Cool beans bro, I don't have to own a computer from NASA to run their brand new shiny id Tech 5 engine with all 'em fancy Photoshop-brushed textures.
...But 25 GB? Hot damn, that's even more than The Witcher 2's astonishing 16GB! What the fuck did they put in the game files? 4096x4096 grass textures in 24-bit PNG? If that's the case, well then I think they meant this game to be run on a big theatre screen or on some kind of more-than-three-screens AMD Eyefinity or Nvidia Surround setup... in 3D, of course.

ID games are optimized to the max.

Carmack got the game to run on a damn iPhone, after all.

And besides, are low requirements really that bad? Lower requirements mean more people can run it, which means more will buy it. The game also looks damn amazing.

I really don't see how this is a bad thing.
The game ran on the iPhone, that little weakling of a phone? Damn, I wonder how it would run on a Samsung Galaxy S II...

EDIT: Damned hotel's ISP making me double-post instead of processing my edit for old post!

Do keep in mind that Unreal Engine 3 runs on the iPhone.

Good lord, people, I just bought a 3TB drive for $100. Why are you complaining about 25 GB? Okay, if it's a laptop drive you only get 1TB for $100.

So then there's this: 'What the fuck did they put in the game files? 4096x4096 grass textures in 24-bit PNG?'

The entire game is One Big Texture, at least for landscape (I imagine characters, vehicles, etc have their own textures). That's the 'megapixel' technology. Lets the artists just paint anywhere they want to customize stuff. It just streams it in as you need it. So you're not going to see much repetition while running around, but then that's a lot of texture data to store even when heavily compressed.
