There are already MMOs specifically designed for the purpose of erotic role-play but should it be allowed in games like WOW, yea sure...
As long as it doesn't result in harassment of avatars, i.e. roll for grapple check, like in second life a while back.
But the more important option I think is not in the poll; should people really be encouraged to behave in this way, I'm not sure it is psychologically healthy...

Yes in private tells. If you go in there knowing what to expect then there really isnt any harm of it being there, they just need to set up signs first.

I voted "Yes, between consenting adults" (although I feel I should have voted for the "in private" option). I don't think there's anything wrong with it, personally, as long as it's kept in private and not affecting anyone. Who is being harmed if one person is in (using WoW), Kalimdor questing and the other is waiting for PvP in Dalaran, and they're having a bit of fun over whisper? No one's bothered by it, no one is being exposed to it.

Even then, if it's two people sat next to each other in the "obvious" way but carrying it out over whisper or a private channel, how is it hurting anyone? They're not exposing you to what they're doing, you've just taken 2 and 2 and gotten 4.

I don't agree with people "doing it" (pun not intended) in public channels, I think that's inconsiderate and rude, but if it's kept private then just what is the issue?

For me this isn't a "children shouldn't hear it". It's more of a "no one WANTS to hear it", so I selected to keep it in private tells. Obviously, if it's not between two consenting people, the other person is going to be reported for sexual harassment anyway.

I'm not a huge MMO player, but I think if it's in private, there isn't anything wrong with it.

It just needs its own server, saves time and lets people do whatever freaky shit they want.

I don't play MMOGs, but I still have yet to see a game where the sexuality and other stuff (like sex scenes) had to be in the game.

I voted ' yes but only in private tells', but really, if you and another player are getting urges, can you not take it somewhere else? To a messenger or such where you have voice options and proper chat, where one slip won't expose you to your entire guild/ all of Orgrimmar as 'ooh a bit pervy'?

As long as both involved parties consent to it, and it's kept away from frequently visited, places i don't see a problem. Private chats/whispers/party chat preferred however if one can find a desolate spot, be my guest.

The issue with WoW was that Goldshire, almost on every RP server was just a hive of 'cyb0ring' teenagers in most crude and pathetic way, often with no regards to anyone around, and with low level characters running naked in circles or dancing on top of tables. There was no ERP there and most certainly no RP going on. It was more like some sex-oriented chat channel on IRC or website.

With something like that, observation is involvement. So Mature RPing in public is involving everyone around you without their consent. Sending illicit whispers to other players that you don't know is also non-consensual.
Okay that makes sense. Although sending whispers is less role playing and more plain old harassment.

Let consenting adults do what they want. If this bugs some, just create an "mature" shard and let the saddos... err "sexual RPGers" do their thing there.
Then also create a "kiddie" shard where everything is filtered out.

Side-note: really wish there was another term than "mature" for porn. The two terms ought not be treated as synonymous.
Except then pervs would totally haunt the kiddie shard...*shudder*

But I think the idea of a..."mature" (and you're right, that's a lame term) only shard is a great idea. Anything goes, non-patrolled, let folks let their freak flag fly...just warn the hell out of anyone before they join that they're in for an eyeful.

It's 100% safe sex. I encourage it even for people who aren't 18. They are going to mess around anyways, why not let them do something that cant hurt them physically.

I didn't vote, because I did not feel any of the options encapsulated my opinion.

I think that mature roleplay should be allowed, but on separate servers dedicated to or set aside for that sort of thing. It is unacceptable that in a game for people of many ages that children might be exposed to adult content, something like running across a link to a porn website on a study site. I can understand the parents' outrage. But it is also not fair that adults should have to monitor and censor all their actions for fear of children seeing or hearing something inappropriate.

I don't really see much of a need for it in MMOs, so no, it doesn't need to be there.

Yes. If it's based on violence/ vulgar then it can be public provided everyone has the option of filtering it. If it's sexual then it should be kept in a privet tell out of decency...but since this is the internet, it should at least be someplace with little traffic if not in a privet tell...This is, of course, where the 'ignore' option should come into play as I'm sure that's what was in mind when it was created.

As I see it, it already exists. I mean have you SEEN Second Life?! It's freaking insane! And I mean in a bad way. It is so easy for a little kid to be exposed to that kinda stuff but excluding a game like Second Life I don't really have a problem with something like that mostly because I don't really play them that much.

Otherwise I think it should be private atleast.
