Marcus slung his light shield on his back and followed the two soldiers out. The midday sun blinded him temporarily as he existed the temple. The commander was already several strides ahead, his form weaved in and out of the crowds on the streets. He picked up his pace and soon was walking alongside Abdul. "I wish I had some time to stop by the armory" he said out aloud. "I wanted to by some new daggers.....oh well, maybe in Gaul" he let out a sigh.

Abdul now turned to Marcus and said "Travian here will show you the best dagger shop", now being more practical he walked at the front of the small group and was quite literally picking people up and moving them aside out of the way so the group could manouever through the crowd more easily.

Nero walked through the crowd following the others looking in disgust and Abdul moved people.
"That's a quick way to get through a crowd, but a quicker way to start a fight. I would stop that if I were you."
Nero's hand dropped to the hilt of his gladius, more to feel the comfortable weight of it than any sort of threat.
"I still need armour, and a shield. You surely don't expect me to fight like this do you?"

"Relax!" Marcus turned to Nero. "We don't know what time our ship leaves yet, if there is time to spare we'll head on down to the armory and try and sort out our weapons and armor. If not we can buy supplies from Gaul. According to Abdul at least, Travian seems to know some good spots there".
He pulled out two throwing knives, that were tucked under his belt. He studied the blades for a minute before running it across his finger, Not sharp enough he thought. If they were planning on adventuring across Europe they would need to make a well needed supply stop before they wandered into combat.

Nero rubbed his temples.
"Either way, I can hardly fight without a shield and armour."
He then sighed in reply to Travian's comment.
"I've been to Gaul. You seem much more eager to go back than any of the other men I was with."

Abdul heaved the last person out of the way as the arrived at the dock leaning in towards Travian menacingly, staring him right in the eyes "Is that meant to scare me?".

The boat seemed to take forever, perhaps it was a mix of it actually being late and the fact that a new adventure was to begin...

Nero. Take this (reaches into his cloak and pulls out a thin book) It is about fighting unarmed. Snapping necks. breaking limbs. I hope you can read. (grins humorlessly) written asian.

"Hah, not to scare, my large freind, but to teach. Gaul is a trecherous place, Corrupt guardsmen, over-priced goods at shops, and thugs and criminals ready too pounce on you, even during the day. it will be nice to go home once more" he said with a grin and a laugh

Glabrio noticed the ship slowly moving in from the horizon, a silhouette against the horizon.

"The captain and his crew will doubtless be in possession of many a weapon. I'm sure a little bartering will bring them your way, but please, no blackmail." Glabrio sensed the dissapointment from his group. "Oh alright, I suppose a little....encouragement won't go amiss. But please, we don't want to start a fight and get thrown overboard." The ship slowly pulled into the harbour, eventually docking. The captain stumbled out from his boat.

"Attention all, this boat leaves in half an hour for the port of Massilia, in Eastern Gaul. All those who wish to join our crew on this voyage must pay 30 Denarii each. Stowaways will be thrown overboard, as will anyone who thinks to raid our wine barrels." Glabrio approached the captain of the boat, unfurling the scroll and showing it to the captain.

"We are under the orders of the Emperor, and I, Commander Titonichus Andreas Glabrio, demand free passage to Gaul." At this the captain stood wide-eyed for a moment. Then, unexpectedly, he burst into hysterical laughter.

"I wouldn't give free passage to my own grandmother." The Captain said between fits of laughter. "And what's to stop you simply writing that scroll yourself? I don't believe that you're the Emperor's agents at all". It was at this moment that Glabrio's short temper saw fit to take control of his fist and he slammed it into the captain's head with a sickening crunch. The captain crumpled. Glabrio turned to the shocked crew.

"We are the agents of the Emperor, and you will sail under our command. Do you understand?" The crew, terrified at the sight of the group of fearless warriors, hurriedly agreed."I guess we won't have to worry about being thrown overboard, eh? Also, I believe the Captain spoke of wine barrels. I think tonight shall be a night to remember". Glabrio grinned and wandered off to look for his quarters as the ship prepared to leave port once more.

Marcus stepped over the sprawled figure on the deck, looking at the stunned captain and back at the commander he grunted, "Well, we are off to a good start!. I am going to find my cabin and find someone on this ship that is willing to barter for some weapons. I will meet you in the galley for some wine later". With that Marcus nodded to the commander and made his way below deck. Sheltered from the sun, the lower deck was much darker and cooler than the sweltering upper deck. The air was stuffy and the crew, that were initially stunned by Glabrio's actions, had resumed their daily routine of unloading and loading supplies from the ship. As a result the lower deck was abuzz with activity. Making his way to the stern of the ship Marcus stumbled onto the crew and passenger quarters. The beds were hardly beds at all but simple hammocks tied to each end of the ceiling beams and stacked one on top of each other to minimize space taken on the ship. Brilliant! he muttered to himself, "I don't want Abdul on the top hammock that's for sure."

After laying some of his heavier effects on the hammock, Marcus made his way around some of the crew quarters. Most of the men looked like they had seen too much of the open seas, their faces were lined with the signs of strain from years of hard, manual labor and they all looked more or less starved of a proper vitamin diet. Marcus kicked a rodent that he spotted scurrying across the floor. He was about to give up hope of finding anyone who looked capable of trading in weapons when he spotted a lone figure walking out of the galley. A short, balding man wearing a black tunic, a leather belt was across his waist and carrying a large sack behind him, seemed out of place for a ship full of laborers. The figure dropped his heavy burden on the ground to catch his breath when Marcus approached him.

"Let me help you with that" Marcus offered. "Oh no, it's quite alright. It's my fault really. I packed in too much stuff into my kit.. I am expecting big sales in Lugdunum this season" the man said in between breaths but with a beaming smile. "So, you are a merchant then?" Marcus asked with a sly grin. "Why yes, yes I am. Amantius Septimius Laskaris" he said with a dramatic bow. "Merchant to Lugdunum via Massalia" he continued. "Do you trade in weapons?" Marcus pressed. "Sure do!" came the reply, "Swords, knives, bows and even some fine selection of slings.." he began but Marcus cut him off.

"Excellent, excellent!" Marcus finally could replace his ageing and blunt weapons. "I am interested in seeing what you have on offer, if you don't mind some early business that is" he continued. "Not at all, right this way" Amantius replied with a broad smile and led them to a small clearing and began unpacking the contents of his sack.

Travian Stared at the sea from the Deck, if one was to look at him, you'd think he was trying to look at Gaul, hundreds of miles away. "Wine, bedding...all we need now is some women and the trip will be a fine one indeed" he sighed, turning back and entered his "Cabin"
removing some of his heavier supplies, and returned to the deck, sniffing the Sea air.

Gaius stepped onto the lower deck to avoid the hot sun from above. He saw Travian walk off towards the passenger cabins and followed suit. Gaius picked the cabin between Marcus and Travian and after unloading his supplies decided to go exploring. He made his way past the other passengers that had to pay 30 Denarii and the other crew members who were busy with the routing ship activity. He stopped short when he saw Marcus talking to a stranger on the ship. Stepping forward Gaius overheard the stranger introduce himself as a Merchant called Amantius.
"Good merchant may I too observe your wares?" Gaius inquired standing next to Marcus. "I am in need of some new boots and if you have anything that suits me I will be happy to buy them off you"

The merchant looked up at the new customer. "Why I should take this ship more often" he remarked a bit surprised. "Business seems to be good already and yes I do have an array of boots" he reached into his bag and pulled out several pairs of Roman hobnailed boots for Gaius's inspection. "Hmm, yes. Yes this is adequate for my needs for now. I'll take this!" Gaius said studying a particular boot. He paid the merchant and turned to Marcus who was still browsing through the Merchants wares. "What are you looking to buy?" he asked casually.

"Any good throwing weapon" Marcus answered casually admiring a throwing knife. "I prefer these light weapons to anything else, they are fast and agile and you can always throw it at someones head" he said turning to Gaius with smile. "Sorry I am rambling a bit now but I take my time in picking my weapons" he said and turned to the merchant. "This is very well balanced blade. Where is it from?" he asked curiously. "Brittania, I've got a limited stock. Only two I am afraid" the merchant replied. "I'll take it" Marcus was more than pleased with his newly purchased weapon, he paid the merchant and tucked the daggers into his belt.

He turned to Gaius, "that should do it for now, perhaps we should go find the rest of the crew and the commander. If I recall correctly this ship is carrying some wine amphoras"

As night fell across the great ocean, Glabrio stared out across the dark expanse. The boat gently rocked with the rhythm of the rolling seas, accompanied by the splashing of the oars hitting in the water. Glabrio's hands curved around the hilt of his blade, and suddenly he whipped the sword across the the air, entering into an elaborate routine, battling imaginary enemies. He was abruptly cut short by a series of thumps echoing across the bow. Alone in the darkness, Glabrio's instincts sharpened.

I'm being watched.

A mysterious figure moved in the darkness behind him, as Glabrio studied the darkness, trying to make out the figure. Suddenly, the figure moved into the lamplight, lunging at the Captain with a small dagger.

"Roman swine! I would never suffer the dishonour to sail under your command. Never!" Glabrio apprehensively stepped to the side, tripping his assailant, before holding a knife to his throat.

"You don't want to sail under a Roman? Then you shall not sail at all!" Glabrio heaved the man onto the side of the boat. "Any last words?" Glabrio said through gritted teeth.

"You Romans.....you killed my family. You bastards....." Glabrio, now overcome with rage, flung his attacker over the side of the boat and into the murky deep below. He bellowed inarticulately at the black skies.

"Who else wishes to challenge Glabrio?" Now exhausted, Glabrio then wandered back down to a hammock to rest until the night was over.

I tie one end of a rope to my waist and the other to the mast. I jump out of the boat and grab the struggling man by the ankle. I drag him back to me and knock him unconscious. I then yell "MAN! OVERBOARD!" and begin dragging myself closer to the boat.

Nero adjusted the armour he bought from am merchant on the docks, it was lower quality to what he was used to, but at least it was comfortable. He lifted the shield that he got and tested the weight, still too heavy, but heavy is good, it's reliable. He then placed his hand on his gladius, glad he never goes anywhere without it given the situation.
He practised the routine he had practised his entire life. Block, thrust, reverse. Block, thrust, reverse. Though he knew that any battles he encountered would be like none ever before, there will be no discipline between these men, no man to watch his either side.
Hearing the shouting from the bow, Nero sighed as he head out from the lower decks to the bow to investigate.

Travian Ran towards the screaming, unsheathing his bow and notching an arrow into his bowstring, ready to pull it back "what happended? are we under attack?"
