights. I wonder how it'll communicate a hardware failure now. Maybe it'll just skip the middleman and explode right there. I mean, what's better than an explosion to alert you to a problem?
