But in public you can't not be, it's open, pretty much by definition.
You go outside to a public place and you're subjected to whatever the other people there are doing. If they do something you dislike then that's your problem, not theirs.

Let 'em, but do it in private tells. Most players don't want anything to do with it, so why should they be exposed to it.

If you're going to mature roleplay (which for me = cybering) keep it in tells, please.

Uh well I guess I really don't know how to answer with those options so I clicked private tells. As has been suggested there should be an outlet or people will continue doing it where they're not supposed to (well less people will if there's a legit outlet). I think exclusive Adult only servers (has to be proved either at purchase or at a location once you're 'of age') or Adult only games are a good option. And yea definitely let them know what they're in for...

Why the heck would someone WANT to do that?! Isn't that a little bit (or quite a bit) weird considering a lot of males use female avatars in that game?
I guess some people are so deprived and perverted that they'll do anything.
Urgh. People with no life...

Let consenting adults do what they want. If this bugs some, just create an "mature" shard and let the saddos... err "sexual RPGers" do their thing there.
Then also create a "kiddie" shard where everything is filtered out.

Side-note: really wish there was another term than "mature" for porn. The two terms ought not be treated as synonymous.
Except then pervs would totally haunt the kiddie shard...*shudder*

But I think the idea of a..."mature" (and you're right, that's a lame term) only shard is a great idea. Anything goes, non-patrolled, let folks let their freak flag fly...just warn the hell out of anyone before they join that they're in for an eyeful.
I am all for a "anything goes" server with plenty of warnings to prevent children and sensitive adults from being exposed.

Since it isn't apparently all that difficult to have a private server for such activity, why run the risk of it on a public server? If you are into orc-elf erotic situations, then take it out of the public eye. Start your own server and do your business there instead of possibly letting someone who wants nothing to do with what you are up to be subjected to your private activities.

If kids come across a bunch of other players standing around in their underwear, they are going to be curious about what everyone is doing. If no one is talking openly, the kid is just going to guess that people are just screwing off and he might join in, thinking it is funny for a bunch of people to be standing around in their underwear and take his off, only to get a private tell from someone trying to come on to him. So this is acceptable behavior because the kid should have known better?

If you want to act out something that isn't intended within the game, don't do it in public, regardless of whether you are trying to do it privately. People will screw up at some point and accidentally let their conversation run over into public space, and no one should be subject to that. There are plenty of other games to play if you just want to talk dirty with other people, don't do that crap in a place where there are other players of different ages that could become affected by that behavior.

Yes, between two consenting adults.
Yes, but only in private tells.

I've dabbled in the likes (in very small doses) on a small MMORPG a few years ago. It was strictly roleplay though; through private messages and the game's mail system. So really, I feel the first two answers are acceptable.

That's a toughie. On the one hand, it only has a 12+ rating, and the content therein should be suitable for people of that age. On the other, they were only doing what was possible within the game's design, and last I checked prancing around in your digital underwear (while odd) wasn't an overly raunchy thing, especially if the person doing said prancing has hooves or glowing eyes.

Well I voted "No, it is a public place and we shouldn't be subjected to that." (even though I don't play MMOs), but my actual answer would be only if it's a mature adult themed MMO.

no because most of this roleplay would go far, if unchecked. And it would be distasteful for the most part too, imho

OT: Don't show it to anyone who doesn't want to see it and that's fine.

There is. "Porn". Acts of intimacy only becomes porn when there's an outside observer and a third party is intended to watch.

True, they're not. Some people just have an easier time putting "mature" instead of "intimate" or "sexual". Maybe they feel they maintain their moral high ground in doing so, maybe they want to keep objectivity, or maybe they're just too embarrassed to say "sex". So while they may feel they are removing themselves from what they're discussing or in doing so they feel safer discussing it, they instead use a term that can apply to forms of violence and drug use as well as sex. So it doesn't make sense to me to be using an umbrella term like "mature/adult content" when you are specifically talking about sexual content.

Since WoW is such a good example: They have regional chat channels restricted by area, tells restricted by recipient, localized emotes, say and world-wide guild chat, how about a localized emote channel that can only be seen by those who flag themselves for it?

My opinion on this mostly boils down to: Blizzard can do with it whatever they like. If they wish to allow it, everyone else should stfu about it, just like if they wanted to ban it. It's their game, thus they should retain control over the limits on player action.

Maybe I can put my Ballistics Control System on your Raven ;)

Um... I don't really care. Public mature roleplay is fine with me because I can ignore it.
You have room for my cargo container?

OT: Its fine with me as long as you keep it to yourself.

Hey, I don't have a probolem with that kind of roleplaying but you would have to put it in certain special servers that are what...age gated? No, kids can just lie about their age.....pay for it with a credit card? No, you could steal those.....hmmm whats some other ways to guard an adult roleplaying server?
