Well ladies and gentlemen, it is official: girls have officially ruined comics for me.

And not in the "I have a girlfriend now and have no more time for comics" way, which would be fine, but in another way.

You see, dear Escapists, in my group of eight friends, half of our number happen to be of the feminine persuasion. All of us also happen to be major geeks, and all of us (save for two of the group) are into comics.

Now these girls, they get into them and immediately start doing what anime fangirls are wont to do: they start shipping characters in yaoi pairings, and then immediately latch on to said pairing as "canon", refusing any and all attempts to make them stop. Nowadays, I can't even talk about anything with the other guys without them chiming in with "OMG BRUCE/CLARK (that's Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent, aka Batman and Superman) IS SO (insert fangirl rant here)"

So aside from sapping my ability to enjoy reading comics, it got me wondering if anyone else has had something ruined for them in a similar manner. Stories?

Guh, harsh... That really shouldn't ruin your ability to enjoy comics though. Just ignore their ravings and enjoy the comics on your own; if you can't you probably didn't like them all that much in the first place.

I avoid most social interactions in real life, so I don't have to deal with this.

But I have heard of a lot of it online, so you have my condolences.

The point is that I'd rather not have to deal with it. See comics used to be sacred to me: its something sufficiently nerds that it wouldn't be out of place as a discussion topic when I'm hanging around with my friends, but at the same time, it was something that was exclusive to us guys.

And now that sacred bond is gone forever.

Oh, I see. You no longer have the ability to discuss anything comic related without hearing random fangirl ravings? That truly does suck.

I guess you could tell 'em to stop doing that lest you bannish them from the circle, but that may be a tad harsh... You could just try calmly asking them to stop when you want to seriously discuss things I guess.

Ugh, That sounds rough man...

Really, My friends are are all Anti-Geeks, with me being the only Geek, so really, my only problem is my friends randomly starting to make out with one another while were hanging out.

Yeah, it's annoying...

"Hey Dave what do you think about-"

"Hang on, I'm trying to bury my tongue in my GF's throat."

Also, Nice Avatar, I remember that comic... Woudn't happen to have a link would you?

well the manga my friend reads is all stuff I've never heard of so it can't really bother me, and she rarely talks about manga, or comics.

Coming from a gay guy . . . Bruce and Clark Kent? *Shakes head* Are you sure these girls read comics?

They do. It's apparently what anime/yaoi fangirls do. It's their "thing".

I should be happy that I never had any crazy friends like that. They live in a completely different world than I do. Then again, I could say that about pretty much everyone I meet.

Well, the anime School Days kind of ruined dating for me. Oh! But one that really takes the cake is when I got the twist in the movie Oldboy ruined for me in a very uncommon way.

I saw a watered-down East Indian remake of it. But instead, the main character didn't have sex with his daughter, he just sold her into prostitution. Not nearly as shocking.

That's hilarious man. I have friends that do that as well. All I can say is just don't let it get to you. I don't.

Perhaps you could get said friends to not talk about their fandoms around you?

They do that too -___- I just. Can't. Catch. A freaking. Break.

The favorite so far is Batgirl (Stephanie Brown) and Oracle (Barbara Gordon)

It's hilarious. I love talking to chicks who are in yaoi, it's funny as hell.

I can't stop laughing at some combinations I heard about myself.

Hulk/Buttman squeeeeee...

Just kidding.

my group isn't really nerdy enough to read comic books. nor are the females nerdy enough to make yaoi or whatever. one of them is a pokemon fan and thats all they now about anime.

but ya see first sentence for my advice.
