This is what leads to political correctness, which nobody likes. If people get offended by every little things will quickly become stale and boring.

I am half Irish and I never actually thought "hey, that's quite offensive and stereotypical. I am offended by this", take a joke people.

If you go to a comedy show and the comic picks on you, he doesn't mean to insult or offend, it's intended to make people laugh.

After all it is just a game, it's not going to influence anybody.

Was bound to happen sooner or later, though I wasn't expecting the Irish to be the first ones to get butthurt. This surprised me a bit.

Get over it; there's really nothing to complain about, other than a minor stereotype which virtually every country has in one form or another.

I personally don't advocate the use of stereotypes, considering I hate how Hollywood portrays people from Louisiana as being super-Cajun coons who live on the boondocks. But really, it has to originate from somewhere, and the only person you need to blame is the jackass who started it.

So, screw you, ancestors of every known stereotype. I hope you're proud of the damage you caused.
You didn't seriously just say "coons"?
The word "Coon" or "Coonass" is used to describe people of Cajun ethnicity. Some of us use the word to descibe ourselves and some think it as an ethnic slur.

Just in case you didn't know. :p
I was thinking more along the lines of a racial slur for blacks.
It's also a racial slur for Cajuns. (descendants of french speakers via Canada living in Louisiana and Texas) I have heard it both ways, but it's pretty clear the way this dude means it.

It's super racist, but not in the way you think.

Remember when everyone got really upset over this:

But now are defending THIS with a passion:

Goes to show you that people are far more willing to jump to the defense of a race like the blacks instead of the Irish because we just "don't have a sense of humor."
Oh don't play that "racism is a ploy by the blacks to feel special" thing. There were more problems with dressing up a strong, capable female character in porno gear than just racism. Plus the problem wasn't so much the bikini as it was the ethnic slaughter taking place in a region of the world most famous for its horrific ethnic slaughter.

Didn't the main character have Irish heritage (his dad talked about how much he hated the English, if I remember correctly)?

As a half Irish, half German feller who does enjoy booze a bit too much, I was not offended in the slightest by the character. I found him kinda annoying, but offensive? No. Getting sick of all the mandatory political correctness in this world. They shoulda made Irish a graverobbing mental patient, I spose, that would be less offensive.

Can someone riddle me this, Why the hell is it "okay" to stereotype Americans as fat, lazy, rednecks, but when we do something to someone else we are all of a sudden "bad people"!? Come on guys, does that really make any sense whatsoever?

OT: I haven't played the game, but im about 80% Irish and I can say this:
I drink like a fucking camel when it comes to liquor. So what? When people make fun of me for that I just laugh. There shouldn't have been any harm done here. But of course some big business in Ireland has to get their panties in a twist.

Its a rockstar game, people should really expect this, even if it is comming from a stupid point.

Reminds me of when they made the Di Vinchi code movie, and there was a Albino leage agenst the movie for the fact an Albino was evil.

At least there was an Albino in it people, he could have followed the "Albino Sterotype" as in doing nothing and hids from the daylight.

No offence to anyone on this site of corse.

When I went to Ireland I found myself in a town of 300 people with 13 pubs.
I think there is some basis to this stereotype.

Irish was hilarious. People with a stutter aren't pissing themselves about shakey, and that part was great.

Well I am Irish and the only problem I have with this character is that he is called Irish and I would also have a problem if he was called Paddy. They could of at least given him a decent name if t hey wanted him to be Irish like John, Tom, Eoin or something that isn't Irish or Paddy. What kind of name is Irish?

It was a nickname given to him by the Americans/his 'friends' I think. Do you remember the cutscene with the Frenchman & the Welshman? He called them Frenchy & Welsh didn't he? Can't remember exactly but I think so. I'm half Irish, half Scottish & I didn't have a problem with the character but he was pretty annoying.

Ha! I knew who the Irish would complain about before I read this. Hahahaha!
I hated Irish as a character. He was a pain.
Me too, the second he opened his mouth I thought "This is definitely going to piss some Irish people off." though I really didn't dislike him as a character, I always like lovable coward characters. :)

No no no...no, an Irish NEWSPAPER is upset and is so bored they're grabbing onto anything.

The Irish themselves really could give a fuck. There's a difference escapist. Trust me.

Im annoyed at almost every game that depicts all Nazi's as children eating, woman raping unforgiving bastards. No one complains against that, but the moment a single irish person on a game is depicted as a drunk is introduced, people take offence.

I don't but I only played the game for a bit at a friends but it is just that nickname is so lack luster and uninventive. The ones you mentioned are too. I think that is what annoys me about him being called Irish.
