Until they can show that these games actually contribute to discrimination or criminality, banning them seems premature.
Very much in agreement with you on this, especially considering the extremely low rape incidence rate in the country itself - until some real research is done into the effect that such games have, banning the game genre is purely reactionary and done purely to appease foreigners, who aren't exactly affected by the issue...
Being half Dutch it (albeit loosely) reminds me of the reaction of foreigners to legalised prostitution in the Netherlands, (because sex is talked about openly, the teenage pregnancy rate is extremely low, which most people don't believe), or Cannabis (alcoholism is much more of a problem than dope addicts).
That said, there is a huge fetish market in Japan, and a lot of corresponding games - in this case the fetish market came first (sorry!) and the games are part of it, as opposed to it's cause - but again without research you can't say for sure whether the games are increasing interest that wouldn't exist otherwise or not.

Anyone else notice how high Canada was on that list? That really surprised me...
EDIT: I can see this thread is going downhill - people are getting really riled up - I'm not saying that I'm for or against the game, but banning something without any proof that it causes harm, without any complaints from the country it is retailed in and aimed at, is not a good move. It opens the way for banning other things purely because another country which would never have heard of it's existence nor encountered it in any form before now doesn't agree with it or finds it unpalatable.
