It is pretty old by modern standards but i'd have to give the crown to Project Ako. It is terrible yet, like a train wreck, hard to look away from. It actually manages to throw pretty much every trope in anime, up to the point that it was released, in itself. I think everyone who is into old school anime should see it at least once.

You want a bad anime? I've got a couple of personal recommendations that I find awful:

Master of the Martial Hearts:
One of the meanest spirited panty fighters you'll ever come across. Not only are the characters horribly one dimensional fetish stereotypes, but the final episode twist comes out of nowhere AND makes you feel like a horrible person for enjoying panty fighters. And even if you don't give a flying feather about any of the characters, the ending result is rather fucked up beyond belief.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes:
Take a magical girl show, throw in a superficial "Sherlock Holmes" theme, give them to 4 stereotypical anime girls, and give it twice the "uguu kawaii" that Shugo Chara had. Had this just been an anime aimed towards little girls I would've brushed this series off, but then the FANSERVICE seeps in at all the wrong places (remember that the main characters in this show are between 11-14 years old!). This series is exactly what you think of when you think of that stereotypical kawaii anime that shut-in otaku watch and buy anime figurines for, and it's that little layer of squick that just creeps me out about it.

There's probably worse out there, but these are two that immediately rub me the wrong way.

I'll throw in Vividred Operation. I feel it represents just about everything wrong with the industry. From the few episodes I've seen, it has all the depth of a particularly bad season of Power Rangers mixed in with little girls in compromising situations. I find it hilarious in how predictably and absolutely terrible it is.

As much as most people I know who have watched it and myself love it Nichijou is technically bad due to selling only 900 copies of the DVD during it's first week in Japan. I guess Japan doesn't like it for some reason.

It's crap but you're compelled by the Skrillex love interest
I saw this. I thought it was meh. I was interested at first but it started losing momentum as it goes.
Well yeah but catch-22 here I couldn't recommend a bad anime unless it was meh. Conflict of interest. Are we looking for B-movie-so-bad-it's-good merit? Big Bang Theory merit where it's just compulsive without a great reason? If it's bad I usually drop it early on or forget it exists and it falls away.

I recommend sage's Anime Abaddon show on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com.
Let's just say that Garzey's Wing is pretty average example of the stuff he reviews, and far from the worst or weirdest, so even if you don't want to watch the show itself, the list of titles he looked at should be a good starting point...

Master of Martial Hearts.

Take your standard terrible "panty fighter" (Ikki Tousen being the biggest example), cut the animation budget in half, get people that dub the terrible dialogue with 100% sincerity, have a plot that makes less sense than most porn films, then try to turn it into a deconstruction of panty fighters in the very last episode from literally nowhere.

Oh, then expect people will actually pay to watch this garbage on youtube. Funimation, why do you have to agree to dub EVERY anime? Some not even you guys can save.

Edit: Ninja'ed >_<

Eiken.

It's so ridiculous, stupid and over-the-top all at the same time that you can't help but be entertained by it's awfulness. Seriously, this is a show where even the loli characters have breasts 3 times the size of their heads.

Chrome Shelled Regios
20+ episodes of "WTF is going on here?"
I finished the first season and still have no idea what was going on there
Not because plot was super complex, but rather because for most part nothing happened, and when something happened it either made no sense or contradicted things.
Characters also didn't made things better (meh or worse)
Maybe manga is better, don't know, but avoid this anime.

P.S.To balance things out- check out Btooom! I found it quite good (despite the stupid name :D )

only one that comes to mind would be strike witches.
the plot is something about aliens and "lolis" fighting them but the plot was only there to serve as a excuse for panty shots.
then again it might be the most griping drama ever starting with the second episode since i only saw the first one.

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls

Now a friend told me to watch this anime, so I went in blind, not knowing what the hell to expect. Except for "Samurai" and "Girls" and a possible link between those two aspects.

The first two episodes deceived me into thinking this was an anime with an absolutely gorgeous art-style, maybe a little sexual innuendo, fantastic snippets of fluid action animation.

WHAM!

It was a goddamn ecchi harem anime!

The plot is a terrible mess, the music and dubbing will make you want to grate your ears off. There was no character development, overall it felt pointless.

But it's just so laughably bad that it makes the likes of the terribly mediocre Guilty Crown look a masterpiece.

Oh gosh, OP. If you want to split your sides watching this crap and giving your favourite anime's a better outlook in comparison, try this one. :D

To love ru.

It's about this bloke who accidentally agrees to marry this alien princess, and finds himself having to prove to her father that he's worthy of his daughter, to prevent him from blowing up the earth, and also fighting off suitors from other planets who've come to kill him in order to take his place, while all the while he has to keep his feelings for his true love a secret.

There are so many awesome things they could have done with this show, but instead they went with painfully unfunny, and predictable jokes, mostly involving the main character seeing a girl's underwear, who then beats him up.
The one thing I did like about this show was a character called the golden darkness, who had some pretty cool moments, but was fairly underused.

Also there was this one episode that took the piss out of magical girl anime which was friggin hilarious.

The whole plot looks like it's written by a first year college student who took Psychology for the first time, Raison d'Etre kept being spammed in almost every episode until the very term pretty much lost its meaning in the whole anime.

Well there's pretty much the Harem Genre, which are usually pretty crappy, but pretty fun to watch anyway. If you're going to go that route I would suggest Aria: the Scarlet Ammo(Hidan no Aria if you prefer the Japanese title), High School of the Dead, Sekirei, and Kampfer. Oh, I almost forgot Vandread. This is one of the worst out there, but pretty damn fun to watch anyway.

Then there's the ones I'm sure you've heard of, DBZ(Deus Ex Machina being a recurring plot device is not ok), Naruto(filler and some character issues),Yu-Gi-Oh(God the script writing in the original series was terrifyingly atrocious), and Bleach(bad case of uneven power curve). Still pretty fun to watch(as a side note, Dragon ball has a lot of what made DBZ so much fun, and very few of the flaws).

Some unusual ones, Inuyasha(kind of an earlier Naruto/Bleach), Gundam Seed(especially destiny), and Witchblade. Honestly, just go to a random anime streaming site, throw on the shounen filter and see what pops up(watch it someplace else, just find it there). Most of them are pretty crap overall but still a fun ride.

You should try Guilty Crown.

It's beautifully animated, with a god tier soundtrack, supported by a dream team of a production crew.

But goddammit, I can't bring myself to give the slightest shit about any of these fuckers.
I've seen Guilty Crown, and honestly, I didn't think it was that bad. Wasn't great, or even good, but I found it enjoyable enough. Not sure why, as I do see the problems, but I didn't find it that bad, and honestly didn't get all the hate it got. I guess I can put that up with SAO in terms of anime I enjoy despite its problems.
I think the reason it got so much hate was because it was hyped up the wazoo before it aired. Not saying the story wasn't poorly executed, because it was, but there are far worse anime out there. Admittedly it is the action and music that prevent me from considering this a bad anime.

Boku no pico, Kuroshitsuji, any tsundere Rie anime, and generic harem (Ichiban Ushiro Daimaou, Hagare Yuusha, Highschool DxD) Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de, Zetman, Supernatural (and yes it's based on the western show). Possibly Legend of the Galactic heroes I found it so bad it's good.

If you want one where the ending makes you rage, Usagi Drop. I have never raged more at an ending than that. The anime only covers half of the manga. There's a timeskip and this is the actual ending.

If you didn't bother to watch the anime before clicking on this, that's his adopted daughter. He's fucking his daughter.

If you're looking for simple entertainment rather than bad I can list those too.
I know Boku no Pico, which is basically just shota yaoi from what I know (You'll find that I'm pretty hard to offend or disturb)

As for Usagi Drop, I've seen the anime and enjoyed it but... what?! I... how... whe... uh... How did.... HOW THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN?! Goddamn, I need to read this manga.

I've already mentioned I've seen Eiken, and it's one of the worst I've seen, mostly because I can't think of a single redeeming thing about it, and it wasn't even entertainingly bad.

it even aired on Adult Swim.
I remember that. That's that Alexander the Great anime, isn't it? I saw a bit of it as a kid and even then it looked like crap. I gotta see it again.

Sells numbers don't count for actual quality. You may be surprised how poorly some even great animes sold.

I've seen this. It's bad. I'm not terribly fond of ecchi to begin with.

I've seen Aria, and I remember feeling very stupid afterwards. That anime goes from generic and boring to batshit what-the-fuck-am-I-watching territory. The last episode is especially hilarious. High School of the Dead I remember liking, becuas it also had its moments of batshit stupid (matrix tities). As for Kampferm a friend recommended it to me, and that was really stupid.

Everything else you've mention are stuff I saw as a kid. I remember being a huge Inuyasha fan as a kid, too, and it was also the reason why I almost quit anime. Gundam Seed I remember liking, but it's been awhile since I saw it.

Okay, maybe I just overlooked it somehow, I didn't want to read every single post twice, once was enough... But did we really get through a recommend a bad anime thread all the way to page two without ANYONE saying SCHOOL DAYS????

I mean, I have watched a ton of anime, and with that comes some real "gems" ( Including many with horrid incest plot lines, which I hate btw) if you will, but the only anime that I have come to despise is School Days. The ending only partially makes up for what happens throughout the show.

Currently streaming on Crunchy Roll, if you want to see the definition of horrid anime.

I found it very entertainingly bad! But then again, I'm not easily offended, and silly, over-the-top ridiculousness always gets a lol out of me. I mean I like the Cho Aniki games after all:
