Robot Chicken Creators: Star Wars Sitcom Will Be "Awesome"

Don't be worried about the new Star Wars animated sitcom. Seth Green is promising he won't mess things up.

When LucasFilm announced that a Star Wars sitcom was in the works, there was a lot of groaning from the fan community. The Prequel Trilogy was bad enough for many, but announcing a sitcom seemed like the kind of daft planning that led to the creation of the <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Star_Wars_Holiday_Special>Star War Holiday Special. When it was revealed that Seth Green and Matthew Senreich - the guys behind <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Robot-Chicken-Seasons-Seth-Green/dp/B002S3Y1KW/ref=sr_1_8?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1280863227&sr=1-8>Robot Chicken - were collaborating with Lucas on the new show, people started breathing a little easier. While the show is a few years away from coming out, Seth Green is promising that it won't be an insult to fans of the (good) Star Wars films.

Io9 recently had an opportunity to speak to Green and Senreich at Comic-Con, with the subject of the conversation naturally being about the duo's various Star Wars projects. Initially, Green was apparently pretty hesitant when it came to discussing the new show, but he finally opened up. "It's probably like two years, legitimately, before anybody will have anything real to say about that," he said. "It's so early, but it is going to be awesome. I promise, we're not going to fuck it up. We take it really seriously. We won't abuse [your] trust."

Senreich and Green have a lot of credibility right now. While Robot Chicken is hysterical, <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Robot-Chicken-Star-Seth-Green/dp/B0012Q3T6S/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1280863120&sr=8-5>the two Star Wars specials that have spun off from the show have been a scream. On top of that, both men admit they're fanatics in love with the movies. From the sound of things, this new animated sitcom is in good hands.

Star wars sitcom really? But they did that whole thing with all those star wars gags. And then they did a musical. And then a marathon of all there star wars jokes. And then a second marathon of all there star wars jokes. As a person who wishes everyday to have a chance to play star wars battlefront 3 and actually likes the clone wars cartoon series I really say you got to let this go.

Doing random gags is considerably different than a sitcom.. This won't go down well. This will be the Robot Chicken version of The Cleveland Show.

Wait, what? A Star Wars sitcom? How in the name of ever-loving-nine-hells is THAT supposed to work? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good sitcom, but we're talking about STAR WARS here. What's next? A Warhammer 40k romantic comedy?

God damn it. An official sitcom? People have made money making some brilliant Star Wars parodies and jokes from Spaceballs, to Family Guy, to Chad Vader.

Now Lucas is whoring out the franchise as a kiddie cartoon show and a comedy. Star Wars is dead to me now. You know I wasn't really on board with all this George Lucas hate. I mean a guy has every right to make money and he is a creative guy. This is too far. Damn you George Lucas and damn all those movie executives. The Sarlacc pit is too damn good for them.

The hate is swelling in you now. Give in to your anger. Use your aggressive feelings, boy. Let the hate flow through you.

This seems like the worst idea of the century, Seth Green or not. But HEY! Too early to judge right? I'd be an idiot to start getting worked up about it at this point ^^

THIS ^

I like Seth Greene (though I don't like Family Guy) I really started noticing him by name after he voiced Joker in Mass Effect 1

I don't know if it is a good idea in total but I can hope that it is something that turns out to be good in the end.

Anyways, a Star Wars sitcom couldn't mock the original series any more than this:

Or this:

Also, the one in the middle looks like she's recharging he lightsaber.

Hmmm, agreed Lucas is whoring out his universe to people, but i don't really mind, you can ignore most of the crap that flows into it, it is a UNIVERSE after all. Who knows, in our universe there's probably a galaxy or two where people bleed rainbows and explode into pixie dust when they die. And then there's us, quite different. It's grand sure, and Seth Green's pretty entertaining, i'd like to see where that goes.

And if it sucks, they'll pull a Firefly on it. =P
