Any weapon that is required to be reloaded. I remember the good old days of Doom in which you held down the fire button until you are out of ammo altogether and change guns in which you would do the same thing. Now days, you shoot for a few seconds until you use the 30 bullets in the mag then wait until the 30 bullets are reloaded back into the gun to be able to shoot again.

Bad checkpoint/save spacing.

Ruins many a gaming experience for me. It's also a BASIC PRIORITY OF LEVEL DESIGN.

Online achievements. The amount of people online makes them hard, the hackers and glitters make them impossible.

If that doesn't count, Rubber-banding. I want my competitors to take off realistically (according to the game), and if I have a car that is ridiculously faster, I want it to show.
I entirely agree with both of these things. Racing games often annoy the hell out of me when a competitor catches me after having crashed into oncoming traffic, for example. And I'd have all the trophies in multiple games if it wasn't for online achievements/trophies.

OT: As well as those, I'd say the 2 weapon limit. I don't mind it in Call of Duty, but games like Duke Nukem Forever and Resistance 2 would have been so much better with a weapon wheel or something. As it stands, one was absolute shite, and the other was just really quite good..

I know this thread was basically made to bash regenerating health (which is something that has become as annoying and widespread as the trend of regenerating health itself) but I'll still oblige to a point.

Here's a new one. How about cutscenes? Just get rid of cutscenes entirely. Tell the story through gameplay and the mechanics without relying on trying to make your game look like something that it isn't.

This one may be a bit offbeat, but gear systems in most RPGs have generally annoyed me insofar as they ask, well, do you want to equip the Diamond Bracers or Golden Bracers? Minor items like that peeve me. I'd much rather have an armor set slot (sum of all armor), a weapon slot, and be allowed to customize my appearance.

If items had unique interactions, I may be inclined to hold my tongue. But, generally speaking, it's just stat stacking, so removing the accessorizing nonsense seems like it would streamline game play.

WATER FUCKING LEVELS

There is no way I can possibly tell you how much I hate them to death. I have drowned one too many times trying to find that last star/coin/enemy/whatever so I go to a new area.

Princess Peach better give me something more than a kiss on the cheek for savin her ass for the billionith time in a row.
Heh, you should play hydrophobia... Its one giant water level.

OT: Regen health is vastly over used, when it was just halo doing it it was innovative and cute... now its just a cancer.

Quick time events and ridiculous side-quest. The first is a no brainer, but the second you have delve into a bit. I'm talking about the side-quest that makes you gather the 6 magical maguffins of the land usually entailing useless mini games to get the best weapon to kill with or something to that extent.

What cod you say cod is not a game mechanic but surely almost every fucking fps nowadays feels and plays like cod with the few exceptions that are great but are shunned by the stereotypical 12 year old bastard who thinks cod is realistic. sigh You know some times i wish pedobear was real and gay

but seriously
QTEs
Personally i think these are the devils creation
At least you said the 12yr olds are stereotypical otherwise I would have given you my "not all of us are like that speech."

OT:QTEs, annual games (new one every year), aim assist and cover based shooting.

Shoddy and or unresponsive camera controls/mechanics. I was recently playing Banjo Kazooie (N64) with my fiancée and that camera was causing nothing but trouble, and yes, the camera issues followed on the XBLA release too.

Regenerating health.

Half Life 2 didn't have regenerating health and it's one of the best games of all time.
Half Life 2 isn't considered the best game because of it's health system though. And even nowadays, it's physics based gameplay has been outshined.
I was just pointing out that you can have a briliant game without regenerating health

Unskippable cut scenes
especially theyre in a genre that doesnt fit them like all the goddamn cutscenes in gears of war

Even if your making a story driven game such as ff6 or devil survivour at least make
cutscenes before a hard boss so I dont have to watch THE SAME FUCKING CUTSCENE EVREYSINGLE TIME I
LOSE TO THE SAME FUCKING BOSS

A good example of this would be the riku fight in kingdom hearts
Riku took me about 20 times to kill
And the cutscene was about 3-5 minutes long
Which means I spent about half-hour watching the same FUCKING CUTSCENE AGAIN AND AGAIN

Seriously cutscenes let me skip you

i hate to sounds like a broken record here but YES! AGREED WITH TOPIC! i hate regening health,ITS LAME AND OVER USED STOP IT! its even working its way into my RPG's and removing my beloved health bars! im looking at your Mass Effect 2,yeah you may be a good game but ill never play you cause of that! >.>
So you won't play a game because of one mechanic you don't like?

It must suck to be that picky.

Also, is your name "rpgRound" as in you're round and you like RPG's, or a literal round of RPGs or is it "rpGround" as in roleplaying ground?

OT: regenerating health is overused, but it's also necessary at times, same as quicktime events or fast travel, you have to ask yourself if the game would be more enjoyable without the mechanic, and if that would apply to everyone or just you. Were I to pick, I would remove sticky cover, I think it's cheap, I don't mind auto cover, like when you move to a wall and your character takes cover automatically like in 'The Chronicles of Riddick' that's fine, but when you have to press a button or "unstick" yourself in some way, that bothers me to no end.
