But that defeats their entire purpose! Why would they do that??
I think it is a godsend that they made TMs infinite and this is why:

Because one use makes them half useless. As it stood, You couldn't use ANY TMs until end game when you were sure they wouldn't be replaced by some better move or better pokemon entirely. And that was just if you were smart, if you werent that "poke-smart" you wasted the TMs and never got any real use out of them. Not being able to use any of the TMs you get until the very end of the game was just no fun, why bother giving them out so early and often if you can't even use them? So that's why they are now unlimited.
Plus there are the places that are usually at the of the game where TMs can be bought for points, but the problem is that it takes forever to earn the points from battling in places like the battle tower in Diamond. It took me over 5 hours over a few days to earn the points to get one TM that I wanted.
And there are other TMs that I have gotten in some of the games that turned out that I could only get one of, if there was another way to get it, I never found it.
It always bugged me that HMs were infinite, but TMs weren't.
Another thing that I've always hated is how HMs are permanent unless I have encountered the move deleter in the game, and he is usually in the last town in the games I have played. That is the one reason I was glad that flash was changed to a TM, because I would usually just use flash once while going through a cave and then never use it for days. Ya it is a good accuracy lowering move, but there has only been one time that it did any good in a battle for me. Most of the time when I lower an opponents accuracy, it doesn't seem to affect how often they miss, they just keep on hitting.

I hopefully will be picking up Pokemon White at GameStop. I say hopefully, because my receipt for it that I have been keeping in my wallet, all the printing has rubbed off of it. I can just barely make out White on it and a few of the money numbers from where I pre-ordered it while I was buying Heart Gold.
