Even if IE9 was show the be the best browser, made of winsauce and gives you a cake upon installation. i would only install it for the cake and then go immediately back to firefox.
Im too used to it.

I'm still going to use Firefox thank you.

Because all the protection in the world doesn't matter if your browser is slow and takes up twice as much memory. Also, I'm not an idiot when it comes to fishy links.

If only MS didn't nurf the UI on IE9, I would be using it instead of IE8. I wish browsers would stop trying to imitate Chrome's awful interface.

"best protection of any browser against socially engineered malware."

Ooooo, it spits pop ups telling you not to be a total moron and fall for phishing attacks every five seconds then?

so the dead horse has resurrected. Good for those who don't know better on web browsers. But for me, I'm happy with Chrome and Firefox

That's a totally unbiased study...Everyone should heed it immediately!

In other news, I have some oceanfront property in Arizona I'd like to sell.

Too bad it's still a nightmare to code websites for. If they made that better, I would run back with arms wide open. But I'm smart enough not to click just anything on the internets.

With the rise of malware installed by unwitting people clicking on bad links, however, perhaps it's time to run back to Microsoft.
That's the key there. If you have no idea what you're doing on the internet, sure use IE. But if you're smart and don't click suspicious links you can just use your browser of choice.

Hey, is this sounding familiar to anyone? I mean, it sounds almost like the current situation! Oh wait, it is the current situation.

They'd need to send me a whore-a-day to get me to start using Internet Explorer.
Sounds like a premise for another study about blocking out viruses...

I have three different browsers on my computer for different purposes. Chrome for speed, Firefox for extensions, old IE for compatibility.

Even if everything else the report says is true (and several people have suggested perfectly legitimate reasons to take its findings with a grain of salt), wait six months. As the version that's going to come bundled into the next version of Windows and which current versions of Windows are going to be bugging their users to install with each new update, IE9 is quite simply going to be the browser with the biggest bullseye on its back.

Frankly, it's wisest not to count on your browser alone to protect you from malware in any case.

Well this is a pleasant surprise.

But I'm not leaving my Foxy. Nu uh. *cuddles Firefox* >.>
Oi, we said we'd share! *takes back Firefox to cuddle with* <.<

OT: That's actually surprising. Oh well, it won't matter seeing as I'm running Linux now for the one thing I browse the web with :D

To all those saying "outdated, 6 is out now" 4 is the main build, 5 and 6 are just tweaks to it.
Yeah, just tweaks. Like perhaps better protection against the stuff the study was testing for. That could be a tweak. Won't know unless someone runs a non-biased study.

Good for them. Somehow I doubt if all the people who have developed a mislike for Microsoft are going to suddenly come running back though.

Such a large jump obviously means something though. Microsoft is doing something that other people aren't. (Or maybe they are just getting hit so hard so often that they have dealt with every threat while other browsers have had it easier and thus have more lax security? i.e. the "Mac is virus free" situation.)

I'll stick with Chrome, thank you.
My antivirus slows down web page loading times on IE to 2 seconds.

I know, I'm as amazed as you are. I use Chrome because of its easy features and small UI footprint and I know not to click on random links that might look suspicious, but if you have a grandmother or Auntie Sue who can't make such a judgement call, you could do a lot worse than making sure their laptop is running the most updated version of Internet Explorer.
Not even gonna mention how the escapist was handing out Trojans the other week huh? Sometimes a judgement call isn't enough, sadly. It's never a bad idea for anyone to pick an extra layer of protection. *points to avast*
