Really? They haven't made a good game since Quake.
They've hardly made any games since Quake 3.

I'll generally disregard Doom 3, it wasn't terrible but I'd much rather play Doom 1 or 2 any day.

I have a lot of confidence in Id, I recently bought Wolfenstien 3D, Doom 1, Doom 2 and Quake Live from XBLA. I love them all.

I trust them with a new IP, especially something as expansive as this.
Look at those games, I mean, how many of them came out during this century? Id games are just tech demos at this point, they make far more off of licensing their tech than they do by selling good games.

Something I think they should have added in that video, be nice in the emails. If they get a ton of douche emails, it won't help anything.

Personally, I've been excited about this game since 2007, then I see it has a $60 price tag on PC. I'm not buying it unless they can, in some way, justify the price increase for the PC version.
Mod tools? John Carmack's magic tricks? Prettier graphics? 4 weapons instead of 2?
Mod tools? If they charge for mod tools, I swear I will never buy a single game from them ever again. But still, just the PC price is raised. With all these games having $60 retail price for PC (Assassin's Creed 2, MW2, Black Ops, Rage, Dead Space 2, Crysis 2, etc.) the console versions are still the normal price. So, basically, we are paying more for the game since they have to play for the game and licensing fees on consoles.

Oh, look at that, I was curious and now I know why it is raise... Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, $60 PC retail. Just another publisher turned to greed.

Well I'd say that that is an excellent thing...

They make tons of money by sitting around not doing much, then they pump it all into game development when a truly epic project drops into their lap.

Plus though they may not have done anything stupendous recently, Wolfenstien 3D and Doom completely revolutionised the FPS genre... Id are on their own ground here.

No Demo. No money. it's really that simple. there's very few games I get excited about sans demo. I have to play to pay. it could be the most awesome game in the universe but if I don't get my hands on a teaser then it requires a lot of convincing.

Doom 3 ended the release day purchases of id games for me.

If they're not going to release a demo, well, then I'll wait for the Steam sale.

PS.- Damned spammers and damned captchas. At this rate, soon I'll find them checking my own mail.

What epic projects? A cheap-scare flashlight-fest and a Borderlands knockoff aren't exactly projects I'd regard as epic.

This whole 'Borderlands knock off' thing seems rather misinformed ._.

Fair enough if you think it is and yes I can draw similarities.

But Id are going for something rather different than Gearbox...

No demo? Normally I wouldn't care as much, but this is a game I've been looking forward to, and it's a little disappointing to see that a demo has a good chance of not happening. But, I like Id software, so I'm hoping they can pull that off without a demo.

Well I just wont buy it then, the game doesn't spark my interest at all, maybe the demo could sway me, but droping $60 blindly on a game... fat chance.

That's the spirit. Bethesda says "Rage Demo unlikely" then we say "Rage purchase unlikely". I can't help but feel that what Bethesda really mean is "We'd like to give you a demo but we're afraid you'll find it so similar to another game set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland that it will put you off". I all fairness Rage sounds like a very interesting game and I'm certainly considering checking it out but the one thing that could make it a cert is a demo.

considering the game will likely be so resource demanding that it'll melt my computer, I'm going to have to say without a demo I'm not buying it

That is a brilliant way of putting it! We should all send "Rage demo unlikely? Rage purchase unlikely!" in an email.

I already played Borderlands, so without a demo to convince me that this isn't just a prettier knockoff, no thanks.
Visually they look similar, if you watch the gameplay videos you can see plenty of differences (once you go past the cars and first person perspective).

OT: Not really excited for this anyway.

Nothing I've seen has really stood out, and I wonder if id are perhaps a little out of touch. It just doesn't grab me - there's no hook.

Also, some games don't get demos because the developers/publishers know they'll do more harm than good, since you can't get the feeling of some games across in a 10-30 minute demo. That's just the way it is.

For me, it's no demo, no sale.

Very few games get my money without letting me test it out first. New IP from a company that hasn't made anything that I've really enjoyed? Nope. Even though I'm slightly interested in this game, I'm not spending a thing on it without playing it first.

Thats the Spirit!

Keep sending in that spam.

Anyways, I rarely use demos, or preorder games. If I want to try something new, I rent it from my local store, than judge it.
