It's funny because in the PC gaming world Razer is overpriced junk.

For the price of their cheapest Keyboards you could easily get a mechanical keyboard from a company like coolermaster. At least that's the case in NZ.
Really? I've never had that much experience with things like mice and keyboards.

I've had a Razer mouse for awhile now, and had no issues, but my keyboard (Logitech g15), well, the problems are actually my fault, but I will probably need a new keyboard. You have suggestions? I've always actually liked the texture that Razer has on their mice, that sort of soft matte, I really hate that sort of glassy plastic feel I've seen on other keyboard/mice.

Why would anyone buy or play a console in 2013?

I seriously can't think of a single good reason unless you're just poor, in which case you probably shouldn't buy Razer products anyway and should focus your time and moneys on getting less poor and not video games.

My XBox 360 has been literally gathering dust ever since I beat the last decent split-screen co-op game for it a couple years ago and I never even considered buying a PS3, no, not even to play "The Last of Us".

The blackwidow's pretty decent and has that matte you want but it's expensive. Far less of a scam than a logitech rubber-dome board though, that price for what it is is just criminal

To be honest, I'm just surprised that the CEO of the company actually plays games at all, rather than just being a bland business-type.

This is why I don't own a Sony console, I don't want to be a part of this insane cult that worships anything Sony despite it's quality and curses everything that is not Sony and anyone that dares to express their lack of interest in the one true console.
Because clearly the Cult of Microsoft is better than the Cult of Sony.

Why, I hear the Cult of Microsoft gives out free cupcakes every other Tuesday!

Or, in simpler terms, Pot->Kettle->Fanboy.

Now that that's out of the way...

It's a lousy business decision, explained with the most facile reasoning I've ever seen. "I don't play PS3 games" means nothing in a world where there are a bare handful of exclusives for each console; if you're playing a game on one console, chances are it exists on the other. Even in the case of that handful of exclusives, there's a decent chance the other console has something roughly analogous to it.

Besides, how different is it to make a joystick for the PS3 versus the 360? The answer, by the way, is "It's not." Controllers I might grant more leeway to; they've got a lot of ergonomics to take into consideration, though given the fact that Razer's 360 controllers are basically just modified internals without significantly changing said ergonomics, it remains largely inexplicable why they wouldn't do the same thing for the PS3.

But hey, it's his money he's not getting, so if it makes him happy, have at it.

"Why's it selfish? I design stuff I actually want as a gamer rather than sell stuff to gamers for money."
Sounds good to me.
If only more people did what they like...

Strangely enough, when you buy a Razer product they give you a card welcoming you to the Cult of Razer.

Never heard of this company. And The Escapist, yet again, fails to provide any links or explanations in either this article, or previous Razor articles to explain who they are. However, the name of the person quoted looks Chinese; and if that's the case, leads me to presume they don't make very good quality products anyway.

Perhaps it's a good thing the PS3 isn't littered with more, cheap, knock-off crap.
Except Razer isn't cheap, knock-off crap like MadCatz. Their products are all high quality, and that's not just an opinion. Razer's Xbox controllers, for example, are frequently used at Gaming tournaments if I recall correctly, so they must be doing something right. And you're saying that because his name looks "Chinese," therefore his products must be bad? Nice stereotyping. But its irrelevant anyway, as he was born in Singapore and operates in the U.S.

A picture of Razer products being used at RTX going on right now. Surely they don't want to use cheap knockoffs!

Why is everyone getting angry at this? It is the CEO of a rather big company saying he will only make and sell products that he has tested himself and likes.
And just because he says he doesn't like PS3 doesn't mean he won't like PS4. And PS3 probably does have other third-party manufacturers and personally I wouldn't get a third party controller for a console because the company that spent years making the console would probably know the best controller to go with it.

If I could afford a Deathadder instead of the G400 that I have and like, I would have spent more money on that.

You spent ~$140US on a mechanical keybaord?
No I have a cheap 20$ Microsoft keyboard that pisses me off consistently and I want to replace it. The Deathadder is a 60$ mouse that I love.
As for the rest, I don't like the Arvo's compressed design, but the G105 actually does look nice. I guess I just never considered looking at logitech for gaming equipment.

Just suggesting to people looking for a new keyboard just to get a cheep keyboard designed for typing, and getting a keypad. I got one a few years ago and have not regretted it for a second. They all designed for gaming and are mostly fully programmable. The one I have is the cheaper razor one and its quiet nice, the joystick is crap though but it still works as 4 extra buttons, and the newer stuff with joysticks looks more developed.

I have NEVER understood people like this. There is not a single damn thing the 360 has over the PS3, except for a handful of (subpar) exclusives. Even if you disagree on that part, the PS3 has everything the 360 has, but with MORE exclusives. the only real reason why I've seen people choose a 360 over a PS3 is because their friends have it. Which is arguably a testament to the 360's "stellar" online functions, but I disagree with this assessment. Instead, I think Microsoft has a MUCH MUCH better marketing campaign, especially for American audiences (and perhaps more shrewed business practices).
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Heck if it's anything I didn't even know anything about this guy's company or what they made until this article.
I mean sure your personal preferences are nice, but basing your entire marketing style and company decisions on those isn't really good business. I mean the PS3 and the 360 aren't that different really, I own both, and the PS3 is way more popular in Japan and Europe then the 360 so this makes no sense at all.

Edit: Just checked his Twitter and it seems like he's getting crap for his comment on it. Then one of his other Tweets was about how much he loves TLoU.
They mostly maqke overpriced PC peripherals is why.

Overpriced PC peripherals that are built lower quality than the competition and come with less options for a good 40% more price.

Do make a damn fine (if extortionately priced) laptop though.

Razer's products, in particular its Xbox 360 fight sticks, are often regarded by gamers as being of very high quality and some of the best third party peripherals on the market.
A 1-in-3 failure rate and log-in required calibration software does not make the best peripherals. The reason "gamers" like them is because they are flashy and ricer and teens are into that sort of shit. Fitting that the CEO of the company has the reasoning powers of a teen.
Seriously, Razer does have the best products. They use green led on most of their products. I have yet to see Logitech compete with that.

OT: Meh, Razer's loss I guess. A lot of gamers will pick up a PS4 and some of them might have picked up some Razer stuff if they were silly enough to think they were getting quality products, but I guess this is just going to be another advertisement for getting a PS4.

I have all the systems, so I have no horse in this race. However, I think it's somewhat foolish to not support PS3. There are modulation devices that allow people to use XBOX controllers on their PS, so why not just slap one of those internally on a Razor?

It just strikes me as odd. It's as odd, in fact, as creating a gaming laptop, of all things. The cost to benefit ratio of a laptop that runs a top tier game vs a desktop is markedly different.

Then again, it doesn't cost anything to support laptops AND desktops, as the drivers and such are identical. Still, it's just a strange choice.

EDIT: was totally looking forward to getting a Razor ME edition, what with the adjustable thumbsticks and all. Then I got to the end of ME3. Well, one good thing about it was that it saved me money, I no longer wanted to buy a controller that I didn't really need.

Pity about that LE Strat Guide though...not even decent art or cd.

What is wrong with the dualshock 3 for ps3 games exactly?

If there was some burning need for neon laser precision mice and etc with a 10 to 30 dollar markup over similar items for the ps3 i do not see it.

I loved my old razor mice because they were small and ambidexterous, i am a lefty that does not like "handed" mice at all, and compared to other mice out there it was smaller than the avg as mice have gotten bigger with more and more buttons. Have had 2 of them and loved them both. they also looked wicked cool. so i had np paying a bit more for a mouse that was good for me.

But looking at them lately they seem bigger and more and more left hand/right hand, so going to stick with my copperhead for as long as i can.

Stuff like this thread is why companies (here the console manufacturers) should just use USB.

If you have the patience, get a Ducky direct from one of Taiwan's biggest PC shops. They make some of the best Keyboards and getting direct from Taiwan means it'll be on the cheap without sacrificing quality.

http://global.pchome.com.tw/english/?mod=store&func=style_show&SR_NO=SBAE42&tm=e

If you're not patient this will be an opportunity to better yourself as a person.

Though I should really clarify what I said before. A lot of the Western Peripheral companies like Roccat and Razer are overpriced. It's just so much cheaper to get a Cherry or a Ducky and get a really solid base keyboard.

Who gives a fuck if you don't play your PS3. You're the CEO of a company. Your aim as a company is to make products for the consumer, not yourself. This doesn't make any sense at all from a business view. You don't see McDonalds only selling Bigmacs because the CEO only likes fucking Bigmacs, this is such a selfish attitude. This is coming from someone who loves Razer (all my PC's peripherals are Razer products).

Well, that's an extremely racist attitude. Your ignorance is outstanding.

It doesn't really bother me either way, mostly because I got sick of my Razer products crapping out on me after 6 months and so I don't buy any of their stuff anymore.
I've seen a few people complain about Razer products die on them fairly quickly. I've never really understood how. I've been using Razer products for a good while now, and I've never had any problems. I've had my mouse for about 3 years and it's only starting to mess up (which is partly my fault), I've had a Razer keyboard for round about 7 months and it still works fine, and I've had a Razer headset for round about 5-6 months and it still works like a charm.

Well, all i can say to this controversy is, that i'm happy with my razer naga, and even if it was a bit pricey, it's still awesome for mmo gaming so it was worth it.
