Well, it ain't gonna sell in America at all if it doesn't have Americans in it.

[sub]What's with that? You don't hear me requesting an Irishman in every game or I won't buy it.[/sub]
Yeah but Ireland aren't the world police, remember...

10 kill streak: press 6 to call in an agent orange strike
Have it kill them 5 years later and deform their children? Agent orange wasn't anti personnel, it was a defoliating agent, it just caused cancer in everyone that touched it. So it wouldn't be a very effective kill streak.

Well good for them, this should be interesting... but I can't imagine much weapon variety... Just m16, m14, m1garand and carbine, a few sniper rifles, and a few lmg's....Boring.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weapons_of_the_Vietnam_War#Infantry_support_weapons here is basically the weapons and killstreak list if they do make it...basically...Ac130, c130, artillery etc.

What about the other "agents", like purple?

defoliater, i suppose in heavily planted maps it would be useful to rid hiding spots. but it took a period of days to come into effect. But that's still really really fast. It caused a lot of ecological damage mostly and the deformities in hundreds of thousands of children.

I'll be happy if they can actually make a decent Vietnam game. Oh wait it's Treyarch.

They include a sequence to either: break out of a POW camp, or break prisoners out of a POW camp, then they can expect even more sales. For one the POW/MIA guys will love that, and plus, breaking out of POW camps hasnt really been done to effect yet in a game. Closest so far I suppose is Wolfenstein 3D, Return to Castle Wolfenstein(which basically replays the same scene with better graphics), and Escape from Butcher Bay(though that sequence wouldn't play that well in Vietnam).

Finally. A fun war to play around in.

Lets hope that Treyarch pay the same reverence to the Vietnam war that they paid to World War Two in the last Call of Duty they developed; a game solely remembered for a mode called Nazi Zombies.

sigh.

Hardly Schindler's bloody List, is it?

I really hope its set in Vietnam. I had a discussion about this subject this morning with my friends, and they all think that it'll never happen because the States lost that conflict. But I really hope they make it.

How about just some freakin napalm.

With a 25 kill streak of "broken arrow" - instead of a nuke - where dozens of planes just come and strafe everyone, bomb everything, and scorch the place with napalm, ending the round. That'd be bad ass.

Yes, because it's completely unreasonable for a California-based developer made largely of Americans to make a game about Americans...?
this sir truly proves your name.

OT this will be awesome. And its something different from WW2. Id like to see the korean war because that would be pretty dam scary yet fun.

I love the M1garand. From MoH rising sun that was my fav gun and i wish more games had it. Also no red dot sight scopes this time. But i hope for a machete to hack n slash.

"The DSM" said nothing about who is making it.

It is unreasonable that the same shit (US vs {Germans, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Arabs}) is done to death - both by American studios and non-American studios - when there are so many fresh scenarios to pick from. It can't be a question of lacking suitably well-known conflicts, since e.g. the reverse versions of those scenarios would naturally share the same name recognition.

In a nutshell: when a pile of games with an "Americans vs Germans" or "Americans vs Vietcong" scenario exist already, the chances are pretty close to nil that one more such game will end up more compelling than a "Germans vs the French" or "Vietcong vs Americans" game would. Such a change is not only a skin swap, but would also provide easy fresh content (famous battles, ...) and also help inspire a shakeup of mechanics suitable to the new scenario.

Why is it that the bulk of American gamers put so much weight on playing an American protagonist, and are almost dead set on playing an English speaking protagonist? And why are they so dead set against seeing Americans as antagonists?

I simply do not understand those preferences, even after substituting my own nationality and language (neither of which I have ever seen in a game so far). It seems so silly - obsessing over having this label or that label in game just because you have that label IRL, even though there is absolutely no logical connection between the game world of bits and the real one, and paying for these obsessions by forgoing better game mechanics and fresh content.

We see the same market standards across genres, so it's not just military FPS. Masses of non-American studios develop games that have American protagonists and American cultural references, often set in America. How many games emerge from American devs with an European, Japanese, Australian protagonist? How many are set in Europe?
