Well it just shows how unstable PSN is
This is the first time since the PS3 came out where the network's been down for any substantial length of time, apart from a few hours here and there for scheduled maintenance.

I'd say that's pretty stable.

Now you could argue that it should have been more robust against external attack, if something like this can take it down for days, but that's a different subject ;)

and that's why i pay for xbox live. they tell you about maintenance and it usually doesn't affect the online aspect. £40 a year for a reliable service that to my knowledge hasn't been taken out like this in it's 6 year run. you pay for what you get at the end of the day.

However, that doesn't mean that a similar group - or a splinter branch of Anonymous - couldn't be doing the same in its absence.
Or Geohot and hes baby soul fueled death machine. /sarcasm

You know, Anonymous cant have splintered branches working without its knowledge, because then they are separeted from the mass and are therefore not part of the hivemind. Same thing with that I cant just burn houses by myself or with group of friends and say (the) anonymous did it because I visit 4chan daily.

What could happen thought, is that if they did agree with my cause and my claim of being anonymous, they might allow to put anonymous watermark on my actions and therefore make it part of anonymous history. Otherwise they would just make me an namefag, so whenever someone tries to argue that anon has burned houses, they could just point out that it wasnt anon but that "pyrofaggot" etc.

And before anyone starts, they cant keep secrets. So no secret anonymous branches either. The whole point of their power is that they spread every information among "themselfs" aka the whole fucking internet.

And they did not point fingers at Anonymous, they simply stated it might have been hacked, or it might be a maintenance problem.
They did not point at Anonymous, yes. But many others in this thread do.
So, what would be next - "I've disconnected! Anon did this!"?

I thought Anonymous leaves their "calling card" everytime. Isn't it why they do anything in first place - just to leave the card?

I swear last time this happened it turned out it was the internal clock...don't overlook the possibility that this is just Sony being a bit dopey.

Anonymous isn't lead by anybody, and they don't have a direct goal. There is no splinter group or anything. Any action taken by any member is an act of Anon. They're anarchists, and they used to like it that way. If Anonymous ever puts out a statement saying they're against something or that they won't do something, that's just one dude making a decision. Everyone has the personal option to either listen or not.
This.

Come on already. It´s not like Portal isn´t fun on Steam, control wise it´s better, but my Laptop just doesn´t have the power to make it look as good.

I... kinda hope Anonymous is behind it. At least I'd have a clear cut target to HATE for interrupting my game play.

But i was thinking of the irony of the supposed hierarchical classes of players (copied to the xboxlive system), that when they're in trouble, we're all sinking by the same service in the end.
Compare it to the people that bought 1st class tickets when boarding the Titanic...
Well the first class women did get 1st dibs on the (never gonna be enough for everyone anyway)lifeboats and you know first class before the crash but it stopped with everyone else's ride at the same time.
i was never there so i couldn't agree or deny it.

Or! *gasp* Could it just mean that Anons are a bunch of grudge-carrying, self entitled dicks with nothing better to do than be a giant pain in the ass? I realize I shouldn't judge before the evidence is laid out, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's who IS behind this. Seems like a targeted attack is the only contingency ye olde Sony HQ wouldn't have planned for.

I dont think annon actually manage to knock out the PSN when they attacked it and they claimed that Sony is the target and not the consumer base. From what i have read they made he service shaky but didnt bring it down.

As for Sony loosing PSN over North America, Asia and Europe maybe it is an inside job or a false flag attack to blame Annon or it could be the Chinese Government or CIA or KGB or NSA or SHIELD one never knows these days... : )

While, Anonymous certainly stepped in it. Not only do they bungle their attacks by hurting users instead of Sony, but they hand Sony an automatic scapegoat for future outages.
Sony, have clearly demonstrated, that they hurt their own users.
Have they clearly demonstrated that they attack their own servers? What exactly would they stand to gain by doing this?
1. Removing backwards compatibility from PS3
2. PS3 and games pricing in EU... You pay more for the hardware and are behind on game releases.
3. Installing root kits onto user's PCs
4. Sony fuck up PSN for the pre-slim PS3s
5. Sony dropping Linux on PS3

Apart from that, no they are AMAZING!!!1111wda
Yeah, but what does this have to do with THIS situation? So they took down the PSN because they just hate users and are evil and apparently they're a captain planet villain? Criticisms really should rely on logic not just "They're a corporation and they're evil and hate linux!"
