And THAT is why I try to avoid being friends with yaoi fangirls. I have only a single friend who is one but she is as close to sane as a yaoi fangirl can get.

Basically the only thing you can do is NEVER introduce them to one of your beloved series if they've never heard of it or they will destroy it.
The sad thing is, this isn't even my fault. One of my other friends introduced them to comics when he made them read Identity Crisis and Blackest Night. I'm just an innocent bystander.

Coming from a gay guy . . . Bruce and Clark Kent? *Shakes head* Are you sure these girls read comics?
They do. It's apparently what anime/yaoi fangirls do. It's their "thing".
I am glad my sister stopped reading Manga now lol.

Personally I have to question why the girls you speak of are capable of both the lunacy of the fangirl rantings without rest whenever it comes up regardless of your wishes to not hear about it and still manage to remain your friends in any way. If it were me, I probably would never have wanted to be around them in the first place and if I did I wouldn't have any problems very overtly stating my growing resentment towards their actions.

But anyway;
They have the right to their own ideas and things like that so what they're doing isn't wrong, but if they continue forcing it on you and others; that is. Them acting like their pairings are canon as you described it (also sad since so many people seem to do that) also seems very stupid as well.

I'm a sad loser with only one group of friends, lol. Plus, I play Dungeons and Dragons with them every other Sunday. They're okay people, its just the yaoi fangirl-ish behaviours that bug me.

Damn, I have a friend who ruined the internet for me. Always spouting memes and acronyms in real life, makes me want to stab him with a spork. Probably not as bad as yours, but hey, it's annoying as fuck.

As for people who railroad conversation, I have an acquaintance (friend of a friend, really) who does that like it's her job.

Meh. I got over the tendency of anime fangirls to create yaoi/slash pairings pretty much at the same time I discovered they have a tendency to do so.

Only people who can ruin (Marvel) comics for me is Marvel themselves. Closest to them doing that was Ultimate Marvel universe. Some nicer costumes, but thats it,

And let us not forget the travesty that is "One More Day". And 'Sins Past". And "Ultimatum". Hell, let's just say "Joe Quesada", and get it done with while we're still young.

Well ladies and gentlemen, it is official: girls have officially ruined comics for me.

And not in the "I have a girlfriend now and have no more time for comics" way, which would be fine, but in another way.

You see, dear Escapists, in my group of eight friends, half of our number happen to be of the feminine persuasion. All of us also happen to be major geeks, and all of us (save for two of the group) are into comics.

Now these girls, they get into them and immediately start doing what anime fangirls are wont to do: they start shipping characters in yaoi pairings, and then immediately latch on to said pairing as "canon", refusing any and all attempts to make them stop. Nowadays, I can't even talk about anything with the other guys without them chiming in with "OMG BRUCE/CLARK (that's Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent, aka Batman and Superman) IS SO (insert fangirl rant here)"

So aside from sapping my ability to enjoy reading comics, it got me wondering if anyone else has had something ruined for them in a similar manner. Stories?
It's not my fault, I swear. I totally didn't show them this:

Or this....

Nor did I show them this...

Hahaha

As a gay guy I find fangirl slash pairings to be hilarious xD
But very annoying at times also.

If the yaoi fangirls must feed the obssession with pairing otherwise heterosexual-asexual characters together...let them at least do it in the anime/manga category lol (though that tends to get annoying for manga/anime fanboys also...to the point of insanity).

And of course there are real, canon guy x guy couples in yaoi manga... but fangirls I've noticed can't rest until they've done something interesting with two macho guys from an action series our whatever lol

But how they enjoy something isn't our business, so don't sweat it.

My suggestion, build a bridge and get over it.

Have you ever been online, that sort of thing has been going on in comics for years. If the way someone else enjoys something you like stops you from enjoying it, sounds more like you with the problem then them. No matter how annoying they may be.

Just learn to tune out things that keep you from enjoying whatever it is you're doing at that moment. A few friends of mine were kind enough to provide me with practice in that matter by immediately switching the main flow of the conversation to gay porn and giant wangs whenever I'd start eating a hot dog. Sure enough, I quickly tuned out their meaningless prattling and all was well.

You should see what they do on deviantart
It's actually worse if they do those 'pairings' with someone else's original character (or OC so they call it..)
